The amulet was such a deux ex machina it was ridiculous.

About the ex-machina necklace, I noticed something:

In The Harsh Light of Day Spike puts on the necklace (with the Gem of Amara) and Harmony says:

“So is it doing it? Do you feel it. I mean, you don't look different, if you were wondering. I thought maybe you'd look taller or glow or something.”

In the end, he wore a necklace and glowed.

Well, he did cut Connor's throat, so technically he killed him. That really had to have some impact even though he gave him a new life...which meant Connor was functionally dead to Angel. That should have shown in some ways.

Crap, I hadn't remembered that at all! I watched the season five opener right after I'd finished season 4 two years ago so yeah...wow. Connor wasn't dead to Angel though, this showed in his answer to Cordy in 'You're Welcome'. He could have told her that Connor was dead but instead told her that he'd given him a new life.

Or Buffy, or Faith, or any of the potentials once they were turned into slayers.

In addition, Cordelia (half-demon, if she hadn't been put in a coma), Oz, Nina (werewolves), Lorne (demon), perhaps even Willow (witch) also fit the profile.

Yeah, I worded that wrong. I meant dead to him in the sense that he can never be his father, never talk to him, never be with him - which is kinda like Connor died. I meant the huge emotional cost. In essence he killed Connor twice - slitting his throat and then giving him a new life which meant that he could never be with Connor again. It's sorta like killing in two steps. It's because I respect that pain that I really find peppy Angel sniffing at Buffy to be kinda bizarre.

In addition, Cordelia (half-demon, if she hadn't been put in a coma), Oz, Nina (werewolves), Lorne (demon), perhaps even Willow (witch) also fit the profile.

Let's just say that Giles, Xander, Gunn and Fred couldn't have worn it 😀

Wow! Good eyes! Now that is a fanfic waiting to be written. I would assume that Spike looted and sold off the rest of the items and W&H bought the through a middle man.

Gotcha, I see what you mean though technically feeling like Connor never happened to Angel would be a more accurate evaluation than that he was dead to him in any sense.

From my perspective he wasn't at all peppy at that Buffy visit, he was clearly not himself at all, but very stone. It was written all in his voice, in the cold, even somewhat Angelus like edge to it that he was emotionally crippled. The loss of both Connor and Cordy was there and I believe kissing Buffy was his attempt to distract himself from all that pain, it felt to me like he was forcing it on himself and then he didn't put up an argument when she asked him to leave. At that point Angel clearly resented Buffy for poor taste when she told him she was with Spike as well as Spike for gaining a life while he'd been losing his and for insulting the whole soul deal.
Basically, I think he was looking for a band-aid with Buffy but ended up getting salt in his wounds instead.

Lol why take the Angel visit and how it went so seriously? It was just the obligatory S7 OOC-ness at work that had befallen most characters (Buffy, Willow, Giles, Faith...I'm looking at you).

Buffy drops the scythe to the floor and walks up to Angel, pressing herself against his body and kisses him deeply on the lips.
He just seemed pretty carefree to me.

Right, what I was saying is that rather than Connor feeling dead to him, I believe he was more feeling the pain of a parent who'd given their baby up for adoption. Giving a child away to someone you don't know is just as painful, maybe even more so than burying a child who passed away. To know they are out there alive but never knowing if they're alright, never knowing what kind of person they are, and worst of all they have no idea who their birth parents are, how their birth parents felt about them when they were born, in the birth mother's case when she carried them.
Even when Connor was in Angel's life he never really knew how much Angel loved him. That's got to be what was eating away at him most.

It bugged the hell out of me that he kissed her and was jealous that Spike had her heart when he'd fallen for Cordy pretty hard and she'd just barely been in a coma for a few weeks, he had then JUST stopped Connor from blowing her up. But whatever.

It really was a big mess. Not only does Angel somehow have the gull to kiss Buffy and be jealous of her and Spike when he'd spent three years deeply in love with Cordy and it's had been less than a month since she'd fallen into her coma but at the same time Buffy claims she thinks about them getting back together then turns around and says that Spike is the one she loves and asks Angel to leave.
To be honest, I can see on Angel's end it being more resentment of Spike having a sort of silver spoon in his mouth (not only did he have Buffy but he got a soul without having to suffer much for it) while he was having the two people he loved the most taken from him (Connor and Cordy), but that doesn't make it valid.

It was literally nothing but one contradiction after the other.

Spuffy. I liked the idea of it (Spike changing and becoming better because of love for a good person) in S5 but the horriblness of S6 put an end to that- now I don't like it at all.
Spike with a soul. I was so excited by that ending in S6 the first time I saw it but the later execution left me puzzled the first time I watched, and then more and more annoyed/angry the more times I see S7.

Guns. Guns are supposed to be ineffective and yet Wesley uses them to good effect and Warren comes very close to killing Buffy with one. Which begs the question, why don't all the vamps just start packing heat when they know that they're near the Hellmouth, which is the slayer's stomping ground?

Giles 'pretending' to be the First and then the twist that it turns out that he actually isn't. It's vaguely funny the first time but this gets more irritating the more I watch it develop because Giles is being a cold bastard for no real reason (see the first episode he shows up in Sunnydale).

Buffy. The more I think about it the more it's clear that Buffy peaked in S5 and is now just not was she was. I doubt she'll ever get back there. Likeable, brave, kickass and heroic but very flawed and relatable.
Now she's probably one of the worst characters in her own damn comic.
