Read this article and watched video about SMG's very well-known hyped up movie "Southland Tales". I was wondering myself when this movie would be released. If you want to know about what's going on with it, check out the link. Learn about the flop at Cannes and how it might actually be good and a shame if it's never released.

having problems withthe video!

PLEASE somebody explain whats going on! It might not be released! What the fudge!!!!!

Donnie Darko is one of my favourite films of all time. I have much time for Richard Kelly. Plus Sarah michelle Gellar has proved her acting ability more than once! Plus shes a porn star!(In the film) This film cant not be seen!

Please put my worries to rest...

well lets just hope that with all the time they're taking, hopefully it will be a real good movie!

I was not a fan of Donnie Darko, I just didn't get it. But it was far from a bad movie, It just didn't appeal to me. I think it's a terrible mistake not to release the film, with all the huge name stars in it, that will bring in people. The fact that it's made by the guy that made DD will also bring loads of people who loved that, to the cinema too see this!

I wanna see this film, it looks infesting!

I thought I'd read that Richard Kelly was gonna make some drastic edits to 'Tales' after Cannes"”to make it more comprehensible, or shorter, something...

From Comic-Con:

What is the release date?

Richard Kelly: Sony is still trying to decide on that. But we will know soon.

What inspires you?

Richard Kelly: Did someone say drugs? i think I'm mentally ill. A psychopath. It all comes from my fears and anxiety. I just need to express myself. I put my thoughts into a word processor and then my friends help me out.

You do know that when you're on your death bed some kid will be asking you to sign his Frank figure?

Richard Kelly: Hey, I'll sign it. If I can get someone to lift my hand. But I hope that's a long way off. Unless you're planing on killing me?

I left all my guns at the house.

Richard Kelly: Good.

Can you tell me about the different version that was shown at Cannes?

Richard Kelly: What we showed at Cannes was a work in progress. We ran out of time and money. And we are working to get it right at this moment in time. I think the graphic novels will help the audience understand the story better. And we're excited about showing it to you guys.

I'm all for them releasing the thing for two very specific reasons:

1) So that the ones of us who want to see it can see the damn thing, and

2) So that the ones of us who are sick and tired of hearing about it can get a little relief.

Personally, I plan on seeing it if and when it's finally released. I like both Sarah and the Rock and thing that they would make an interesting combination. Plus, HIGHLANDER: THE SOURCE has already been released, so SOUTHLAND TALES can't possibly rate any lower than second worst movie of the Twenty First Century. (Plus, the more dogs Sarah stars in, the greater the chances that she'll come back to the role we all love her the most in: Spike's girlfriend.

yeah i was about to say, it WAS released. At least, i think there were theaters here in NYC playing it during its limited release, and if im right, i saw a review on t.v. (And it was a bad one).

I just saw the film on a cinema copy DVD my friend found across the border in Malaysia. How a cinema copy of this elusive film got there is a mystery. He just had to buy it despite the fact that it was not clear. He's a fan of the Rock. I had a hard time understanding what was going on maybe because the sound was not too good. For now I would say that I am not a fan of this film. The actors were great and if I'm not mistaken the music is by Moby, the credits were blurry. SMG was hardly on screen, and most of her scenes seemed cryptic to me. She looked great though, as always.

I was in the Video Shop today and saw this, I didn't even know it was out yet!

I gotta say I LOVED it, it was absolutely brilliant, It's seriously funny I was laughing loads during it. SMG especially was hilarious in it.

Anyone else seen it? If you haven't I recommend it, and if you think you wont like it cuz you didn't like Donnie Darko; I hated DD, it was an awful, boring, stupid waste of time, but this was cool!

I didn't understand the ending though?

I've got the dvd of it, i've only seen like half of it though, it was weird and boring so i stopped watching

I loved it and found it incredibly simple to understand.

First of all, Dwayne was supposed to be Arnold Schwarzenegger (action star heavily tied to CA's Republican party, "played the role" of "Jericho Cane" in a film about the end of the world [End of Days, in reality]). Knowing that helps understand what Dick Kelly (writer, director) is going on about. Beyond that, it was a sci-fi yarn about the events that bring forth the Christian rapture. Boxer Santeros' Jesus tattoo bleeding was expressing that the Roland / Ronald Taverner handshake was the formation of the new Messiah- whatever it is that Roland Taverner x2 equals. If you want to read into plot specifics, like Fluid Karma or ****ing cars you can, but you have to remember that it's all from the mind of a war scarred super-junkie. That's the basic core of it- and that Republicans are awful, or something.

Alot of people are so wrapped up in Donnie Darko that Southland Tales just doesn't compute to them, but if you simply accept everything you're told and approach it like you would a comic book it's very comprehendable and enjoyable.

I just watched this movie today.

Worst.
Movie.
Ever.

Basically because it didn't make any freakin sense at all. Not even SMG could redeem this movie (Sometimes the crappy movies I can bear watching because she's in them), but not this one.

They could've made the movie a whole lot shorter and easier to understand if they had stopped at Boxer's screenplay (when he was pitching it). That was the rest of the movie.

I LOVED it.... nowhere near as good as Donnie Darko tho, i think it'll get better with more viewings like Donnie Darko though.

I've heard that it's really terrible, which sucks because Donnie Darko is my favourite movie of all time.

I'm saying that the general consensus that it's bad is disappointing, because I really wanted it to be good.

But then, Donnie Darko was pretty much universally panned.
