Spike This Season: Cute or Annoying?

lol. I Americanised myself for that last post. We don't actually use 'period' as a punctuation mark. We call it a 'full stop'. Anyway...So, correcting myself:

I love Spike. Full stop. 😀

Annoying, but that is part of what makes him cute. I loved his interactions with Angel throughout the series.

Spike is the fly in Angel's ointment, the ghost in his evil law firm machine...the butter on his biscuit?

Spike speaks his mind and doesn't apologize for it. He is both sides of the male persona that we as men try and inhibit. He has the feminine side which accounts for his intuition and cat like grace. He also has a masculine side which explains everything else. In the last few decades most guys have tried to throw themselves into a happy yet boring medium where they are never soft=vulnerable; but also never strong=capable.

Spike is both Caveman and Astronaut, and if it wasn't for the fact that I am deeply in love with the female persuasion; I'd take him on.

So in closing; he is cute when he's annoying, but awesome when he's a sex-bomb.
 
Spike's long-term introduction in to Angel's world was the same for when Angel got his own show: once he was away from the one he loved he became a newer person, one who ended up doing things on his own and growing much more than before.

I adore Spike. He's probably one of my favorite things about both shows. And I love when he's brought in as a member of Angel. As someone else said, we get the chance to see what having a soul is really like for a vampire, in the very early stages when it's still all new, the ups and downs, the choices. He really didn't have much chance to grow beyond the beginnings of the torture of it all in Buffy, season 7, because he spent the time being crazy, and being used by others around him--not to mention finding his footing with his new soul, and just where he stood in Buffy's life. In Angel, he was finally able to branch out a bit.

I loved the dynamic between him and Angel. They teased and annoyed each other in a way that just seemed so natural to me. He was in a place where he didn't exactly belong, and wasn't exactly wanted at first, but his presence there did do season 5 a great justice, I think just for that contrast between Spike and Angel.
 
There are huuuuuge problems with Spike in this season, and they bug the hell out of me. But, to be honest, they only come to light when you think about it afterwards. I'm perfectly happy to sit back and enjoy the bickering. It might make no sense most of the time, but it's fun!

Just curious what these huge problems were? I must have been to happy to see Spangel to really notice 🙂

It just seemed like they ported him straight from Season 5 and ignored everything that had happened since then. I get that there were practical reasons, but it was clumsily handled. Spike had grown into so much more than comic relief on Buffy, but it really felt like they just wanted him to be Cordelia with a British accent.

That said, as the season went on and they developed AtS specific storylines the problems lessened somewhat, but I never really felt like Season 5 belonged in the place it occurred. To come off the back of the epicness of Chosen and the utter depression-fest of Angel Season 4, light comic banter just felt untrue to the characters.

Still, it was often wickedly funny, so I can forgive a lot of these flaws. I'd probably be more forgiving if it wasn't the very last season of the 'verse we got (at least for a long, long time). But they weren't really to know that.

Spike being added to the cast of Angel was awesome. I didn't find him annoying in the least, he was himself - the same as he ever was, and I felt he rounded off the cast quite nicely.
 
when spike saw angel as a puppet......that was epic😀

bud spike, with or without his soul....he didn't change much.......even with a sole spike was more or less the old spike we knew before he was a sole-guy in S7 of buffy.....
 
Spike was excellent this season; the best incarnation of the character since, arguably, his first season on Buffy. We see all of his dimensions thoroughly explored: His badass warrior skills, his personal insecurities and deficits, his tenacious, rebellious, hostile attitude, his capacity for love and affection, and his extraordinary chemistry with Angel.

Those two just really brought out the best and worst in each other and it made this season the best in both shows.
 
Spike was annoying as hell in season 5! the worst scene ever was when he saw Angel as a puppet in Smile Time, 'you're a bloody puppet!' ugh, I hate it so much.
 
I thought it was absolutely wonderful. They really get a lot out of being around each other: the Grand-Sire and the Grand-Sired. I think it's good for them, now both en-soulled, to be together and together look back at what they'd both done pre-soul, back in the Fanged-Four days. Plus, Angel is just so damned serious all the time and really needs Spike to bring him some life (which Spike is full of). I don't know... i just really like their interactions. I mean, these two, even though much of if was soulless, go back so far, and i love what that brought to the show. Plus, I really liked Spike's interactions with Illyria and totally cracked up when she said she'd like to keep him as her pet (wouldn't we all)... I like how we can really see here the difference in how they both approach their souls and the memories of what they have done in the past...Spike works as a brilliant foil for Angel here (but not merely that, of course).
 
I'm on board with pretty much everyone else here.

Spike is awesome. Angel is awesome.

Angel+Spike= So much awesome my brain explodes.

Also, I really love the Cavemen vs. Astronauts. Of course Spike would vote the Cavemen. Love that guy.

Edited to add that if he hadn't joined the cast in season 5 we would never have gotten that "Except that one time" comment. Horrors!

So yeah, I don't find him annoying. And I often think he is cute. Truth.
