Spike's Back. Big Deal

Spike is not only back, but Buffy has known about it, maybe not from Day One, but she HAS known.

You don't have to ship Spuffy to answer this, but don't you feel just a little robbed about this? I mean, Buffy and Giles' reunion was accompanied with tears and hugs, Buffy reunites with Angel with...huge reunion, and all that Spike gets is, "Yeah, I knew that you were back, but I was just SO BUSY running my Slayer army, that I just couldn't be bothered to visit or even call the guy who played such a major role in helping me fight the First Evil."

After all of the accusations toward Spike of, "He cared so much about her, and he couldn't even call?"

The least that she could have done was hug the guy, she didn't have to tear his clothes off. Just a little gratitude wouldn't have hurt.

I agree. I DO feel robbed. I wanted her to not know he was alive (well, as alive as an undead creature of the night can be 😛) and be totally surprised (and ecstatic) to see him.

Even a punch in the nose would have been something. Let's face it, the guy's got the cards stacked against him. No matter how she REALLY feels, Buffy had made her commitment (did I hear somebody out there say that she would HAVE TO BE committed if she choose Ol' Broody over Spike? I could have sworn...) and it looks like the race has been run and Beetle Bomb (Private joke between me and the late great Spike Lee) is going home with the cup. I can accept that, if not agree with it. Besides, Faith's still unattached and as hot as ever...

The point is, Spike DIED FOR HER, and just as an afterthought, managed to be instrumental in closing the hellmouth and defeating the First Evil's army. A pat on the shoulder, maybe even a peck on the cheek, and a sincere "I'm really glad we didn't actually lose you...William" doesn't seem out of the question here. I'm talking gratitude folks, not declarations of undying passion. Maybe Mayor Wilkins was wrong after all. It's not only the end of the world, it's also the end of courtesy.

I could certain see how people are dissappointed, and I am a little bit as well and I'm not a Spuffy shipper either. I think Spike's arrival has had a great impact though, he's at least trying to get Buffy back on track. He's not sugarcoating anything which I thiink is what the story greatly needed. The lack of gratitude is not great but at least Spike is a refreshing change that season 8 needed. 😛

Spike and Buffy have been immature idiots ever since S6, so why are we surprised again? Being around Buffy seems to make Spike dumber and vice versa. Same old, same old, I would say. 😀

This is why I don't waste my money on the comics anymore, I follow what is going on through the forum here, but it's horrible to think that this is all he got. I always shipped spuffy over bangel but if this is what spuffy is now then it's just to much.

I feel robbed that Buffy wouldn't even get in contact to say thankyou. Maybe she was hurt that he didn't get in contact with her. Afterall Spike was always the one chasing her, maybe she didn't like that.

I know my ship (spangel) is never going to happen, so maybe I'll have to start shipping spaith. I really feel like Spike deserves to be happy, and I just can't see that happening with Buffy anymore.

Although I am a bit disappointed with how the reunion initially played out, I kind of understand why Buffy wouldn't be all hugs and kisses toward Spike, or even thankful for saving them in the Hellmouth, when she first saw him. First, Spike shows up at a time when her mind really isn't in the right place. I mean she thinks the best day of her life is when she put the universe in jeopardy. Second, at least for me, Spuffy has always been about the progression. In other words, while Buffy may not say immediately how thankful she is for what Spike did, I don't think that means she won't ever say it. Like in "Intervention," she almost left Spike's crypt without saying "thanks" for not giving up her and Dawn to Glory. When she says things that are really meaningful (i.e. "I love you"), it usually has to be on her own time. So, when she gets out of this Twilight daze, here's hoping she's thinking a bit more clearly 🙂

Omg im only on issue #34 and ive been dying to hear buffy mention spike. Im totally a bangel shipper but i second spuffy, i like her with spike if not with angel. Anyway plzz can someone tell me exactly wat happens when they meet up and what issue it is. I am dissapointed it took so long. I woundered when in season 5 of angel wen andrew discovered spike was alive why buffy wasnt going to him then. I mean at the end of chosen they shared such a special moment. It saddens me how they just forgot about spuffy once buffy was off air.

So, does anyone not put any emphasis on Buffy's fantasies? Yeah, I was disappointed when I turned the page and realized that's all they were, but I think they were pretty significant. And like someone else said, Spike was always Buffy's truth-teller, & he continues in that role here. And to turn the tables, Spike could've contacted Buffy. He explains his reasons in ATS season 5.

In the NYCC Scott Allie interview, he states that they just didn't have enough time to devote to a more thorough Spuffy reunion. Well, make the time dammit! You've only had a few yrs now! With Spike getting his own comics in season 9, let's hope it goes into more detail.

Although I do like the way Spike has arrived on the scene, and we're not sure yet whether he's the hero or if he has something up his sleeve or what.

My comparison of Buffy/Giles reunion to Buffy/Spike was only to point out that Buffy and Giles HAD one, not particularly the content. Buffy at least gave some indication that she was glad to see Giles, and happy that he was there. With Spike, it's, "Thanks for this, sorry about that, what're you doin' here?"

I was expecting, if not daring to hope for more for a: BAM! (Spike goes flying across the room clutching a damaged nose) "THAT'S fro telling me that I didn't love you. Now, what're you doing here, where did you get this yellow submarine, what do you know about what's going on, sorry I didn't call, but I was just too busy, and where's the bathroom? I need a shower." THAT would be a proper Spuffy reunion.

As I said before, I wasn't looking for Buffy to tear Spike's clothes off right there on the spot. We've just been subjected to the Bangel version of "Smashed," and I don't expect Buffy to jump, even figuratively, out of Angel's bed and into Spike's. But just a little hint that she was glad to see the guy after so long wouldn't have broken her jaw.

I haven't seen #37 yet, but from the things that I have read, I get the impression that things become a bit more personal, if not intimate, and I can pretty much live with that, just as long as they do, in fact, have their few moments of reunion, and maybe a "So, what've you been up to since the hellmouth?" chat. Maybe it's just me, but I think that Buffy owes Spike at least that much. (It wouldn't break my heart if Giles were to at least acknowledge that he had judged Spike wrongly back in Sunnydale, but I guess that's just asking too much in the way of courtesy from ol' Ripper)

Yeah, perhaps the most frustrating thing about Season 8 - beyond the moronic creative choices, gaping plot holes and character assassinations - is the missed opportunity for some truly great Buffy-verse moments.

Buffy and Spike reuniting again for the first time is something fans had waited the best part of a decade to see. And it was fubbed over with a couple of lame lines in a few panels.

So, WA, you haven't read 37 yet? You definitely need to. I'm not sure it will change your opinion, but it is good Spuffy interaction. I do agree, though, that we needed more, we deserved more (not necessarily more in quantity, but quality). They're together at the end of 37 though, so I'm looking forward to the next issue to see what happens.

I'm comforted by the fact that it's Joss. Joss is writing Buffy (mostly) so there is a good reason for each and every plot and turn that he's writing. Gotta trust him, I guess. I know it's hard, even to myself.

Aww, poor WA. Do you not have a local resource? When I went looking for it, I was so surprised how many comic book stores are in my mid-size city!

The local Barnes and Nobel gets in about 3 copies of each issue, and they're gone almost immediately. Beyond that, there's nowhere else within 20 miles of here that sells comic books. It's either get them over the internet plan monthly pilgrimages to Stone Mountain.

I'm not disappointed (ok maybe I am 🙁 but pushing it waaay down and moving on) because this is totally a Joss thing to do. You know the word, we've all been JOSSED!!

I'm a huge Spuffy fan and though I love the couple together, I kinda like them apart doing their own thing. Plus I like the IDW thing they have with Spike.

And at the end, we all know it's Spike who will be at her side fighting the fight for puppies, kittens and Christmas.
