March 15 is the beginning of Daylight Savings Time in the United States, a plan designed originally to create the illusion of an extra hour of daylight, thus allowing farmers that extra time to work their fields. The idea was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin, who got the idea from watching an old Indian cut a foot off of one end of his blanket and sew it onto the other end in order to get a longer blanket.

So, my question is primarily for US residents, but anyone else is free to chime in as well. The question is, do you really think that Daylight Savings Time actually has any positive affect on our (mostly non-agricultural) society?

Personally, I can see no use it it whatsoever. It never saved any energy at all where I either worked or lived, because our energy consumption never changed in either place.

I don't believe so. 🙂

It has an effect on how much sleep I get, though!! 🙁

I hate it. It means I get less sleep tonight. On the other hand, it's good when we "fall back." Then I get more!

As for the purpose though, I can't honestly say I see the point.

I don't see the point in it either, when you get adjusted you have to switch back. It takes me awhile to get adjusted, lol.

I hate Spring Forward. 🙁 It makes me lose an hour of sleep, which is never a good thing. But since my family farms, I understand why it's a good thing. 😛

LOL I almost forgot about that! Yeah we do lose an hour of sleep and that equals being more tired 🙁 Anyway, at least nightfall won't come so soon...as it used to in winter!🙂

We don't change the clock for another two weeks and although it sucks losing an hour of sleep I'm all for it. I really don't need the sun to come up as early as it will in the summer as it is and without this it would be an hour earlier. No thanks.

I find the whole thing extremely annoying and totally pointless.
Just don't get it all.

It's one of my biggest annoyances actually. I will continue to bitch about it twice every year until something is done. 🙂

/SK

Another two weeks here before daylight savings start. I think it's pretty much nonsense as to its original intention (conserving energy and all - yeah right, because a fricking lightbulb for one hour makes a helluva lot of difference while you have your PC/TV/radio/whathaveyou running 😛 ).

Still, I enjoy the faked-out later sunshine evenings. With my strange sleep cycle, the evening hours often enough are the only sushine I ever get to see; in winter, I often happen to go to sleep somewhere around dawn and get up after dusk. I am such a vampire! 😀

I don't see why everyone doesn't turn their clocks ahead 30 minutes one time and end the whole switching back and forth. Although that seems logical to me so clearly government couldn't come up with that idea.
