Spuffy #2 - General Discussion

Did you like Spike right from the start?

Yup. 🙂 In fact, one of my all time favorite moments is when Spike first appeared- Now THAT was cool. 😀
What were the landmark episodes and why?

School Hard- Where it all began. 😀

What were your favourite Buffy-Spike moments from season two?

The first time that they met (or rather looked at each other), and when they worked together in Becoming pt. 2. "Hello Cutie" was amazing as well. 😀

Any things that foreshadow what was to come?

I still think that the fire that was seen between them from the very beginning made it obvious that SOMETHING was going to happen between them... And Becoming pt. 2 definitely showed how well they work together.

Anything else S&B season two-related that you want to mention...

I just love S2 Spuffy. 🙂 It must be one of my favorite spuffy seasons, especially since I love Spike the most in S2. 😀 (And I've never been a Buffy fangirl (quite the opposite), so all villains are welcome. 😀 )

Did you like Spike right from the start? I always loved Spike, immediately made me laugh.

What were the landmark episodes and why? Not too sure, never that good at recalling the names of certain episodes.

What were your favourite Buffy-Spike moments from season two? Can't beat the scene where Spike goes to Buffy for help to win back Dru. The line "just let me kill this guy" is brillant :biggrin3:

Any things that foreshadow what was to come? I think there was definately signs in becoming part 2, in terms of the fire that was later replicated in their relationship. Wasn't too many scenes with just the 2 of them though.

Spike and Buffy in Season Two:

I will never forget the first time I saw School Hard; It was the day I decided I loved this show. I was intreagued by Spike's arrival, it seemed to signal big things - what with the car crashing into the Sunnydale sign and the pan from boot to head-shot. And of course, there's Buffy and Xander and Willow with their 'saying nothing bad is going to happen makes bad things happen' repartee too. Then we meet Spike properly - See him talk himself up in front of Colin 'the annointed one' and gang - He was at woodstock! He doesn't believe vampire crap about being at the crusifixion! - I liked this guy even though he was standard vampire-grade unattractive... until he shook off the vamp brow and did that head turning thing with Drusilla. Wow. I mean Wow. And it only got better. He stalked Buffy as she danced in such a delightfully predatory fashion and have you ever listened to the words of the song that plays as he does?

I did a stupid thing last night,
I called you.
A moment of weakness.
No, not a moment,
More like three months of weakness.

I'm one step away from crashing to my knees.
One step away from spilling my guts to you.

I did a stupid thing last night,
I called you.
I'm doing all right.
No, don't feel sorry for me,
Really, I'm all right.

I'm one step away from crashing to my knees.
One step away from spilling my guts to you.

You see, there's this huge chunk of me missing.
It's gone.
And I can' feel it, I can't feel it,
I can't feel.

I did a stupid thing last night,
I called you.
It's the last time,
And maybe tomorrow night, will be the last time...

Stupid Thing by Nickle

I mean, how cool is that?

And they talk. Right form the get go, even in the midst of a fight - Buffy and Spike talk. You can't shut the pair of them up. Finally this quipping and punning Slayer has found one that talks back. I mean - he's just so fun and so much more interesting that a 20 second dusting (or, can I add, a souled vampire who skulks about without saying anything).

So yeah - I think that School Hard is landmark. It is the beginning of everything. Other important Spike and Buffy eps from season two... What's My Line part 2 - purely for the "I'd rather be fighting you anyway" line and of course, as other have mentioned - Becoming part 2 is superb. I remember when I first saw it I was completely surprised by the twist of Spike going to Buffy with his "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" plan. But I loved it - it seemed such a Spike thing to do. It shows that Spike was a different from your average vampire way before he ever fell in love with Buffy. I loved how S & B seem to have a natural compatability - they are in sync when fighting, he (almost) faultlessly catches on to the cover story she concocts for Joyce. Shame he leaves her not careing that it looks like Angelus is going to kill her - but hey, he might be different but he's still an evil vampire....

My favourite Buffy and Spike moment from season two would have to be from Becoming (part 2) when they walk back to Buffy's house sizing each other up. It's priceless. I also love it when Spike stands up from his wheelchair at the end of I only have Eyes for You. Very cool.

I remember reading somewhere an interview with Joss that said that Spike and Dru had been 'running around' in his head for about ten years - almost as long as Buffy herself - it must have been so cool for him to see them come to fruition and, for find that Spike had so much more potential that just the red-herring villian.

Okay - Just to keep conversation pumping...

Topic of the Week: Let's talk Season 2 Spike and Buffy (pre-Spuffy Spuffy if you will)

Did you like Spike right from the start?

Yeah, I thought he was a great character - and I had some inkling that he was going to stick around for the rest of the series, but I didn't know how important he'd be. I didn't fully start to love Spike until season four.

What were the landmark episodes and why?

I love their first meeting in School Hard, the 'weapons make me feel all manly' fight - even from the beginning you can see something's there. And of course the truce scenes in Becoming pt. 2.

What were your favourite Buffy-Spike moments from season two?

The fight in School Hard; 'Hi honey, I'm home' in Halloween and all the scenes in Becoming.

Any things that foreshadow what was to come?

Hm, at the time I wasn't considering Spuffy - but when you rewatch the season knowing what's to come... you can see the connection between them from the beginning.

Also, not so much foreshadowing but showing that connection: Dru cuts Spike's cheek in the first scene with him in, leaving a streak of blood:

And then later in the episode, we see Buffy with the same thing (albeit paint, but it's for the imagery...)

Anything else S&B season two-related that you want to mention...

I have to admit, when reading season two fic it does require some suspension of belief, at this point in canon Buffy was crazy insane in love with Angel and so it takes a very skilled writer to turn that around. I have read some excellent early-season fic, but I definitely prefer stuff set in season four and beyond.

[Also - we still have drabble prompts on deck - 'Twilight', 'Fire' and 'Motorbike']

I've got something brewing in my head for motorbike... but I want to see some drabbles written by other people, lol.

I love the idea of the 'red stripes of destiny'
Did you like Spike right from the start?
Yes. I thought he was funny and I loved the combination of tough, reckless, and head over heels in love. It was a brilliant combination and you could tell right from the start that he was going to be more than just a typical bad guy.

What were the landmark episodes and why?
I liked his teaming up with buffy against Angel to save Dru and the world (McPeople, right?). In season 2 it has to be School Hard. 🙂

What were your favourite Buffy-Spike moments from season two?
When she kills the vampire in the Bronz parking lot and he comes out of the shadows. When Angel asks Buffy if she thinks she can take them all alone and Spike jumps in to help her.

Any things that foreshadow what was to come?
When he first sees her dancing. James played that perfectly.

love that scene where he comes out of the shadows applauding too
Watching some season 7 at the moment and you have to love the scenes in Never Leave me and Potential. "Buffy's i believe in you speech" and then in Potential i think for the first time you see Buffy showing her new found feelings for Spike. Her concern that she might have hurt him is also ironic considering what happened in seeing red. It shows those days of season 6 are long forgotten.

Season 7's strength is a lot down to Buffy and Spike and the countless fantastic scenes played out by Sarah and James. Some people didn't like the two of them dominating episodes like they did, i personally loved it. :smile3:

So... How did we all like Spike's return to season 8??

I liked the picture, but thought that his hands looked kinda girly. I quite liked the dialogue. The red shirt and black nail polish was more retro Spike but i've noticed that the comics use distinguishing features rather loosely so i'm not going to let it bother me too much. And I hate it that we've got such a long wait until the next issue!

Spike, Spike, Spike! I can't wait for the Spuffy reunion. *happy dance*

I knew he was showing up, though. Can't say I was surprised. I'm unsure about the spaceship, though...kinda lame. I hope Conner, Spider, and Illyria are with him.

I hope they stake Angel.

Yeah, I noticed the red shirt and nail-polish, too. Didn't he lose that shirt back in Season 6? And I haven't seen him wear nail-polish since Season 5.

I caved and read the comic, because someone on my LJ flist posted up some scans. It was... interesting, still not a fan and I still don't think those are the characters that we saw for seven seasons.

Pessimistic of me, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was glossed over or given very little depth/page time.

Yeah, I noticed the red shirt and nail-polish, too. Didn't he lose that shirt back in Season 6? And I haven't seen him wear nail-polish since Season 5.

I kinda hated that he was wearing the red shirt and his nails were (flawlessly!) painted. Not the Spike from the last part of the series, at all.

Anyway, I still dislike the comics and still don't think of them as canon. So whatever happens next doesn't really bother me. I'm just glad there's a three month reprieve before the next one!

Eh, I dunno... I'm also hoping that Spike has either Illyria or Spider (and Connor) with them. Since I feel so cut off from Buffy, a spuffy reunion would just seem a bit blah for me.. Mostly I'm concerned with the well-being of our characters. 🙂

Angel is just... :eek2:

Yeah, he pretty much stopped with that look, so it's a bit odd... As is the fact that he KNOWS what's going on...

I think that Showtime was when she first really started showing her feelings... Maybe even before that. 🙂

Just out of curiosity, guys... Is there anybody here besides me that isn't a fan of Spike? Anyone? 😀

I ♥ Spike. :D
How can you not like Spike? He is such a likeable character i just can't understand how you can't love him and how you can't love Spuffy. By the way i love "The Back Steps" as a title. Reminds me of the wonderful scenes the two of them shared on them steps. Intimate, closeness of Spuffy best represented during the times they spent on them steps just chatting normally.

You know, disliking one part of the couple isn't as uncommon as it might seem in fandom, but it's usually Buffy that these people dislike, not Spike.

The thinking generally goes: I love Spike, Spike loves Buffy ergo I love Spuffy, even if I don't particularly like Buffy's character.

But yeah, I think liking Spuffy and disliking Spike is pretty uncommon, WO. You're unique. 🙂

Weird. I love Spike AND Buffy almost equally.
Hun, this is a thread for people who love Spuffy...so yeah, we all love Spike - after all, he is half of the couple 😉

Lol, are you insinuating that I'm not a spuffier? I am both shocked and appalled! 😉 (Just kidding, my friend. 😀 )

Haha, I don't like Spike OR Buffy... Spike was alright in S2, although he still didn't have that spark that I admire in a character. I love Buffy in S7, but I find her to extremely annoying up until then. 😀

... I'm confused... Did everybody forget that I used to be and still are one of the biggest and most adamant spuffies around? :biggrin3: I find Spike to be a poser who doesn't have any dignity or respect for himself most of the time, THAT'S why I don't like him... And I don't relate to him.

But I don't love the 'ship because I love the characters; If so, then I'd be a huge Xillow. 🙂 I love them because of their dynamic and journey with each other. 🙂

Oh, I dislike both of them, it's not discrimination. 😀 And yay, I like being unique. :X3:

Okay, now that I can't understand - liking a ship but not liking either of the characters. Not saying it's not possible (obviously it is) but it kinda makes my brain go 'bwuh?' and I don't really get it. 😀

Uhm, I dunno... When I first fell in love with Spuffy, I'm pretty sure that I DID like the characters, but then again I started later in the series (Season 5)... I mean, I love Buffy, I really do. But that's only because loving her in S7 made me love her as a whole. 🙂 Even though she annoys me to death. And yeah, I used to love Spike... And then I realized what I like in my characters. 😉

It is pretty weird, in almost every other one of my favorite couples I love all of the characters, but with Spuffy I just... Don't. Hm. I dunno. But I love their journey, lol.

I'am with Xaphania it doesn't make sense to me. Surely if you love a ship it is because you love the characters involved. If you like the dynamic and journey of the relationship then surely that means you like the people in the relationship. It is all a bit confusing to me but i respect your opinion Oriana.:smile3:

I like different 'ships for different reasons. 🙂 My top 'ships, however, are always ones with a long journey, love/hate dynamic, tough chick, tons of UST, friendship, little romance, but lots of love (Think "Lily and James" from Harry Potter...). 🙂 If I love the characters than that's just a plus for me. 😀

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with Amy and Dan...I don't understand how you can ship Spuffy and not like either character? Do you mean that you like the ideas of the character's relationship, but not the actual characters?

You're an odd one, Oriana. 😉

For me, Buffy and Spike are two top two favorite characters, so the fact that I love them together is a big plus for me. 🙂

Angel used to my favorite, but not anymore....hence one of the reasons all this Bangel action is so horrible for me.

I still think that this: "I like different 'ships for different reasons. And yes, I really am... BUT, we should probably get back on topic lol. I mean, what is this? "Meet the Spuffy"? 😉 (Actually... "Meet the Spuffy" sounds uber-cool. Us spuffies meeting up and learning about each other... 😀 ) So, um... Do you guys think that Spuffy will end up together in the end?

Angel used to my favorite, but not anymore....hence one of the reasons all this Bangel action is so horrible for me.

I love Angel, but I also don't really LIKE him so much (Twilight=Cheesy movie for me)... Actually, it's weird, I've built up some sort of Bangel!Tolerance... Ugh. I dunno, Bangel is like a toxin. :tongue3:
