I'd be lying if I said that season six was what I wanted for the Spuffy relationship, from the potential it had at the end of season five. Does that make sense?
But I do love season six Spuffy. It's just so... deliciously dark. There are aspects I don't like--probably the universally hated aspects, so I won't go into them, you all know what they are.
And I think they needed to go through all that to get them to the place their relationship is in season seven. Without all that happened in S6, I think their relationship would be lacking.
That said, I do enjoy "fix it" fics (reading one right now, actually).
But I do love season six Spuffy. It's just so... deliciously dark. There are aspects I don't like--probably the universally hated aspects, so I won't go into them, you all know what they are.
And I think they needed to go through all that to get them to the place their relationship is in season seven. Without all that happened in S6, I think their relationship would be lacking.

I agree about season 6 being necessary to make their relationship so great in season 7. They overcame so much that Spike getting a soul for Buffy meant a lot more then it would have done if season 6 events hadn't occurred.
I loved the steamy scenes but i also liked the chats they had in season 6. It wasn't all about the physicality.

I'm not going to lie. For as messed up as their relationship got, their steamy scenes were hot. I don't exactly hate them!

Season Five
What are your favourite spuffy:
Fool for Love - because it is my favourite episode ever.
Checkpoint - because Buffy makes a bold decision to make use of Spike's abilities and gets him to do it for no immediate reward
Intervention - because Spike gets to demonstrate his strength of character. Enduring torture is a big deal in the buffyverse. Oh and the kiss at the end is groovy too.
Crush - because it is funny and JM just makes you feel so sorry for Spike even though all his actions in this ep are really kinda creepy.
The fantasy/realisation scene in Out of my Mind - very hot and very cool
Spike reluctantly helping Buffy, even though he went to the magic shop to watch her get killed in Family - just classic Spike
The Boatload of manly responsability scene in Checkpoint - it's just a scene I love to bits
Their Walk/talk in the cemetary while looking for Dawn in Blood Ties - Say what you like, Buffy can talk to the guy.
"You make me feel like a man" - The Gift - guh...heart-wrenching!
The knife throw/help up in Listening to Fear - they are naturals when they team up together...plus Riley walks in on the hand-moment which is pretty sweet in a nasty kind of way 😉
The frat party in I was made to love You "“ he's cheeky and offensive but when Buffy asks him to go away, he does exactly that"¦
Buffy, Dawn and Spike in his crypt in Tough Love"“ "For the right person, I would" - We get it Spike, you'd go all vengeance if something happened to Buffy.
Buffy's determination that Spike stays in the Van in Spiral. I would love to write a fic that fills in the gap of Buffy asking him to leave town with the gang"¦
Love season five. They have so many great moments. Love how Spike puts himself out there for the Love of Buffy. Sure he often makes a complete dick of himself but that's Spike; he's love's you-know-what after-all. I think the season sets up the Spuffy friendship really well. I love that it traverses the expanse between her not caring about Spike's existence through to him becoming a fringe member of her team and having a smidge of personal importance to Buffy. I mean, she begins to place a level of trust in Spike "“ she charges him with Dawn, she confides her feelings, she accepts his feelings for her (but certainly doesn't return them!) and begins to open her mind to the possibilities that he offers (mission-wise only of course!). yeah"¦love season five 🙂
I think she begins to develop an affinity with Spike that comes into play in season six. I think she always found him "˜hot' in a passing-observation-kind-of-way but this is not what is important about season five "“ it is their similarities, their connection that is important and has implications for the next season.
Season Six
What are your favourite s6 Spuffy:
After Life "“ I adore this episode. No, not because of the "˜hitchhiker' ghost/demon guy but because it is really all about the three Spuffy scenes; 147 days at Buffy's house, Every night I save you at Spike's house and "I think I was in heaven" in the alley. I capital L love this episode!
Life Serial "“ Cos Spike and Buffy go on a date.
Once More With feeling "“ because it wouldn't be a list of favourite season six episode without it , oh, and they have a really awesome kiss at the end. My favourite on-screen kiss of all time.
Tabula Rasa "“ because Randy and Joan rock. Because even without their memories Spike and Buffy are drawn to each other; that affinity I mentioned earlier, it's right there in play.
Smashed "“ they have sex. Yeah, sure it's violent and not exactly the most prudent thing for either of them to be doing but they bring a freaking house down! (And it's hot baby, not laughable like some recent comicBookFrakking)
Dead Things "“ cos it is a awesome episode that is incredible
The back steps in Flooded from the moment she steps on his ciggie butt to when she asks him if he knows anything about finances, it's another classic back-steps scene.
Wrecked "“ the morning after and looking for Dawn "“ because there is absolutely nothing romantic about it and yet its still hot.
When Spike tells Buffy "You're better than this" in Double Meat Palace "“ because it's true.
The post-break up scene in Hells Bells - because the genuine affection between them is palpable.
I know it's not strictly Spuffy but it really is hard to beat the moment that Spike get's his soul back"¦
When they end up sitting on the floor together playing cards in Older and Far Away
Nekkid Spike in Gone "“ god I'm shallow.
I loved the beginning of the season, where they were building on that friendship and affinity that they'd developed. It was like someone said earlier, so full of potential but then things go off the rails because sex and attraction gets thrown into the mix. And while part of me enjoys the sexiness of season six Spuffy, I do know that it was not the right thing for them to do "“ I mean Buffy is the Vampire Slayer and he is a soulless vampire. It puts the audience (or those who enjoy Spuffy) into the same predicament as Buffy "“ it's is wrong, but so damn enjoyable - which is actually pretty clever storytelling because it helps the audience sympathise with our heroine even more.
Like most of us, I'm not a big fan of the AR "“ but I can see why the writers went in that direction. I can see why the whole relationship took the turns it did "“ because it was necessary to get Spike and Buffy to where they had to get to. I don't think you can dismiss season six on the fact that Buffy is "˜not acting like herself' and that Spuffy sex is degrading to her because isn't that really the whole point of the season? This is Buffy and she has to hit rock bottom in order to gain new perspectives and become a better person. Same for Spike.
I'm a big fan of season six "“ I know it puts Buffy and Spike through the wringer and that some of the things they do are less than ideal but for me, it makes me love the characters even more. They learn from the mistakes and get to a better place by going through all the crap. I find the whole season completely compelling and a big reason for this is the Spike and Buffy story

Just rewatching some Spuffy moments from season 6 and one moment that reminds me of the relationship they have in season 7 is in "Hells Bells".
Its such a cute scene where both are so considerate and sweet. Shows how unique Spike is. Essentially he at this point is a souless vamp yet he cares so much for Buffy refusing to accept an apology for how she treated him.
Buffy looks adorable and the smiles make the scene for me. Then you have the humour where Spike says "He is evil after all and Buffy just accepts that". :biggrin3:

Viewing this variant cover for #36, do you get the feeling that Buffy is showing a bit more affection for Spike than for Ol' Broodie? The Bangels just might have been counting their proverbial chickens over the last two issues. At the very least, she doesn't look too put out with Spike fir not trying to track her down when he came back.

If you take the picture for what it is then you are right - she does seem more 'connected' to Spike but when you consider that it is a homage (or satirical pastiche?) of this: http://packofpaparazzi.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/new-moon-movie-poster-s1.jpg then it probably not as warm and fuzzy as it seems.
Though I have to say, after seeing that preview page I am uber excited for the Spike and Buffy reunion!!!

Favourite season 7 moments:
End of "Beneath you" where Buffy finds out Spike has a soul. The tears flowing down her face, Spike leaning on the cross, magical, never get tired of watching it unfold.
Scene in "Sleeper" where Buffy confronts Spike about the killings. So much raw emotion, you can tell Buffy's hurt, great scene to watch.
Buffy telling Spike she believes in him in "Never leave me" is another touching moment. Its obvious now that the feelings aren't one sided.
"Showtime" end scene where Buffy rescues Spike. Spike's realisation that Buffy isn't a figment, Buffy's face when she cuts him free and the way they lean on one another, heartwarming moment.
In "Potential" where Buffy hurts Spike and is really concerned and they share a moment where they clasp hands. Only a short scene but still so powerful.
"First Date" scene where they bump into one another in the corridor and Spike gives Buffy his blessing to on a date with Wood. Lovely caring moment. Also in the same episode you can't forget one of the best Spuffy quotes, "I'am not ready for you to not be here". Underlines how strong the connection is between the two and how it has grown in such a short space of time.
Perhaps my favourite moment in season 7 is in "Touched" when Spike gives Buffy a much needed pep talk and reveals what she means to him. Sarah's acting with tears coming down her face makes the scene so powerful, a genuine lovely moment which ends with them just holding each other, which is so symbolic.
The scene in "End of days" rivals the scene in "Touched" which is no easy feat. The "Shirty" and bonehead comment makes me laugh and in its own funny way is a lovely moment. Spike revealing how much the moment meant to him and Buffy's sincere response telling him she was there with him makes the scene more serious at just the right time, i just love how it unfolds. I also love the music used, just a brillant scene which i also never get tired of.
Finally we get to "Chosen". Two scenes i'll pick out. Firstly there's the scene where it seems Spike is going to let Buffy sleep elsewhere but then can't bear the thought of not being with her, the night before the big battle. Buffy's relief speaks volumes for how close the two have become and the special bond they now have with one another.
Lastly of course you have to mention the "I love you", "No you don't but thanks for saying it scene. More tears, more anguish, the fire when they touch hands, a perfect representation of Spuffy.

Many argue the two characters spent too much time together but it allowed them to understand one another, grow closer and develop a really strong bond which unfolded beautifully. The caring nature of season seven Spuffy, the heartfelt moments. All in all i just loved their relationship.

Beneath You - Because JM and SMG are so great together and of course, that final scene in the church. it still brings tears to my eyes.
Sleeper - Because Spike asks buffy for help and she gives it - even though she suspects him of doing some very bad things.
Never Leave me - Buffy's basement. She believes in him.
First Date - Spike needing to get to that restaurant to get Buffy despite telling her he was fine with her going on a date. Buffy checks on Spike first and tells him she doesn't want him to leave.
Touched - together in an abandoned house. Need i say more?
Chosen - because they spent their last night in sunnydale together. And she loves him and tells him so (silly, silly Spike -ye of little faith!)
Scenes (and why):
Buffy finding Spike in Lessons is very nice - and he has the answer to her ghost manifest problem too!
Buffy asking Spike to help her help Cassie in Help - the way she holds his fist is so good - is there picspam of Spuffy hands anywhere?
The rescue in Showtime is freaking awesome
The graveyard training scene in Potential with Buffy checking on his sore ribs complete with a hand squeeze. Rona is right, it is hot 🙂
Buffy challenging Spike to get back fully in the game in Get it Done. I love them both in that scene - honest and upfront.
The back door scene in End of Days - it's weird and a little bit unsatisfactory but I still love it.
Moments (and why):
I like that Spike seems to be on Buffy's mind in Same Time, Same Place as Buffy is very quick to suggest him as their blood 'tracker'. oh and I loveit when crazy Spike tells Buffy that she is 'glowing' - I'm wondering if it means anything what with all the glowing that has been going on in the comics and all.
The fantasy moment in Storyteller is classic.
Buffy and Spike explaining that the chip is no more in First Date
I also like that Spike is just about always positioned at Buffy's right hand - especially when it comes to fighting. And that's how i love my Buffy and Spike; fighting side by side.
Oh, and when Buffy asks to stay in his basement because Faith still has her room - how could I forget the face touch?
What do you like about season Seven Spuffy developments?
What I really like is that the bond that has been hinted at since season four finally really develops. They become close - they rely on each other.
What don't you like about S7 Spuffy?
Nothing really. I don't mind that they don't resume their physical relationship because I think it is more important that they work on other aspects of the relationship. A kiss would have been nice but firey hands are a very acceptable substitute thankyou very much.

I'm unashamedly a big fan of season seven - I sound really mushy in this post because I've sort of hilighted a lot of the intimate moments between Spike and Buffy but i really do love that Spike got a soul and that Buffy was able to forgive him for the AR and that she chose to have his chip removed and that he died to save the world. Season seven rocks... regardless of what some people might think 🙂
PS: this is my 2000th post. I must be just about the slowest person ever to reach this milestone. i've been a regular member here since early 2007 🙂
Episodes (and why):
Beneath You - Because JM and SMG are so great together and of course, that final scene in the church. it still brings tears to my eyes.
Sleeper - Because Spike asks buffy for help and she gives it - even though she suspects him of doing some very bad things.
Never Leave me - Buffy's basement. She believes in him.
First Date - Spike needing to get to that restaurant to get Buffy despite telling her he was fine with her going on a date. Buffy checks on Spike first and tells him she doesn't want him to leave.
Touched - together in an abandoned house. Need i say more?
Chosen - because they spent their last night in sunnydale together. And she loves him and tells him so (silly, silly Spike -ye of little faith!)
Scenes (and why):
Buffy finding Spike in Lessons is very nice - and he has the answer to her ghost manifest problem too!
Buffy asking Spike to help her help Cassie in Help - the way she holds his fist is so good - is there picspam of Spuffy hands anywhere?
The rescue in Showtime is freaking awesome
The graveyard training scene in Potential with Buffy checking on his sore ribs complete with a hand squeeze. Rona is right, it is hot 🙂
Buffy challenging Spike to get back fully in the game in Get it Done. I love them both in that scene - honest and upfront.
The back door scene in End of Days - it's weird and a little bit unsatisfactory but I still love it.
Moments (and why):
I like that Spike seems to be on Buffy's mind in Same Time, Same Place as Buffy is very quick to suggest him as their blood 'tracker'. oh and I loveit when crazy Spike tells Buffy that she is 'glowing' - I'm wondering if it means anything what with all the glowing that has been going on in the comics and all.
The fantasy moment in Storyteller is classic.

I also like that Spike is just about always positioned at Buffy's right hand - especially when it comes to fighting. And that's how i love my Buffy and Spike; fighting side by side.
Oh, and when Buffy asks to stay in his basement because Faith still has her room - how could I forget the face touch?
What do you like about season Seven Spuffy developments?
What I really like is that the bond that has been hinted at since season four finally really develops. They become close - they rely on each other.
What don't you like about S7 Spuffy?
Nothing really. I don't mind that they don't resume their physical relationship because I think it is more important that they work on other aspects of the relationship. A kiss would have been nice but firey hands are a very acceptable substitute thankyou very much.

Bangel Is Eternal
I was just watching "Pangs" today and noticed a little moment between Buffy and Spike which i'd never noticed before. Its when Spike is tied up and Buffy sort of lightly knocks him in the face and as she's going around him she puts her hand on his shoulder which seems really strange in terms of what is going on at the time. This might sound like a really insignificant moment but to me it was really interesting.
I don't know if it was a deliberate ploy or whether Sarah was just looking to get round James. See if you can spot what i'am seeing. :biggrin3:

I've always noticed that- And totally loved it. 😀 Then again, the SG was strangely nice to Spike in S4. Like in Goodbye Iowa: "This is Spike. But he's not bad anymore!"
Touched, Chosen and Never Leave Me would be my favorites, and Sleeper is pretty high up there. I like Touched and Chosen because it clearly displays how close Spike and Buffy have gotten, how strong their friendship is, how much they trust each other, and that they DO love each- Whether Buffy loves him as a friend or not. Personally, I believe that Buffy loves Spike romantically as well, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I like Never Leave Me because it's fun to see them talking in a civil manner and Buffy tells Spike that she believes in him.
I positively adore the little hallway scene between Spike and Buff in First Date. It just seemed like a really sweet and honest scene for them, and they both kept their dignity the whole time. 😀
The biting scene in Sleeper was great. Reminiscent of the Bangel biting scene in Graduation Day pt 2, but better imo. (sw) After all, Spike immediately stopped drinking her, whereas Angel nearly sucked her dry. (Not that I'm against that Angel/Bangel scene- I'm just explaining why I'm more comfortable with the Spuffy!bite scene. 🙂 )
I like the scene in Dirty Girls where Spike and Faith are chilling and Buffy walks in on them acting fairly flirty, and reacts in a possessive, jealous way. I also like how after Faith punches Spike in Dirty Girls, Buffy steps in and punches Faith, says that Spike is "with [her]", and that Spike is sorta like Angel.
I love the training scene between them in Potential. They have so much chemistry. 😀 I also like their bar scene, what with the smiling and such. And, of course, we can't forget Buffy calling Spike's crypt "comfy". (sw)
Their whole plotline in Touched is a spuffier's dream. I love how much they care about each other, and I love that after all of the shenanigans of last year they're finally tender with each other, and close emotionally.
The scene in End of Days is fantastic. Buffy admitted that she was there with Spike. What does that mean? We can only speculate, but it sounds pretty positive to me. 😀 Buffy told Spike that he gave her strength as well. Good stuff. 😀
Spike wasn't actually in this scene, but I loved the scene in Chosen where Buffy and Angel were talking about Spike. Also, it should be noted that when Angel asked "Are you in love with him", Buffy never said no. She slowed her walking and looked slightly conflicted. Also in Chosen, it's hard to not love the scene where Buffy talks to Spike, calls him a hero, and sleeps with him- But in an innocent way, of course. And I adore the ambiguity of the Spuffy!blackout scene.
In First Date when Buffy tells Spike that she's not ready for him to not be there. Also when Buffy and Spike completed each others' sentences in FD.
I loved how they stood and walked back to back in The Killer in Me- They make such a good team.
That moment in Showtime when Spike realizes that Buffy is real and they just look at each other for a moment is beautiful.
And there are lots more, but my fingers (and my brain) are getting tired. (sw)
I love how finally, after all of the hate and pain and chaos, they become best friends. I love how they cared about each other, and finally did so selflessly rather than selfishly. I love how they encouraged the other to be the best that they could be. Buffy's little smile at the end? It was probably because she knew that she was finally free. But it probably also has to do with being proud of Spike. Proud that he finally redeemed himself. Proud that he was a hero, and he was a hero because of her. For her. The fact that Buffy's last word of the whole series was "Spike"? NOT insignificant.
I don't like how it kind of took over the season. I've always loved the dynamic of the SG, and I felt that they were all very distant from each other this season. That made me kind of sad.
I would also like to comment of how Buffy jumped from Angel to Spike in one scene in Chosen. Personally, I think that this means that even though Buffy does--and always will-- love Angel, Spike is the person in her life right now, and Spike is the one that she cares the most about, even if she couldn't love him more than Angel.
Well... I can't see how it would be a good thing. Unless the sigh was a happy, breathless, ecstatic sigh? (sw)
Ooh, guys, you know what would be AMAZING? If somebody brilliant took every single Spuffy scene/moment ever, and scenes that hinted Spuffy but didn't exactly include the characters, and then made it into a movie!
