But I love that we're on our fifth thread. So much. We're so active and there are so many of us. The show ended so long ago but the fan base is still so active. I guess that goes for the whole site, but still...

You know how I know that Spuffy is the best ship ever. Well, this is how...I am a smoking, hard drinking, gun shooting, card playing, party crashing, skirt chasing hound. At one time I had three members of the Meridian Police Department baring down on me with their sidearms, funny story there.

Yet whenever I see those two on screen together I wanna cuddle up with my comfy blanket and toss back the chocolates.

So, I've come to a decision; after spending several years standing behind Spuffy and the romance it showed us; I'm tired.

It's such a fruitless exercise discussing it with the other shippers;; they're just waiting for their turn to speak and they take every opportunity to push your buttons; put down Spike. Luckily not all of them are like that and thank goddess for them.

Point being, I'm almost thirty; I don't wanna be the guy who ends up debating trivia when I'm sixty. I'm still a Spuffy and I'll still post here on the forum and especially on the back steps. But I just can't be bothered to discuss the ships with the other side.

I found one of the greatest loves ever known; and saw it as an all encompassing light to be shone. Now I realize with greatest pride; that it is a love that shines brightest inside.

As the guy who's still debating this "trivia" at 63, I could take offense at that, but since I still enjoy the debate and find it interesting, challenging, and even exciting at times, I'll just assume that you're talking about some other 60 year old guy here.

Let me rephrase to be clearer; I don't want to be arguing Buffy for the next thirty years until I'm sixty. Wasn't giving you grief WA; I'll still be a Buffy fan when I'm eighty. I just don't want to keep rehashing those same old discussions. Some people like debating the minutia of pop culture or literature; I do too. Lost and Star Wars and other assorted works that are complicated and require dissection to understand. To me Buffy isn't that; it wears it's heart on it's sleeve. So I already know for myself the truth of Buffy.

I realize that the only reason I let myself get drawn into those heated debates is my own outrage at hearing them denounce what I know for myself to be something special. I didn't join the fandom to argue with complete strangers about different opinions; I did it to commune with people of like minds.

New Years Treat

Spike and Angel walk into a bar; Angel says to the bartender; "I'll have a Slayer." the bartender mixes up a drink and hands it to him. Angel takes a drink and smiles, "That's sweet" he says. The bartender looks at Spike, "What'll you have?"; Spike bends over the counter and whispers something into his ear. Spike tosses a few bills down on the bar; then proceeds to walk out. Angel watches him as he goes and then turns back. The bartender makes the same drink and puts it on the bar.

"What's this?" Angel says.

The bartender smiles ruefully and tosses his bar towel over his shoulder.

"Your friend said he'd be back once it's the proper age."

I can fully understand this point of view - that's why I rarely get into the bangel Vs Spuffy debates anymore. I tend to hang in Spuffy places (here, LJ mostly) and that way I still find plenty of enjoyment in the fandom.

I feel 'ya. I've gotten to this point where I no longer care to debate it with the other side, as well. I love Spuffy. Always will, always have. I don't need to prove myself to anyone, and I certainly don't need to defend myself anymore. I'd much rather spend my time talking about how awesome Spuffy is with others who feel the same way. 🙂

The thing with the whole Bangel/Spuffy thing is that nobody is really going to change their minds a lot of the time, so you may as well just be talking to yourself.

Firstly thankyou all for voteing - We recieved a lot of votes and a lot of variety in the votes. Some categories were very clear cut, others the margins were very slim with only one vote determining the winner. So with no futher ado I precent our 2010 award winners...

1. Favourite Spuffy Episode

INTERVENTION

This kiss gets my vote because it's the first real kiss shared between them and it meant so much. Buffy was so moved by Spike's loyalty to her and Dawn that she kissed him, despite everything that happened with the Buffybot. No matter what happened between them in the past (the whole mortal enemies thing, Buffy being shocked and disgusted when Spike said he was in love with her, etc), this one kiss changed their relationship for the better.

3. Favourite Spuffy Scene

This category had a wide variety of nominations!

In third place (tied) - Intervention (end scene) and Beneath You (church scene)
In second place (tied) - Chosen (flaming hands) and Touched (Spike's speech)

AFTER LIFE - 147 days

What a magnificent scene! Spike’s expression on realising that it’s the really real Buffy; the way she talks to him and asks him the questions foremost in her mind and he kept count of the days she was gone. It gets me every time!

4. Best Performance – Buffy (from a Spuffy perspective)

when she finally tells Spike she loves him. SMG is able to convey so much emotion in that scene, especially through her eyes, which makes the scene amazing.

JM does it all, crazy, sane, season 2 ballsy & brash Spike and then that incredible church scene.

StarSlayer: My personal Spuffy highlight of 2010 was when I became a Spuffy shipper!!! I started watching BtVS in May and finished the series in July. I went into the series with an open mind, not leaning toward Bangel or Spuffy until I saw how both relationships developed in the show. Some of my friends said they preferred Bangel, but I wanted to wait and see. When I stopped liking Bangel in s3, I still didn't know if I would like Spuffy (since they didn't happen yet). I started liking the idea of them as a couple after "Something Blue," and it later progressed throughout season 5. Once "After Life" came along, I pledged my loyalty to Spuffy, lol As their relationship continued throughout season 6 and became something so beautiful in season 7, there was no way I was ever going back to liking Bangel as much as I loved Spuffy. I appreciate Bangel for what it was, but I knew Spuffy was the ship for me.

Summerlily: The abandond house scene in Touched is another quintissential Spuffy moment worth remembering

Marisa: Well I think it would be the boards this thread. I just joined this year and to be able to talk about not only buffy but spuffy is just amazing and to see so many takes on the relationship.

Wishing Oceans: This wonderful fanfic called Sideways.

Zalos: The scene where they finally talk to each other again in the #37 comic issue. In Spike's room.

ZobotheHobo: 2010 was the year I watched Buffy for the first time. So discovering Spuffy was my Spuffy highlight.

The Unspoken: Pretty much just joining these boards and the Spuffy discussions.
