I will wear this back-stepper award proudly! 😀 In my book though, everyone has shown some unwavering and inspiring Spuffy support in the Back-Steps since I joined, so I think we're all winners! 😀

Just read this in the latest Jeanty Q&A for Season Eight #40!

kdeb: Here are my questions:

Scott Allie has just done an interview with Buffyfest, in which he says that Spike will return and have a scene in no 40. I know you can't spoiler, but will this be where the Spike/Buffy relationship finally gets the respect that Scott promised us it would get in the last Q&A he did on this board?


Georges: I don't want to say too much, but I can say that scene with Buffy and Spike reminded me a lot of the scene in Season 5 when Buffy goes out on the porch of her back yard and Spike shows up ready to kill her and she's crying and all he does is sit there and pats her on the back in sympathy, which is what she needed right then and there. Sometimes that's what we all need. Not to solve our problems, but to just sit there and sympathize... 'sometimes there just aren't enough rocks.'

Oh my god EEEEPPPPP!!!! I LOVE that scene in FFL! This being similar... Oh god. I love Spike and I love how he's always just what she needs. I am SO excited to read issue 40 now! Only a few more weeks!

I can't figure out what the intent of Joss Whedon and Dark Horse was with trashing the Angel character to the point where he is lost all credibility with a great many readers and fans. Over and over you read how Angel has simply fallen into such a negative character that a reader does not care what happens to him now. I am one of them.

I think that he did realize he was in love with Buffy when he wakes up from his dream. The intensity of his response and the connection with his past life, IMO, give an immediate quality of truth and his experience with love. It's a nightmare because he knows what Love has brought him in his life - pain and suffering and death. What makes it all so great is that this same quality of his capacity to love with such intensity will give him back control of his life and the integration of the human and the demon - the same metaphor that is represented symbolically in Spike & Buffy as a couple.

Let me rephrase to be clearer; I don't want to be arguing Buffy for the next thirty years until I'm sixty. Wasn't giving you grief WA; I'll still be a Buffy fan when I'm eighty. I just don't want to keep rehashing those same old discussions. Some people like debating the minutia of pop culture or literature; I do too. Lost and Star Wars and other assorted works that are complicated and require dissection to understand. To me Buffy isn't that; it wears it's heart on it's sleeve. So I already know for myself the truth of Buffy.

I realize that the only reason I let myself get drawn into those heated debates is my own outrage at hearing them denounce what I know for myself to be something special. I didn't join the fandom to argue with complete strangers about different opinions; I did it to commune with people of like minds.

New Years Treat

Spike and Angel walk into a bar; Angel says to the bartender; "I'll have a Slayer." the bartender mixes up a drink and hands it to him. Angel takes a drink and smiles, "That's sweet" he says. The bartender looks at Spike, "What'll you have?"; Spike bends over the counter and whispers something into his ear. Spike tosses a few bills down on the bar; then proceeds to walk out. Angel watches him as he goes and then turns back. The bartender makes the same drink and puts it on the bar.

"What's this?" Angel says.

The bartender smiles ruefully and tosses his bar towel over his shoulder.

"Your friend said he'd be back once it's the proper age."

Interesting. 🙂 I think Mia Wasikowska (Alice) would be a really good choice. I'm terrible with casting though, so I can't think of any off-hand now, lol.

Here's another question I wanted to pose to Spuffies. 🙂 Lately, I've been reading around the BB that Spike had this extremely selfish, obsessive, and possessory attitude toward Buffy, mainly before he got his soul. Now, we know that really isn't true because Spike showed selfless acts when he didn't have a soul (taking a beating from Glory and protecting Dawn after Buffy died for example). For me at least, I think Spike did have an obsession with Buffy before "Intervention," and that was the episode where things changed. He still wanted Buffy during s6, but I don't think it was similar to how he wanted Buffy pre-Intervention.

So, here's my question. When do you think Spike's obsession stopped being an obsession? Was it when he finally got his soul or before that? Or do you think it never was selfish and/or an obsession? Thanks for any responses 🙂

This is a difficult question for me because many people would say I get obsessed with the people I like so I'm kind of like "it was an obsession, so what?" But whatever... I think it changed in intervention. When he says "just be Buffy" to the Buffybot and his expression changes... I think he sorta gets it then. Then when he's being tortured, he REALLY gets it. And from then on, it changed.

I do have a question stemming from that. I don't want to reach question overload up here but I'm wondering.. The first time I watched Intervention I had no doubt in my mind Spike wouldn't tell Glory about Dawn. When her minions came and take him I knew she wasn't going to get ANYTHING out of him. What about you guys? Was that just me an my blind faith in Spike?

No, I don't think it was just you but it might have been blind faith in Spike. See, I knew he wasn't going to tell her and not because I'd read spoilers but because I felt by that time, we knew the character. People who really know and trust Spike like us Spuffies, we understand him. I'm sure the majority of us knew that he wasn't going to betray Buffy and Dawn like that. I had no doubt that he wouldn't say anything, he would let them kick the crap out of him and then he'd escape. So, I suppose it's not a matter of faith in Spike it's a matter of us knowing, understanding and trusting him as a character more than some others do.

I didn't want Spike to tell, but I honestly didn't know if he would or not because I still didn't know at that point if he genuinely loved Buffy. But, when he told Glory he wasn't telling her "jack" and how Buffy was going to kick her butt, I knew he wouldn't tell. Then, when he gave his reasoning to Buffy, thinking it was the Buffybot...how can you not just feel moved by that? 🙂

I think Spike's obsession was pretty obvious when he was standing around outside her house and all that, particulalry while Riley was still on the scene - it reached it's crecendo in Crush when he chained her up and all that but Buffy shut him down enough to make him back off - when Buffy tells him to leave her alone in 'I was Made to Love You', he does. The Buffybot is a kinda obsessive gesture but I think, one born out of the realisation that he was never going to get the real thing. So that's when I think the obsession acctually lessened.

I think it stopped being truely obsessive once Spike realised that he could be truely useful to Buffy and that she would value him for his contribution. I don't think their season six relationship was obsessive in the same way that StalkerSpike was obsessed...it was something different - desperation (on both sides) rather than obsession maybe?

I recently went to the IMDb Buffy board (that place is just as awful as ever) and was confronted with a Spuffy complaining about Chosen and how Spike and Buffy didn't "end up together." Allow me to complain to you guys about the people on that board who agreed. Seriously? Spuffy's final scene in Chosen is fantastic. He died becoming worthy of her and being the man she deserves and she finally admitted her love to him. AND the fire!!!! I feel a little annoyed that there are Spuffies out there who do not appreciate the beauty of that scene.

UGH that attitude bothers me so much. And I've come across some Spike fans too who are pissed that he died! I'm kinda like 😵 because 1) he comes back anyway, and most importantly: 2) he died on his OWN terms, in one of the most awesome ways; He SAVED THE WORLD, and he proved himself a champion! That's more than most of the Buffyverse characters get and it's really fitting for Spike. I love that scene and I'm glad he went out like that.
