@Tranquility, it has been confirmed that Angel is the yin to Buffy's yang, and that the Universe has chosen them because they are meant to be together. That was the whole thing with Twilight. The Universe chose them because their love was so strong. The Universe thought it could manipulate that love. It thought that Buffy would be willing to follow Angel and destroy the world and create a Master Race. But Buffy rejected her fate.
If that is not the definition of soul mates, I'm not sure what is.
Regardless, I don't care if Buffy is destined to be with Angel. Joss said he's unattainable to her. And B uffy continually rejects her fate, hence rejecting Angel.
