It's still going on as far as I can see. I'm really careful which threads I post on because there is so much Spike and Spuffy hate.

Yeah, I haven't been here long and had no idea what to expect but after a couple of experiences I think it's best to leave the topic alone lol. Although at times I find it hard not to put in my two cents 🙄

I think people are pretty tolerant of Spuffy now (aside from the creator of that one thread who is fortunately no longer here). They might not like it but they accept its happened, that's the way the show went even if they would've done it different.

I don't like Spuffy as a romantic couple. As a purely platonic friendship, yes, as a couple, no. I just don't think it was healthy for either of them (plus I prefer Spike with Dru 😛).

I think Buffy needed someone who was like a cross between Angel, Spike AND Riley. In other words she needed someone:

With a pulse (Riley)
Who accepted she was the slayer (Angel, Spike and Riley)
Who loved her for who she was (Angel)
Who could keep up with her (Spike)
Who accepts her, flaws and all (Angel and Spike)
Who gets on well with her friends (Riley)

An awful lot of people struggle to separate themselves from what they enjoy. Therefore hardcore shippers often take criticism of their ship personally. This often leads to an angry response and things escalate from there.

I would encourage you to put in your 2 cents, maybe even a dollar. Keep your posts on the show and characters, rather than other members. If someone gets personal with you then report the post. If your struggling with a member generally you can add them to your ignore list for a while. Get tired of the topic then just head over to another one.

I just find it a shame when people are scared to contribute when this place is very flexible and gives you lots of opportunities to adjust to your sensitivity level. I've posted plenty about Angel and Spike and have never had a problem 🙂

I have often not posted because of how vehement the dislike of Spike is from some, really blinkered about his overall story and progression and very negative about his relationship with Buffy even after he became souled. I'm not sure there is much acceptance and not just denial, ha.

I never understand preferring Spike soulless tbh. It is all one complete story path and the way he went was very coherent to who he had been. His story showed how he was limited by his nature so keeping him stuck at an earlier stage would have reduced his personal progression, made him static. That's fine with characters that come and go, like Harmony and Dru, but not if someone is going to be a main character I don't think. Spike grew once he was souled and we just got more layers to him from the choices he made. I enjoyed Spike/Dru as a couple in the season they were together, it was fun to watch, but it wasn't a relationship that I thought was good for Spike as they were inherently 'bad' and they weren't very stable or healthy in the way they saw/treated each other.

Anyway, that's getting sidetracked in a Spuffy specific thread, Spike progressively integrated into the group and his willingness to do this built up further in AtS 5 and continued further still in the comics until he finally decided he wanted to belong with the people he cared for most. So he is now in S11 very much part of the gang. He has his own friendships in the group, he returned to support Dawn and was living with Xander as flatmates for a while, and he is more individually part of things now than even Riley became. Plus, he has always very much loved Buffy for both sides of herself. Just in the previews to #7 of S11 he is boosting her confidence and telling her she is more than just her powers. I can't deny that he hasn't got a pulse though. 😛

Is this so surprising, though? We are drawn to certain ships, because they resonate with something inside us. If someone asked me who I am, I would show them my bookcase or my spotify playlists.

What a hoot! My teenage daughter just asked me what I'm doing. She rolled her eyes and told me she would so block me on instagram if I every used it!!! She doesn't understand the power of Buffy and Spike. What an epic couple.
