This has come up on several occasions, and I just thought that I would point out that, according to his bio, or more accurately, his several bios, listed on different sites, James Marsters is between 5'10" and 5'11". That puts him just slightly ABOVE the average height for a man according to the latest studies (5'9").
I can't find a listing for his weight anywhere, but I wouldn't describe him as "thin," except maybe if he were standing next to Xander any time during the last three seasons of the show.
David Boreanaz, at 6'1" looked so much larger than Sarah partly because in Seasons 1 through 3, she often wore lower heeled shoes or athletic shoes. From Season 4 on, even when patroling, she wore boots with 2" heels almost constantly, most likely to partially compensate for Marc Blucas being about 6'4"
(Not a really big thing, but I've heard quite a few times, here and other places, how small Spike was, and he really isn't.)
Yeah, I've heard that before (about his height). But everyone always seemed to be the same height as him, especially the girls. But you're right, it's probably just the shoes.
As for David, he just looked really... wide.
😀 Like, SMG looked like this tiny little nonexistant thing next to him.
😀
As for Spike being thin, he was pretty slender in S6. Not so much S4 or something, but when he was actually with Buffy he looked pretty thin.
I always thoight Marsters was about 5'9". When we saw him in Hallowhedon he didn't seem to have any inches on my friend who is that height. So yeah James is about average I'd say.
As for matching? I don't think it really matters. I'd say that she seems to like guys who are at least average height (sorry Jonathan) but she did once swoon over Riley's manly form lol.
Actually, I once read this article that said that women are more attracted to average sized guys when looking for a long term relationship, and tall guys when looking for a short term relationship.
As for matching, it doesn't REALLY matter, but some people just look better together.
🙂
Awh thank you! I really do like it here. Everyone's so nice.
That's good.
🙂 We have a history of scaring the newcomers. : scared : You seem to fit in though. It's like you're already family.
😀
Yes thats true, first loves rarely do work out. Most of the time it's an age related issue. And even though Buffy was very young when she began her relationship with Angel, it was different then the typical high school romance, not just because he's a vampire but because they connected on such a deep level. And the reason I said "once upon a time" is because Buffy did move on from Angel and formed other relationships (Riley I still never understood...) but regardless she didn't spend the rest of the series pining over Angel. But my best friend said something really interesting about a love people have for one another, she said "if you honestly love that person, you're never going to fall out of love with them. If you fall out of love, you were never in love to begin with." I find myself agreeing with that statement. So, applying that to Bangel, just because they moved on with other people doesn't mean the love between them ever burned out. They will always have that connection.
And maybe that's true. I'm sure I'll always love MY first love (yes, tweens DO have first loves
😀 ), but that doesn't mean I'll want to be with him forever and ever. When people grow up they change. Buffy was only a teen when she was with Angel; She's definitely changed A LOT. And I'm sure Angel has, too. So although I'm sure they'll always feel something for each other, that statement could also fit with Spike, seeing as they pretty much grew up together.
Sidebar. I never ever ever got why Cordy and Angel ever had to happen. I'm sorry, but Cangel just didn't make sense to me. It has nothing to do with me preferring Bangel or anything, Cangel was just...weird.
Yeah, I can see how some people think that. Although I don't enjoy Cangel myself, I can also see why people love it. I myelf used to totally love Cangel. And then I learned about Spangel and Dangel. Like, I love Spuffy, but I also love 50 other ships involving Spike and Buffy. So I get that.
🙂
But as for Cangel, most people love it because it had a lot of build-up and it was a very mature relationship that turned both people into BETTER people.
In the beginning, Cordy was a shallow cheerleader who thought Angel was just some hot guy. Angel thought Cordy was just some ditzy little girl. Cordy kept trying to woo said "hot guy" while Angel kept ignoring her in Buffy's favor. Pretty soon they both started bickering with each other, always thinking they were right.
After Angel left, Cordy came over to Angel's show. They then became good friends, and soon best friends. Angel has said before that Cordy was his best friend, and she knew him more than anyone.
Up until S3 they kept up the arguing, though. Cordy was all playful and jumpy and happy, while Angel was always broody and mysterious.
In S3, Angl really fell in love with her. Cordy had always kind of loved him, but once they became friends she decided to forget it about it. But you could see in the way he told her he loved her and threw DARLA, who was pregnant with his child, that he really did love her.
When they were friends/ almost lovers they really improved each other. Angel became happier and sweeter, and Cordy became more wise and mature.
Plus, the relationship was pretty funny and sweet.
Many people think it to be the equivalent of Spuffy, although I greatly disagree.
😀 They're two people who you'd never suspect to get together, but you can't imagine them NOT getting together.
😀 And they have much more of the opposites attract thing than Bangel, IMO. Cordy and Angel were the REAL opposites attract. See, I love those "opposites attract" 'ships. (Icarly: Freddie and Sam. Harry Potter: Ron/ Hermione, Lily/ James. Mortal Instruments: Clary/ Jace. Pride and Prejudice: Elizabeth/ Mr. Darcy) But the thing about opposites attracting is that they're never REALLY opposite, because people who are extremely different like that simply have a hard time loving each other. Real, strong love has friendship first. Like Spuffy and Cangel.
😀 And all of the above mentioned ships (ron/ hermione etc) WERE friends, and though they were different they also had a lot in common, like their values.
🙂
... This is very odd, considering it's been years since I've liked Cangel.
😀
You never saw the chemistry between them? I thought both pairings had a significant amount of chemisty, but I guess it's all your perspective. They do have different personalities, but like they always say, opposites attract.
As for opposites attract, see my above statement.
😀 Buffy and Angel seemed TOO different. As I've forementioned 'ships that are considered "opposites attract" are one, almost ALWAYS love/ hate, and they DO have things in common, it's just that those things aren't all that obvious at first glance. And pretty much all are good friends before they get together. Angel and Buffy, as said in Lovers Walk, weren't friends. And they will never be friends. IMO love like that doesn't last. People in strong, loving relationships always say that their partner is their best friend. IMO, romantic love is just an extension of friendship love. It's a love where you want to be both emotionally AND physically close to your partner. And it's a strong affection where you know that other person extremely well.
Haha David/Angel is a big guy, I'll give you that. I always found it kind of cute that she was so tiny compared to him. Regarding physical attraction, I bet it was hard for Buffy to resist Spike without a shirt on. He definitely bested Angel in that.
Haha.
😀 Yeah, Spike's pretty hot. Angel's a cute guy, I'll give him that, but Spike definitely has the muscles.
Thank you for the quotes from Jane Espenson though. I've never read them before and they really put things in persective for me. I suppose it's possible, and believeable, that she loved both men equally.
But even so, a part of me will always prefer her with Angel.
You really shouldn't have said that. It will now become my life mission to convert you to Spuffy.
😀 Although you are awfully fun to debate with.
🙂
I agree! I've actually tried this tactic. My best friend isn't a Buffy fan (I don't understand why either...), but she's watched both Bangel episodes and Spuffy episodes and has said that she liked the relationship between Buffy and Angel better. To be fair, she's never seen "Touched" which is major Spuffiness. xD
I dunno. I believe that to really love and understand a relationship you need to watch the entire story of both characters. Without that, it's pretty much just which 'ship is more glam.
😀 But, if you're a fan like us who love and know everything about Buffy, then we can know which relationship was better for her on the long run.
