"Twilight" fans can breathe a sigh of relief after studio executives confirmed the upcoming sequel "New Moon" will not be affected by an ongoing lawsuit against author Stephanie Meyer.

The writer, who penned the books on which the films are based, is facing legal action from her former college roommate, who alleges Meyer based the novels on a short story she wrote as a student.

The lawsuit was reported to have had severe implications for the film franchise -- which stars Robert Pattinson -- with Internet gossips speculating that the shooting of "New Moon" in Canada had been halted.

But a spokesperson from Summit Entertainment, the company behind the movie, insists "New Moon" remains on schedule for a November 20 release.

The rep tells MSNBC.com, "Production is underway, in Vancouver, totally as planned. There is no delay. Whatever you're hearing about a lawsuit interfering with the film (and) its release, all I can say is it's totally false."

Thoughts on this, guys?

There is absolutely no way that Stephenie Meyer plagiarised other people's material for 'Twilight'. Think about it. You can steal the ideas of any masterpiece throughout history... and you steal 'Twilight'.

No.

EDIT: DAMMIT REVOLVER

"Ha!" at the dammit revolver part ;)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*ahem*

It would explain the complete lack of plot. I mean, trying to expand a short story to a novel (let alone a series of novels) is hard enough for a good, experienced writer. If you're not, it's nearly impossible.

*leaves thread to avoid stoning*

My turn to karmaify YOU. AWESOME. /me high fives
This kind of thing bores me because its bandwagoning.
Most every BIG thing has a claim that its someone elses.
It happened to The Beatles, it happened to Hitchcock, it happened to The Spice Girls, it happened to JK Rowling and I am sure it will happen again and again with someone who hasn't got much in the bank trying to cash in on someone elses success.

I mean yes, now we know she stole the idea of sparkling vampires from the Whedonverse, but thats not nearly as bad a crime as the actual books - which are absolute twaddle anyway!

There are a lot of things I should be doing updates on... I'm commenting on ridiculous internet rumors so that my publicist's day will be just a little bit better.

I am not being sued. No one has contacted me or my publisher to inform either of us that I'm being sued. I never had a roommate named Heidi. There is no professor in the BYU English department named Dr. Peter Benton (though there is a character on ER by that name). And most of all, I began writing Twilight exactly the way I've told people in countless interviews and events for the past six years: I had a cool dream, I wrote it down, writing it down was really fun, so I kept writing until I had a whole book.

The sad thing about this silly situation is that so many legitimate news outlets reported it without doing any research at all to determine if there was any truth to the story. And at least two of these facts are really, really easy to confirm. Particularly, the one about the BYU professor. A simple on-line search can give you that information. Also, a quick call to my publisher would have cleared up the whole lawsuit story. (Kudos to the fansites who did their due diligence and debunked this rumor days ago.)

I guess the moral of the story is that—big surprise—you can't believe everything you read on the internet...

That's from the first page of her website. (StephenieMeyer.com | The Official Website of Stephenie Meyer)

Thanks for that, Looking Glass. Looks like it's just a rumor.
And I will convince hundreds of thousands of teenage girls to worship you and everything you can print this thread on. (and then you can make a movie out of it)

It's always the teenage girls that worship me! It needs to be the adult ones, damn it!
She wrote the books based on a dream she had? Seriously? And she thought this was a good plan? People get bored when you TELL them about your dreams never mind create a whole series based on them.

And we so know the dream was prompted from a Bangel marathon she treated herself to over ice cream that night. (On a similar yet also different note this link pretty much covers all reasons why Twilight is a load of erm...Twlightly Twoddle Why I Hate Twilight)

that list reads like it was written by a middle schooler
Ok, I am so damn sick of seeing all the freakin Twilight hate on this board. WE GET IT. You hate the freaking story. NOW STOP BASHING IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If threads like this continue, I think it should be made a rule that Twilight cannot be discussed here, 'cause the same things are being posted over and over again and it's damn tired.

END OF RANT.

You could say the same things for Buffy- we talk about the same whedonverse topics over and over again. Besides a person has a right to repeatedly rant as long as there are those to rant with him.

but thats not what the thread is about....?
meh, it's okay, I agree with Gem, who told me that it could've been epic with a good writer. But ya'know, I also agree with both revolver & Britt. Yes, why steal that idea, and yes, we get it, you hate it. Build a bridge.

Well, it's their right to express their opinions on the board. Regardless if they say it over and over again. Can't really tell them they can't. They can.

What I said to her but faster ;) haha

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you always should do it. I'm sure no one minds constructive posts but the bandwagon of haters in every thread that even mentions Twilight is somewhat tiring.

Oh and I haven't seen it so can't comment either way. 😛

This is a Buffy and Angel board with movement into all Whedonverse - anything else discussed here is done so on the whim of Buffy Summers.

This topic, oddly, is rather contentious and peoples 'opinions' are causing alot of conflict because of how extreme they are, so for board harmony, is it really such a bad idea that this topic be requested not to be discussed.

Aussie agrees: Its really not that much differant to the war between Bangel and Spuffys... just not about Buffy.

No, it really is. There is a jovial aspect to the Bangel/Spuffy debate, but this one actually has upset members (I think it was HisMrs that said in the other thread that she would have to pull out of the discussion because she didn't wanna risk losing friends over it because what they saying was rather contentious). There seems to be a great divide over this with very little common ground.

You either love it and feel the need to defend it, ot hate it (even if you haven't read it) and feel the need to argue why its rubbish - and some 'respected' members have actually called into question the intelligence of those who do like it, and not in the fun way one does with Spuffy/Bangel.
