Stronger Storm System to Bring Soaking Rain, Mountain Snow to California | The Weather Channel

So, an extremely strong storm is heading into Los Angeles Wednesday evening. Out of all the cities in this country, Los Angeles is probably the worst place to be when there's a heavy storm. Why? Because the majority of drivers here become even more retarded when it's raining. If possible, you should just stay off the road until the rain stops. Driving in the rain is so hit and miss here...it doesn't help that many of the drivers don't speak English, and therefore, are unable to read the traffic signs. Plus, they REALLY drive like morons.

If some of us are missing after the storm, it probably means we died horribly in a tragic car accident. 😛

Sounds like a normal weekend to me. There's a storm hitting us later today, high winds (rain is a given, it's a constant) mostly. Luckily I'm only at work till 10am so I'm spending the day hidden away. I'll pick up your food tomorrow, Cleo! Don't be a selfish cat.

Ironic, isn't it? Now, right on the heels of the fires, there will be flooding and mud slides. No wonder people are leaving California in droves.

Kind of funny story about the LA storm on my MSN page.

It's raining in Los Angeles on Thursday, and people are freaking out. Car accidents due to the rain turned some freeways into parking lots. Authorities in the car-crazed city had to remind folks how to drive in the rain...

My friend moved to Austin for school and says that when they get a dusting of snow traffic comes to a stand still. I can sort of understand snow. Since they almost never get any down there, but rain - seriously? 😦

Rain can be quite deadly. Especially with the amount of traffic in LA. It's no joking matter; it causes more fatalities than snow. There are over 3 thousands wrecks in the US every day because of rain.

My friend moved to Austin for school and says that when they get a dusting of snow traffic comes to a stand still. I can sort of understand snow. Since they almost never get any down there, but rain - seriously? 😦

Seriously, people died in Sydney due to the heavy rainfall. Including a 14 year old.

Got to be able to drive in the rain here, not so fond of driving in the snow though, it's ok if the roads are clear and it's snowing but it's when they haven't done the roads that it's not so fun.

Does LA have similar sunlight to WA? The biggest issue with light rain after a long period of dry/hot, is the oil on the road. It lifts in light rain and makes driving like driving on an oil slick. It is much safer after a few days or constant rain.

People are either unaware or get impatient at those who are (which leads to risky behaviours - overtaking and such). I was driving in town today and find the city drivers go super fast to get to the speed limit, then spend more time focused on speed matching than driving. Cruise control is no good with constant stops and roundabouts. I feel it would be better to have a speed "guide" rather than strict limit. Like zones of 40- 60km per hour, and a rule that slow drivers keep left. I'd happily cruise In the left lane as I do not have as much city driving practice now! Everyone is in such a rush. I enjoy the drive.

Also should note, places with a lot of rain are set up to handle a lot of rain. Dry places are not. Issues arise.

Your roads are so damn narrow anyway. Can't imagine trying to drive them with snow on the ground; must be like trying to thread a needle.
