Stranger Things

Are we not doing another rewatch this weekend then?! I'd been saving myself from watching it just in case..... 😳😛

Thanks dude! I'll see where I get with it, as I've been desperate to watch but now I know everyone else has got with the times, I feel like I need to catch up! 😀

Finished it. It was great. The atmosphere and the tension building was spot on. The emotional scenes were really well acted. The child actors had great chemistry. Also might have to buy the soundtrack.

This was one of the great things for me. The pacing of the plot was very effective and truly was tense. This along side the old school characters (which I miss in TV and film) were a big part of the appeal for me.

A modern old-school TV show is exactly what I would call this. I didn't know I wanted it until now.

I think what I'm most impress with is the performances by the kids, they found a great set of actors. Often in shows/movies, the weakest links are the kid actors, since let's be honest it's hard to find a young kid that can act well. I am most impressed with Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), I think she'll become a big star with time, it surely was an amazing breaking performance! And she's only 12! I couldn't believe it after seeing her in interviews, what a brilliant young actress!

Spot-on about good young actors being hard to find. That is why a show like Buffy casted people are are a number of years above teenage age. So yeah these were really finds. And you can't over state that without them getting the younger casting right the whole thing could have fallen apart.

I don't think young actors are hard to find, I imagine Hollywood is swimming in child actors (and pushy parents) Working with them is harder because of the laws on child labour. They have to have a certain amount of breaks, schooling, their hours of work are legislated for etc. Adults can work as long/little as their agents can argue for in their contracts.

You make a good point. But then I really don't agree that it would be awash with young actors certain not the sort of age some of these kids were. And any parent worth their sault would be careful about forcing their child into the line light at such a young age. You always hear that clitche from directors that the right child star was hard to find, well its a clitche for a reason.

You obviously don't watch as many reality shows as I do 🙂 There are a million pushy parents out there, and we are talking about kids of 3,4, 5 years of age. I am not saying it's all about the parents, I'm sure a lot of kids want to be 'stars' and emulate what they see on tv. A casting call goes out in LA for a 12 year old girl and the casting director is inundated.

I feel I must insist if you ever want to put a spoiler in your post. I ask you to put a warning in capital letter. Just so I don't miss it, and yes I am being serious.

If I am around when rewatch is happening, I am in too - my housemate hasnt seen the end and we are getting distracted by other shows.

Child actors are easy to find, but imo hard to direct. Some kids have a gift to understand what you are saying, but very many will do their own interpretation and its not how you imagined but you cant exactly say NAH YA CRAP! And many young people will not be self critical. I am sure I have seen SMG on more than one occasion not happy with a take and re-done it herself, without a director. I dont imagine children have the experience for that.

Since I'm gonna be off work & immobile for a while. I'm pretty much free whenever. 😉
