Supernatural Thread: Volume 2 (Spoilers in this thread)

There's only ten episodes left of S5, with this pretty HUGE story line to tie up. I know Joss has done it in less eps, but Kripke likes to draw things out a lot more than Joss. Makes me hopeful for a S6.
 
Oh my gosh.

Angels? GOD? Wow. I didn't think this was the direction the show was going to go in, but...I like it!

So, God asked one of his Angels to bring Dean back from the dead. I love it.

I'm scared for the future, though. If this big battle that has been referred to in the past is still going to happen, this means that Dean could be destined to lead the Angels against Sam, who might be destined to lead the demon army still? Am I getting this right? This could get really bad. This idea of the boys being pitted against each other is disturbing for me. What I like best about the show is their close relationship, and the fact that they fight on the same side always. The bigger picture is being imposed on the self-contained universe of Team Winchester. I'm not sure I like it.

Dean's expression when Castiel (sp?) told him he was an Angel, and that God had commanded he bring him back was GREAT! Who knew Dean, ye of little faith, would come face to face with a real bonafide Angel! Wait 'till Sam hears about this!

Question about Ruby: I'm confused. What happened to Katie Cassidy? Is this new actress playing the same character?
 
Katie Cassidy was let go for 'budget reasons' and Genevieve Cortese was brought in to play Ruby. Technically, they are the same character, but I honestly can't say they would have taken Ruby in the same direction had Katie retained the role. But, it all worked out well for Jared Padalecki...he just got engaged to Genevieve, lol.

Yeah, this is where the show takes on a WHOLE new theme and direction. I, personally, love the way it's gone, I think it's really inspired on the part of the writers. But, it does lead to a whole mess of problems for the boys.

You were, technically, spot on with your predictions, but it's a little more complicated than Sam leading the demons and Dean leading the Angels, but that doesn't get revealed until S5.

A lot of people dislike S4 and 5 because of the theme, but more because of Castiel. He is a pretty main part of the show now, being bumped up to a regular cast member in S5, and the fans aren't happy about that, mostly because it's a show about the Winchesters, and they don't want screen time taken away from the boys for an Angel of all things. I LOVE Cas, I think he's great character, but I like him a lot more in S5 than I did in S4.

Where do you think they would have taken Ruby's character had Cassidy continued to play her?
 
Its funny to read that people don't like the angels plot or that they were suprised... the show was all about demons, of course there was the other side lol

Episode 10 in season 5 was amazing, finally the plot moves on but 2 after it and 2 in front were lacking the end of the world vibe story... it was just another job urgh haha

Here's to a juicy angel/big baddie (Thought I'd say that rather than say who it was in case of spoilers) story if it comes soon.

Exactly. Plus, SPN was never set up to be like BtVS which mostly left Christianity out of it and we more or less had the Powers That Be as their equivalent of God while in SPN it was made clear from the beginning that it was a lot more Christianity-oriented (or more like religion in general), what with all the Bible stuff, biblical Hell and the Latin and I know there is more I can't think of right now because it's early and I haven't had my morning coffee yet. It was there from day one, it shouldn't have been that surprising.
 
It was just a matter of time before the angels would be in it, and even that wasn't original, angels are just as bad as the demons esp when it's towards feelings and humans. I liked the shift in story because it became a power play, generic demons were no match for angels but older ones were, Sam and his powers yadda yadda... it was very interesting. no longer was it a monster of the week show.

I don't think Cassidy would have been able to take the character down that dark road that Cortese was so good at. Cassidy was the pretty little blonde, not the typical bad guy that's usually shown on this, or any, show. Cortese was more suited to the darker role, she was perfect for the dark road Ruby went down.

I think most people were surprised by the introduction of Angels and God because even though we watch so many shows with a supernatural element, like BtVS, Charmed, etc., very, VERY few of them show any sign of God being in existence, never mind have Him be a major part of the show. While the show never made a secret of the fact that it, and the boys, relied heavily on Christianity and the Bible for help with getting rid of demons and ghosts, it wasn't until somewhere in the middle of S2 that the presence of God and Angels was even hinted at, which started Dean's belief, and it wasn't until S4 that that presence was confirmed. And while the fans had a long time to get used to the idea, that S2 ep had little concrete evidence, and Dean's acceptance was made in such a throw away context, many people forgot about it by the time S4 came along, which was why they were so surprised by Castiel's introduction.
 
Really? I didn't like Cortese's performance at ALL. She frustrated me in every episode because she wasn't the same character. Perhaps she wouldn't have been a bad actor otherwise, but she should have prepared better and picked up some of Cassidy's mannerisms. Because like it or not, Cassidy built the character.

I wasn't too surprised that they went the angel route, but I was surprised by how they did it. I completely ADORE Castiel, but the other angels being... well, dicks? A little surprising. But I really appreciate it from a story-telling point of view, because the heroes have always been the boys and hunters like them. If the angels came in an acted all Touched-By-An-Angel-y and performed miracles... it just wouldn't be the same show. I love Dean and Sam against all of Heaven and Hell.

I agree. Especially on Cortese.
It's not about Cassidy being a better actress, it's just that Cortese's supposed to be the same character and, well, she simply isn't. Cortese said in an interview that Ruby has changed as a person but from a fun, bubbly, albeit dark person to annoying, boring funsponge with entirely different mannerisms? I don't think so. She simply was a bad pick by casting directors who otherwise are doing a fantastic job. I mean, due to the nature of the show it often happens that the same character is played by different people and all of them (except for Cortese) have been spot on.

I don't want to spoil anything but we'll talk after you've seen "After School Special" 😉

I totally agree with that you've said here.

I'm having hard time adjusting to this new Ruby. I don't like her way of speaking, and she doesn't have the chemistry Cassidy did with Sam. *sigh* I can deal with her, I don't hate her by any means...but yes, I agree that the actress change is distracting.

I can't wait to to see what Dean says when he find out that Sam has been hiding the fact that Ruby's alive from him. That in fact, Sam has been lying to him about it.

Sam and Ruby are up to something.

Question: I'm confused about Ruby. In the Season 3 finale, we distinctly saw the demon leave Ruby's body and her fall dead to the floor with Dean after the Hellhounds got him. So, how come she's alive and how come she's a demon again?

*Ahem* Sorry, moving on.

I didn't have a problem adjusting to the new Ruby, mostly because I loved Cortese, but also because, in the past, we have seen countless demons inhabiting new bodies, Lilith, Crowley, Meg, Azezeal, and not one of the actors took mannerisms from the actor who played the character before them. Jared certainly didn't when he was possessed by Meg. So, I didn't have a problem with that aspect of it. I DID, however, have a problem with replacing Cassidy in the first place, and changing the appearance of the character so dramatically.

I haven't watched the S3 finale for a long time, I'm currently just starting S3 again, but as far as I can remember, Lilith forced Ruby out of the body she was inhabiting and took over, yes? So, Ruby was sent back to Hell, but she clawed her way out again, and into the body of the coma girl.

Well, with Lilith and Meg and the others, they didn't really have personalities like Ruby. Meg, maybe, but Sam acted sufficiently "demon-like" and talked in a way that was not-Sam enough, so I bought it. But with Yellow Eyes (I'll always prefer that to Azezeal, hah), the actors always had a very specific mannerism and way of talking that was consistent.
 
Tonight's episode of Supernatural was one of the best 😀. I was not expecting that twist near the end when ... you know who showed up in John's body (Sorry I dunno how to do that spoiler thing ::huh1:🙂.
Also I was sooo happy that Mary said "Angels are watching over you" I was waiting the entire episode for her to say it because it's what she said she used to say to Dean when he was a kid in the epsiode 'What Is And What Should Never Be'.
