Supernatural (TV Show)

I thought folk only watched it in season one for their car, do they still drive it?

Yes. Baby even has her own eps.

There is a bit of crossover with buffy, so Im sometimes surprised that so many buffy fans actively hate it and try to turn others off it. Seems weird cos its a real fun show at times and I'd love others to share in the fun!

I love Dean sooo much, and not just in a sexy way. His perseverance is endearing. The storylines are entertaining, if not heartbreaking, and the whole thing has a comforting feel having been in my life so long now.

Its just easy, entertaining viewing and thats exactly what I am after when i put this show on. Easy on the eyes too 😉

I love supernatural but up to a point. I usually just say if you’re getting bored stop watching because it does t get better. I haven’t watched past season 11 (besides the Scooby Doo episode) and even then I forced myself to watch season 11 and it just makes you like it less. They do have a lot of fun episodes though!

I did find season 11 slow, but loved 12 onwards, so for me it did get better.
The end of 14 was amazing, and I can't wait for 15.

I hadn’t really enjoyed it much past season 7, but I might carry on at some point. Just not yet.

I think most shows ebb and flow. Supernatural isn't top quality through out but few shows are. Plus, its not aiming to be more than it is, it never claims to be a masterpiece. A 15 year run is very good for this genre. I love the characters so I'd watch them through everything (and pull the piss when appropriate). Sure, if viewers get bored, leave it and come back. It doesn't mean you have to write off an interest just cos you got bored once. I got bored of Agents of Shield too and then season 4 was right up my alley so I am glad I gave it more than a few chances. If someone hates Sam and Dean, then yeah, they are probably going to hate the show, but it covers so many storylines over 15 seasons that if you enjoy the genre there is likely something you will like in it, a few times. Its not one that has to be consumed all at once and if you know the basic idea you can come in and out of it at any time. I love shows like that. I look forward to rewatch threads on it cos its not hard to drop in and out of - you dont have to be glued to every single episode and know it off by heart to engage in discussion.

I like the later seasons, I like the show. It has many different appeals. I'd have preferred they had run a few of the storylines on a bit longer but I guess their aim is to leave fans wanting more. I know I still want more. Season 15 will be fun!

I mean, it did kind of switch to another genre part way through but I guess.

I find most people who are in the supernatural fandom are like that, but there comes a point to me where it isn't worth it anymore. I love Sam and Dean as characters, I just kind of wanted someone to kill them off for good so they could rest. I'm usually more driven by the plot than the characters themselves - although being in a TV show they should probably be good characters since they carry the show.

Yeah but I watched about 4 seasons when I didn't really like it because people kept telling me it picks up... it did not. I'm not saying it's bad but overall it doesn't get better than the first 5 seasons. If it takes more than 2 seasons to pick up I usually drop it (otherwise there are many shows I would have dropped very quickly).

I'm not going to keep watching it in hopes I will like the odd episode, that would be a complete waste of my time.

I originally started watching when season 11 was running on TV I didn't love it, but it was ok if there was nothing else to do. I'm glad I watched it though, as without it I wouldn't have seen the first 5 seasons.

I have a few issues with Supernatural - the first being the change in genre because I love the first seasons of the show, I'm a big horror fan so the more biblical theology and less horror I got increasingly more bored - that was the reason my parents stopped watching too. The second, continuously killing characters and bringing them back because I just didn't care anymore (like seriously, how many times have the Winchesters died?). I think when I decided it had worn off its charm on me was when I watched an episode of season 12 or 13 and characters who had died seasons a go were randomly back, that and I wasn't a big fan of the whole men of letters thing. The overall arcs seemed to get a bit boring after season 5 too, as in it just felt more and more random, I did enjoy their monster of the week type episodes past season 5 though for the most part.

I mean, it did kind of switch to another genre part way through but I guess.

No it doesn't. It adds on to where it began. It's catch line is "saving people, hunting things, the family business" , it continues this throughout the entire 14 seasons so far.

but you did?

The show doesn't have to be watched in its entity to be enjoyed. That is why it is such a great one for fans to discuss. Viewers can choose a standalone without having to see the rest to get it. Its how its managed such a long run. I think some of the best standalones of the horror genre have been in the last few seasons. Mint Condition was one of my all time faves.

Discussing episodes of tv is what I come to forums for, no one has to see the entire series in order to discuss a standalone episode. There are quite a few bits non viewers would be familiar with. Its all in fun. You don't like the show, you dont want to watch the show, you dont want other people to watch the show, so why do you want to keep discussing it?

Its not going to be for all people, its not made for all people, at this stage it is made for the fans that do still enjoy it.

The second, continuously killing characters and bringing them back because I just didn't care anymore (like seriously, how many times have the Winchesters died?).

Its really an ongoing joke. We know the boys and the fan faves will always come back in some form or another. Buffy died twice. I enjoy that the team think of the thrill the fans get from seeing a character they miss - or an actor they have had the chance to meet. The convention circuit really helps a show like this and they are such a fun event for people who enjoy that stuff. It has an appeal for many people. It doesnt have to appeal to all people.

my parents stopped watching too

I just realised this show is probably as old as you? That sort of explains a lot as to why you dont like it and want to keep arguing that its not worth it. It was written to a formula aimed at people twice your age. That sort of tv is outdated in the netflix world. If people like the horror/demon hunting stuff without being too graphic, there is a good chance there is something in this show for them. If they dont like supernatural stuff, then yeah, dont bother. I just find it really odd that Buffy fans hate so hard on a show that features a bunch of similar actors, themes, and fandom fun. Sometimes I wonder if SPN fans are the only ones who dont take everything on tv totally and completely seriously. I grew up on soapies. This show is perfect for me. Why the hate?

It does shift not completely to a new thing, but horror element does become less and less apparent which used to be a large part of the show.
but you did?
I was watching it while I did my EPQ project (which required a lot of painting so I watched it at the same time), I watched it for about a season after that before I stopped. And also because I don't like not finishing things.
I think some of the best standalones of the horror genre have been in the last few seasons.
Ooh, tell me which ones, (past season 11) and I'll give them a shot.
You don't like the show, you dont want to watch the show, you dont want other people to watch the show, so why do you want to keep discussing it?
I do like the show, I've said this hundreds of times, I love supernatural - just not the later seasons, I made my friends watch it, I do like Supernatural. I like discussing shows end of, I'll discuss the episodes of Buffy or Lost I don't like, they're some of my favourite shows and even those aren't great all the time.
Its really an ongoing joke. We know the boys and the fan faves will always come back in some form or another. Buffy died twice. I enjoy that the team think of the thrill the fans get from seeing a character they miss
I think it works well in the comedic episodes, but when it's supposed to be dramatic, I'm just kind of like "Am I supposed to care?"
Buffy died twice.
And if she died a third time and came back I probably wouldn't care.
The convention circuit really helps a show like this and they are such a fun event for people who enjoy that stuff. It has an appeal for many people. It doesnt have to appeal to all people.
I do agree with that, I don't think they'll stop when the show finishes, they all seem to have such likeable personalities and have a great turn out.
I just realised this show is probably as old as you? That sort of explains a lot as to why you dont like it and want to keep arguing that its not worth it.
I'm not, people just keep responding so I respond back. I like supernatural. If I hated it I wouldn't have watched 11 seasons, I didn't like the later ones because it felt boring or repetitive.
It was written to a formula aimed at people twice your age.
I would agree, but the biggest portion of fans are between 18-29 and the TV shows I tend to like are usually around 10-15 years old, so I don't believe that is the problem, because again, I love the first 5 seasons of Supernatural. And to be fair, it's original targeted audience are nothing like the audience they have now.
I just find it really odd that Buffy fans hate so hard on a show that features a bunch of similar actors, themes, and fandom fun. Sometimes I wonder if SPN fans are the only ones who dont take everything on tv totally and completely seriously.
I don't because again, I like Supernatural. Also, just because they are similar doesn't mean everyone will enjoy them, I like Jurassic park, does it mean I like every film/show about people vs dinosaurs? No. They are similar in terms of a big supernatural element, as well as family being centre, but Buffy doesn't really go deep into biblical theology like Supernatural - which is one of the things I didn't like about it. I used to be quite active in the fandom too, a few fans got hostile towards me for not shipping Destiel and the amount of creepy fan fiction I've come across made me want to leave, a loud minority of the fans are really over the top and I didn't want to deal with it anymore. If I was going to name a fandom that is fun and aren't serious, it wouldn't be Supernatural. A lot of shows/movies/books/artists don't have the best fandoms.
Why the hate?
I don't hate Supernatural. In fact, I'm a big fan, just the later stuff I didn't like, the same way a lot of Buffy fans don't like the last 2 seasons that much.

I'm not, people just keep responding so I respond back

You were the one who quoted me, if one is replying to the quote bits - it's me responding to you... mostly I am pretty bored of this now. I think we've established our separate stances on it.

We've obviously had very different experiences of the show. I got into it just as Buffy ended on free to air tv. It filled the gap (and timeslot) that Buffy left. Both have deep theological concepts, that is what attracts me personally to both shows. ALL of my real life friends who like Supernatural have stuck with it the entire time, the fanbase now is some of the same people it attracted when it started. The people who picked it up or were born along the way are bonuses! The convention pictures are hanging in my wall of fan. Its a laugh riot. We always have something to discuss when we catch up, we encourage each other to keep up with it. I havent personally encountered too many mental fans, although I have heard about them, and if you think spn fanfic is weird, you obviously never read Twific 😉 Or any of the comments on The 100 casts social media....

I prefer the later season to the beginning seasons. The horror effects remain similar, so once a viewer is accustomed to them they do not elicit such a scare response. This is why I am able to stick with it, they dont push my boundaries of fear and I can watch it safely knowing nothing will haunt me in my dreams. It would turn off the fans it initially appealed to if it kept upping the ante on horror and gore. Everyone seems to find different monsters scary - for me the worst are witches. James and Charismas ep was a standout for me, I'd love to see them again in s15! The spell episodes were a trip and somehow Lucifer just gets creepier and creepier, even after he dies. The humour is my kind of thing. I will never stop laughing at the themes in season 7, they are so true! I love the rants the evil beings go on cos I go on similar. Its a fun show, I dont hold it to a strict standard of how it should please me and I get to enjoy the ride. Lucky me 🙂

Yeah me too actually.

I'd love to go to a convention, but alas, living in the british countryside means a long journey haha.

I'll definitely check some of the more horror orientated episodes of the later season out, I just didn't want to watch 66 episodes for a few good ones. I don't take supernatural seriously, I've never tried to pick apart the continuity or deep theories or anything like that - it's just not that kind of show. God, a lot of shows I like are aimed specifically at 12 year olds and don't go beyond pure entertainment.. But there will always be a chance, when a show runs as long as Supernatural has, that it changes and you fall out of love with it.

This was too much negativity for today, so I want to say some things that I really enjoyed about it.

Firstly Dean's car is really sexy, I love it so much!
I love how both Sam and Dean stick together through anything, it's a really sweet sibling relationship.
I like how they acknowledge their fanbase, they are such funny episodes, but also slightly weird.
Crowley, I remember seeing the actor playing a dead serial killer in something and his personality was kind of similar and that was great!
The Megatron joke makes me cry everytime I hear it.
Lots of fun and different monsters, there really is a lot and it was really interesting to see, and it means there are some insanely creepy ones.
The soundtrack is amazing, honestly one of the best out there, and also one of the only time I've heard Goth Rock in movies or TV in a goth club, stunned but happy (Bela Lugosi's Dead is such a jam).
The Scoobynatural episode has to be one of my favourite episodes of TV of all time, that was incredible, I hope they do another crossover episode in season 15.
The end of season three was an emotional roller coaster and I loved every second of it.

I could never be an actor. Especially if I was over 40

I love acting but it’s way too intense for me to want a career in it.
Season 14 comes out on dvd tomorrow, I would like to rewatch it before the new season next month, but I know I won't have time.

I cant believe the last season is so soon!! I sort of got used to shows taking 2 years between seasons and having only 12 -16 eps haha. The SPN serial format kept me sated all year long! I am going to miss it when it ends. I wonder what it is like for actors to lose their characters after so long, if it feels like an aspect of their lives is missing.

I dont know if I should bother trying to avoid spoilers for s15. I'd rather go into it unspoiled, but avoiding spoilers for this show is harder than most for me.

So I have only watched a few episodes of SPN with Buffy stars. (One with Amber Benson and one with James and Charisma 😂😂😂)
But currently I am on youtube and watching many SPN panels on comic cons and I really like it, it's so funny😂😂 And I'm watching some fan videos of Destiel... 😂😂💕
And videos with funny moments and Felicia Day scenes...
Yeah, so I seem to really like those, but I'm still not sure if I wanna watch 15 seasons!!!!😅
What do you guys say? Would you recommend to watch all episodes? Or can you tell me some episodes that I need to watch? Also I NEED to know which episode it is, where they read fanfiction about themselves and talk about ship names etc! It's hilariouse!!!!😂😂😂
And btw why I'm making such a big deal about starting a show is because I have to buy all DVDs then cause I don't have netflix or anything like that.
But anyways at least I love the SPN conventions on YouTube😂😂😂

SPN is a wonderful show! Dean is one of my all-time favorite TV characters. Dean and Sam have a fascinating dynamic and so much chemistry together!

I watched through Season 10, but 1-5 are my favorites. Definitely worth watching all the way through!

Thanks❤
I've been reading a Btvs/SPN crossover fanfiction lately (haven't finished it yet) and I love it! 🙂
Which one? What's it about?

You should read Living as Lenore, which is Tara-centric and has her being reborn as the vampire she played on SPN. They have it at Twisting the Hellmouth.
