I can definitely relate to this. I talk to my elderly mother daily. She does the same thing everyday so sometimes we struggle with what to talk about.

This is what I mean, the everyday routine so nothing new to talk about.

My dad is now in his houseplant era! So he's been telling me about how much the plants have grown and which need new pots etc.

I talk to my dad a lot about cars and driving and road conditions, now I don’t really care about cars or any of the above, but I’ve learned to take an interest for the sake of conversation.

So embrace the houseplants, that’s what I say! 😂 My dad’s houseplant era was brief, which is good, cause I might be even less interested in that than cars

Also, it took him a while, but he has now made the reciprocal effort by asking to borrow my Plato books so we can discuss philosophy this summer. Which is cute.

It depends on who the person is that I haven’t seen. But usually we have common interests. We talk about things we know the other enjoys. Maybe what we’ve shared on our Instagram stories (I’m a chronic reposter of things on my story lol). I always make it a point to ask whoever I’m talking to, even if it’s only been a day, how they are doing. That way anything new that has come up in their lives is instantly spilled to me lol
