The Buffyreboot is dead for now...

But see Joss himself refused to even take part in the movie to begin with. They offered him a chance, but he turned it down. He was so wrapped up with The Avengers and plus, given that the first time that he colloborated with Fran Rubel Kazui and Kaz Kazui for the original film, they twisted his vision. So I doubt that he will do anything else with the Buffyverse. IMO, the story has been told.

But did he turn it down because of scheduling or because he didn't want to be involved in it? I know he wasn't pleased with the end results of the first movie, but after the shows and comics success I would imagine that if he were to be involved in the reboot he would have much much more creative license. Also, from my understanding it wasn't going to be adding too the story, but simply remaking the 1992 film.

That's great news IMO. That reboot might have ruined the show's name. Could go either way, but if there is a risk of making the show look bad, I wouldn't want to take that risk. Now, if that was Joss's and with SMG, I'm all for it. But not this way.

If YouTube was big back then there would be clips of Kirsty Swanson saying rebooting Buffy as a TV show is the dumbest idea ever.

Also maybe someone should jump back to 2001 and tell Sarah it's a stupid idea to do a Scooby Doo Movie, as the original creators aren't involved.

Honestly, when thinking Scooby Doo do you think cartoon or Sarah's movie? Water under the bridge, but I am glad the reboot is being shut down for now.
Meh, I was never excited about the reboot, so I'm OK with this newest [un]development. The Kuzui's appear to have done very little since the original Buffy movie (in the U.S. anyway), and I didn't even like that movie to begin with (or rather, their interpretation of Joss' script & ideas). As far as a comparison to Star Trek, the Kuzuis are no JJ Abrams!!

If you're a true fan of the show, then nothing outside of it can change your opinion of it. It's its own entity and that can never be changed, no matter what. It is its own amazing thing.

While the thought of the reboot possibly ruining the reputation of the show sure is horrible, it's amazing how many people think the reputation has already been ruined with season 6 and 7. Articles and press all say the same thing. Or that "Buffy was great in it's glory days" (the high school years). It seems that no matter where I go, it's the same story. Like the general consensus is that Buffy was this once great show, that got ruined due to sloppy and ridiculous writing later on. To some people, the deed has already been done, which is sad in itself.

I want a Buffy re-boot. A badass, bold, entertaining blockbuster that will make more money than Ipod. I want Buffy to be huge again, to be as popular as the Goddamn Batman, I want four ongoing comic books, novels, video games and a truckload of merchandise. I couldn't care lees who's to write it.

Sure, the movie may suck. And so what? A mediocre movie is still better than a slow descent into obscurity. Also, it's not like it could be worse than the recent canon offerings - one simply cannot cram so much nonsense into a feature length.

You have a point, EVIL UU. But what everyone has to remember is that if the Kuzui's do it without Joss, they only have access to the material from the original movie. So, no Sunnydale, no Willow/Xander/Angel/Spike/Giles, etc etc. It would be very different from what we're used to. I'm not saying that different is necessarily a bad thing. I'm saying that the Kuzui's are the "bad thing". I just don't think they have it in them to make a good movie. And so I disagree Evil UU- I do care about the quality. As I'm sure Star Trek fans would have been if the reboot sucked.

I'm stoked, I can't lie! But a reboot isn't necessarily a terrible idea, though. I just don't want one just yet. Say in another ten years, or 20.

I think every fan should be happy that there is such demand for Buffy, though. It's a great show, and recognition is always good. I'm certainly very proud here.

Not mine. I was talking about people who never watched the show and thought it was bad even though all the good things they hear about it from the media and other people, now they would watch the movie just because it's a vampires show, and think the show is the same, which we know it wouldn't have been.

Who cares what people outside the fandom think? I like the show, and someone not liking it based on a different take that's not it, doesn't concern me. And it shouldn't concern anyone else. It belongs to US. And noone else.

I'm relieved, I'm not a big fan of reboots, especially without involvment of original creator or cast so I don't mind at all this not being made. The word "yay" comes to mind in fact.

But they just own some Buffy rights, they're not going to write it or direct it, most likely they are not going to be involved at all. Seriously, there are better film screenwriters and directors than Joss Whedon, I'd like to see a fresh take on Buffy.

I would say that while Joss is still running the series - in any kind of format - any reboot will pretty much be considered a hack - and a bad one at that by the fandom and by extension by the executives @ FOX. Nobody starts a reboot while the original creator is (1) still alive and is (2) actively involved. Once the comics series are over then maybe. I do not think it will happen any time soon. Add the Avengers money factor - and it might be like somebody would decided to start the Star Wars series reboot without involving George Lucas.

Actually, George Lucas owns the rights to Star Wars, so he has final approval. Joss does not own Buffy.

Oh, you did not just compare GEORGE LUCAS to Joss Whedon. The show ended over eight years ago. It's time to either put up or shut up. Either Joss makes a film that's a sequel to the series, or he allows the concept move on into a possibly better version. Hell, I'd take possibly better, over nothing.

Everyone is allowed to their own opinions, and if someone wants to try to compare Joss Whedon to George Lucas to try and prove their point, they're allowed to do so. Please refrain from being so confrontational in your replies.

As much as I feel ambiguous and often angry over the comics, they are not 'nothing'. They are different media. And I have to disagree with you over your opinion of Whedon. Much as I don't like late Whedon starting from BtVS S6 and on, the man still has his moments of greatness.

"Moments" aren't good enough.

Hmm, I guess that's not how I read it- I read it that they're going to be very involved, at least as involved as the original movie. And certainly not "involved in name only" as in the TV series.
