Did anyone else wonder why another Slayor wasn't called up when Buffy died at the end of Season 6?

I know Faith was called up cos Kendra died and Kendra was called up cos Buffy died in Season 1 but she died twice so shouldn't another slayer be born then? If not that would mean that Buffy was no longer the chosen one and that Faith is.

Well technically Buffy died three times: Prophecy Girl, The Gift and Villains(she flatlined).

Also after Buffy's first death the slayer line shifted to Kendra and next to Faith leaving Faith the only one who could pass along the powers of the slayer.

It's quite possible that something happened to Buffy when she was resurrected in the beginning of S6 by the scoobies that allowed the slayer line to pass through her once again but it's never officially discussed.

Buffy does say in S7 that she believes a new slayer will be called upon her death...unfortunately we do not see if this ever occurred. And even if a slayer was called upon her "death" at the end of s6, they might have been killed quickly by a Bringer as they had probably started their plan of killing off all potentials/slayers by then.

Or I'm just talking out my ass...again...

I think Faith's the chosen one. Buffy's just being full of her self when she's holding those long speeches about her being the chosen one in season 7. She just can't deal with the fact that Faith's the slayer and when she dies, another one will be called.

Its weird I've only been here since July and I've seen this debate atleast a half dozen times..possibly more.

And now you're going to see it again...

People have to stop this. They have to stop mentioning the "Buffy said her death would create another slayer" thing, without mentioning the fact it wasn't just she who said it.

It's one of those cases where a half-truth is a lie.

If only Buffy had said it, then yeah, you could write it off, but it wasn't just Buffy.

It was Dawn and Anya in Potential:

"Dawn is struck by another heavy thought, and it drives her down into a chair again.

DAWN
She has to die. I mean, if I ever
was the Slayer it would mean she died.

ANYA
Yes, it's like being the pope that
way. Only you don't have be some old
Catholic."

The First as Caleb says it in Chosen.

CALEB/FIRST
'Cause he can't help you. Nor Faith,
nor your friends... certainly not
your little wannaslay brigade. None
of those girlies will ever know real
power unless you're dead. You know
the drill:

Joss Whedon wrote Chosen. He knows.

Season 7 clearly says if Buffy dies another slayer is called. In Chosen Beljoxa's eye suggests there is a "disruption in the Slayer Line" that has changed things, although the exact thing that has been changed is never precisely determined for us.

What we don't know is how long this has been in effect, and does it also affect the slayer line passing through Faith. In Season 7 the line may pass through both slayers, but based on what the text offers us in S-7 it seems difficult if not impossible to say the line does not now run at least through Buffy.

I honestly think it had something to do with the spell that was used to bring Buffy back. It may have had regenerative properties that not only restored her life, but her place in the slayer line.

But what about after The GIft? She was only dead for a few seconds in Prophecy Girl and here comes Kendra. The Gift she was dead for a few months before they resurrected her and nothing. At this point there was no flux in the slayer line and yet no slayer was called. People like to bring up the fact that in Season 7 Joss wrote various episodes and not just Buffy said she had to die for another slayer to be called but let's not forget that Joss always was involved with Buffy. This is a very vital part of this story and the fact that NO slayer was called after The Gift says something is off, askew, changed.

If that's true, that it had something to do with the spell (which in my mind just isn't, cause maybe I'm in denyal or I'm just a harcore faith fan... or both), it's really unfair to Faith. I mean sure, the name of the show is/was BUFFY the vampire slayer and of course she has to be the one and blah blah no matter who she might run over doing it.
At least in my heart, Faith's the chosen one. punto. 😀

I just don't get people sometimes, you know. I mean the text of Season 7 clearly says the slayer line passes at least through Buffy at that point, but there's a certain type of Buffy fan that just refuses to believe what's written in the scripts. What's really hilarious is you could tell the same people, you heard the fact of the slayer line from a friend, who read it on a site, where someone who was at a convention heard Jeff Bell talking about something Joss Whedon said, and then they'd believe you. 😀

Think I'm exagerating? Check this one out:

Very true
Or Maybe ........NEW THEORY There wasn't a slayer called after The Gift because there was Buffy Bot...yeah! And whatever power that calls a new slayer was fooled by Buffy Bot and that's why no new slayer AND going deeper into that we know the slayer was originally made through demon spirits SO since the evil people were under the impression that buffy was still alive because of Buffy Bot perhaps those that guard/call the slayer line are really evil...so YEAH! Try and take THAT theory apart nerd4hire!

If you insist. The theory is attempting to be humourous, correct? - It's not.

Well I found it amusing and Cordelia that's all that matters. I'm sure your sourpuss "im the only right person" theories are comforting to you in times like these when people are enjoying themselves and daring not to bow down to your allmighty knowledge or perhaps you'd feel better to start another "troll" thread? 😀

Anyway, to get back on topic... I believe the question was,
"Did anyone else wonder why another Slayer wasn't called up when Buffy died at the end of Season 6?"

I would answer, "yeah I do". Especially since Season 7 clearly says the slayer line passes at least through Buffy at that time.

I'm thinking though that maybe the disruption in the slayer line didn't actually begin until after Buffy was resurrected.

Anya says as much in Showtime.

I've always thought it was like doppelgänger (and many others) said, that the slayer line now goes through Faith.. And that there are just a lot of mistakes in season 7. But, is it possible they made that lot of mistakes..?

Maybe, the line is through both Faith and Buffy now (so that there'll always be at least two slayers). And that after Buffy's death (in The Gift), the slayer who was called was the new Buffy, the resurected Buffy. That the powers went into her (again). And she became a new slayer. (Ok, I know some time passed between her death and her coming-back-to-life.. It was just a thought.)

People will have to explain something to me.

Why is it a mistake if S-7 says the line now passes at least through Buffy now, but it's not a mistake when the line can pass through to a thousand girls at the end to Chosen.

I think she's indicating that her beliefs about the slayer line are not the same as what season 7 states and she thinks it a mistake...just opinion stuff...
