The only good thing about this was SMG singing. And possible the outtake at the end.
 
I really liked it, it's not as great as some of the other 30 min comedies out there at the moment (Parks and Red, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Modern Family) but it's better then a lot of the others (Two and a half men, Dads, The Neighbors).

It was very much a David E. Kelly show, it had a lot of emotions, maybe to much - it tried to move from comedy to emotional way to often and way to fast, so it didn't pull it off like Scrubs used to. It might have worked better as a 40 min show, more in line with Boston Legal, still based in a serious show but with heavy crazy zany comedy.

Hopefully it was just the pilot and they'll calm down a bit on trying to squeeze everything in.

I'm glad they kept Sarah as the serious straight laced one, I think Robin and James are would be better as the comedy so the balance worked well.

The supporting characters were very forgettable, which is a pity, cuz supporting characters in other 30 mins shows have been killing it recently - this felt more like a regular sitcom, which it was probably always going to be, being on CBS, but with the exception of Big Bang it's one of their better comedies especially compared to their other new one this year Mom.

Sarah was great, I'd love to know some behind the scenes stuff, it's always said she comes to work knowing all her lines and wanting to do her job, I'd love to know how she works with improv, I'd have though she'd hate working with someone like Williams.
She felt much better in this role then in Ringer.

Sarah's first professional acting job was at age 5 (I think) in a Burger King commercial. That commercial was the first time that a specific competitor's name was ever mentioned. McDonald's sued Burger King for a huge amount of money, and, because she was the actor in the commercial, little Sarah was included in the law suit.

I've no idea what I think about this show after this first episode.

It had a few moments that was kinda funny, I guess, but I'm not sure what to expect of it in future episodes.
Still worried that Robin Willams will be a bit too much Robin Williams for my taste if you know what I mean...

I was thinking about the BK commercials during the show lol. I was just picturing little SMG saying how excited she was for BK even though it wasn't her birthday or Christmas lol.
 
Wow the second episode was so much better then the first (and I liked the first).

The pacing between emotion and story was spot on, felt very similar to Ally McBeal and Boston Legal, without feeling smushed into 30mins.

I really enjoyed it. That scene were Andrew came out of the elevator with the ducks following him, I love the over the top humor - its what made Ally McBeal and Boston Legal so brilliant - but I didn't believe it in the Pilot, but this episode was so much more comfortable.

Also the outtakes at the end were great, I hope they end every episode with outtakes!
 
1.02 Spectacular - Aired 10/3/13

Simon encourages Sydney to take on an ad campaign for Windy City Coffee, but disaster endures. Zach is jealous when Simon asks Andrew to take care of a family of ducklings.

So I didn't watch this episode, because some moron put TCO up against The Originals. So I won't be seeing any more episodes unless it makes it to reruns, or unless Reign ends up being really really bad. FAIL.

I agree, second episode was a lot better and I also enjoyed the first. This episode was funnier to me and the flow was more natural. SMG was amazing in it.

And Buffy Summers, do you have on demand? I'm catching the Originals on Demand. I HAD to watch Vampire Diaries and the Crazy Ones.

I did not like the first one, but the second was so much better. I still don't think it's an especially strong show. To me, it feels somewhere in between a generic 90s "family" sitcom and a grownup version of Disney/Nick-style series--neither of which have I watched much of in the past decade 😛

I can't speak to AM, but I don't think this can be compared to Boston Legal. BL was one of the most clever shows I've ever seen, this is more childish in its humor. That said, it was probably a necessary departure, because I caught two episodes of Harry's Law, and it felt like Kelley was self-plagiarizing.

I love that sort of humor too! ...but I like it when there's a clever core behind it--like Boston Legal, or even 30 Rock. I haven't seen much of that here.
 
I hope SMG is satisfied with the work she did on Buffy, because The Crazy Ones completely misses the mark as a comedy, drama or anything resembling entertainment. I saw the episode about her learning to drive and not much of it was worth watching - and I am a SMG fan. I'm not saying she can't act - I am saying this is not the show to resuscitate her career.

Hopefully she can move on to something more worthy of her talents.

The last line of episode 3 being "Sunnydale" was classic 🙂

That aside, I have to agree, though SMG being the least of them. Overall, Robin Williams must be one of the top grossing comedic actors in history. Hamish Linklater is coming off big supporting roles in two Emmy winning TV series, Old Christine and Newsroom.

Then you have James Wolk, who some critics have predicted as a potential next-generation George Clooney. No idea about Amanda Setton, but she's one of the more attractive actresses on TV.

The fact is, it's an amazingly strong cast for a TV series. It's hard to believe they even signed the lesser know stars for such poor material. It really does seem to be written in the Disney/Nickelodeon-style, which seems a bizarre choice given a cast that must be extremely pricey for television.
 
Yeah Sarah is the weakest part of this series.

Robin has much better chemistry with James and Hamish, and the jealously triangle between the 3 of them in last weeks episode was much better then Robin and Sarahs story this episode.

They had two scenes were they talked over each other which was supposed to be... cute(?), it just felt awkward and clunky. Sarahs too rigid for Robin, she works as the straight women to the comedy but not heavily intertwined with it.

Didn't like this episode at all, took a real dive after last weeks which I really enjoyed.

Other then Buffy and Cruel Intentions Sarah doesn't really get much credit for other work so I disagree, I think this show is probably going to be one of her most successful career decisions(other then Buffy), I think Sarah is limited as an actress and has made some very bad career decisions, some of her movies are awful, wanting to get out of the Sci-Fy world to not be pigeon holed then returning to TV for Ringer?
And this show is doing very well in the ratings, and is already being predicted for renewal

I agree about those crosstalk scenes, but overall, the show needs a straight-person. Look at Seinfeld, the star himself was the straight man and it worked wonderfully.

Even if this does get renewed, I'd be pretty shocked if it made a full 3rd season. It's just bad for such a strong cast.

I don't know what SMG did wrong. Look at her hubby, the most bankable young star of his era, and now he can't find work. I get the feeling SMG chooses projects based on the rest of the casting as opposed to scripts.

That movie she did with Alec Baldwin was mediocre despite him being extremely talented.

Veronika Decides to Die was painfully poorly made, imo, even though her costar Jonathan Tucker is the best relatively unknown young actor around, imo.

It's funny for me, because long before SMG worked with either of them, if you asked me the two most talented, obscure young male actors, I would've said Jonathan Tucker and James Wolk. Now SMG has worked opposite the both!
 
I think the show is getting better with each episode that passes. I thought last nights was hilarious, and I loved the chemistry between Robin and Sarah. She's doing an amazing job in my opinion.
 
Yeah, so far this show doesn't really seem to be my kind of thing.
Robin Williams babbling can be a bit tedious at times.
Don't mind SMG work though. Think the character works pretty well for her.

Each episodes have a moment or two that gives me a smile but not much more.
Will probably keep watching it as a background for the time being, it's a quite easy watch after all.

I'm not to big on the crazy ones but I do keep watching it just for Sarah but really not getting how its gonna last... I think Ringer was way better but it does have little laughs here and there in the crazy ones just hope it gets better!!!
 
Great show! I love Sarah, obviously. I don't think this show has potential to be cancelled, because it will bring in amazing ratings. It is the first time in 30 years Robin Williams has been on TV and Buffy is finally back in full force. People will turn into the show even if it's crap because of the names..

Anybody see the bloopers in the third episode when Simon asks Sydney where she learned that Dukes of Hazzard thing and Sydney so swiftly and confidently replies with "Sunnydale" and walked away? I almost peed myself!
