The Depth of Adam

I liked the concept and character of Adam, but really wanted more. I wanted more depth, more exploring of the depth of the character Adam.

Adam is such an interesting character - a former agent of the Initiative who was "reborn" as a mechanized being remeniscent of the creation of Frankenstein's monster. I just felt there was so much that could be done with this "big bad" that wasn't. I wish there was more, more discussion, more episodes about Adam, just more backstory or use of this interesting character concept.

Did I say more enough time? Did anyone else feel the same way?
 
My thoughts exactly. I basically just love hearing Adam talking, he has this really amazing childlike sense of wonder (he even kills a child just out of curiosity).
Unfortunately his story was a little...aimless I guess? Until near the end of the season, he was never the focus or even a 'medium' part of an episode.
 
I never liked Adam I second what Username said. The less of him the better.
That poor adorable little boy 🙁 *cries*

The only thing about Adam I liked was that I got the completely obvious parallel between him and Frankenstein's monster because I had just read Frankstein like the previous year. I was all Ohh yay I get that! lol.
 
Yeah, Adam was a bit shit in my opinion. A floppy disc drive?! I can't get over that.

But it was kinda cool how we got to see what Adam looked like when he was human during the dreams sequences in Restless. 😛

I don't know, I'm fine with the fact that he didn't get much of a storyline. I wasn't really interested in what he had to say. It's his style that I didn't like. I didn't like his grand plan or what he was. I love season 4 very much. But he is the part that simply doesn't get my interest.
 
I hated Adam. Sorry excuse for a big bad! We would have been better off without him. I don't think deepening his character or anything like that would have changed much. Probably would have made me hate him even more, and I'm not sure that's even possible 😛
 
Lots of hate for Adam. I think if they had developed him differently, he could have been a very interesting character. It's too bad.

Yeah, if they made him a different kind of evil, give him different lines, give him another look, and make him all... not him, but someone else completely, yeah, that would have made him a better character 😀
 
I liked the idea of the Initiative (I mean, we have to assume the government knows what's going on!), but I would've liked it much more if Maggie Walsh would've been further developed as the Big Bad, rather than Adam.

Yeah. I would be more interested in seeing Maggie Walsh as the Big Bad with Adam as her henchman. I thought the conflicts between Buffy and Walsh especially when Riley was thrown into the mix were very good.

I'm completely with you on that MRNewman! I always thought they didn't have enough focus on him in season 4. I mean, come on... He was barely in 6 eps, and some of them he had a two or three minute scene. And that's the big bad?! I think they could have expanded on his *link* with Riley, and have him confront the Scoobies a few times before the big finish!

What would have been hilarious too(yes I'm a big Ethan fan) is if they kept Ethan in the plot and actually had him team up with Adam. 😀 That would have made for some really funny interactions/dialogues.

Although I've made my opinion known on Adam, ITA with you on Ethan. That's the last we see of him, & it's just not enough IMO. Also,
even though it was cool that he was brought back in season 8, it's too bad they kill him off.

Ethan reappeared for the first time in several years, acting as Buffy's guide in the "dreamspace," where he offered her cryptic messages about an approaching Twilight and showed her some of her more symbolic dreams. He also helped Buffy find a fragment of Amy Madison's "dreamspace" in order to find a memory to use against her.

While infiltrating a military installation two miles south of Sunnydale, Buffy attempted to break Ethan out of his cell, but instead found him dead, having been shot and apparently killed by General Voll, a member of the Twilight Group

With all the hate for Adam - I have to ask the basic question: What would have made Adam interesting enough for you to care about him / want to see more of him?

I think the concept of a "created" being that meshed different forms of life, based on a former Initiative recruit could have been interesting if done the right way. I think if he escaped and instead of being a genius, was just a creature trying to get his bearings...completely unsure of his surroundings, unsure of his purpose, unsure of what to do with the good Doctor being the real villian, could have been interesting. Even an ending where Adam realizes that he was created to be a weapon and have him destroy himself in an act of compassion...

Thoughts?

For my sake I really don't think there's anything. Adam to me was a stupid way of getting a take on a Frankenstein Monster but simplified x100. There was nothing complex about Adam - he was like an eloquent troll to me. He could talk the talk but all he really seemed wanting to do was crush, kill, destroy. He was boring simply put and since I find the whole idea rather inane I can't imagine it being saved (perhaps if they would have ripped off Frankenstein further and made him nice in spite of his apperance and had some other big bad)

I think if Adam had been made from a certain Initiative recruit by the name of 'Riley', he would probably be everyone's favorite Big Bad. Though I guess it would've made for an Angelus redux, not to mention Buffy didn't love Riley nearly as much as she did Angel.
Your idea sounds great though.

I guess the problem with Adam is that he was too rational. People (me included) love a villain like Glory because she's outrageous and batshit crazy.
