The applause for Joyce was almost deafening and Kean had to agree with her rapturous reception. There couldn't be a finer recipient of the Class Protector Award in all the Buffy-Boards. Beside her Lyri seemed to be getting more and more agitated. Lyri's introduction of Mr. Pointy was a little off"¦to say the least. Kean assumed Lyri was just emotional about giving up the Class Protector crown"¦she had won it the last too years running but would cause the audible gnashing of Lyri's teeth or the uncontrollable tremors that had overtaken Lyri's body. Kean's brow knitted in concern as she turned to put a comforting hand on Lyri's shoulder. She needed to get herself together and fast"¦they had a show to host after all.
However, before Kean knew what was happening Lyri shot from the wings and dashed across the stage. To Kean's utter horror she looked on as Lyri shoved Mr. P out of her, sending him flying into the audience with a crash that echoed off the walls. Kean grimaced"¦that had to have hurt. When she looked back to the podium Lyri and Joyce were in a tug of war, neither one relenting possession of the prize they both view as theirs. Vicious slurs were thrown back and forth that Kean couldn't quite make out through the din of B-Boards Dome. With a particularly savage tug and a swift kick to the shins that left Joyce as crumpled mess on the floor Lyri reclaimed her award. She paused for the shortest of seconds to turn and stick her tongue out at both Pointy and Joyce and then made a run for it across the other side of the stage. However, by then Kean was already dashing across the stage. That was easier said then done in Monolo's.
Skipping over the Joyce shaped heap in the middle of the stage Kean dived for her occasionally insane friend and sent the both of them tumbling to the floor. They hit the floor with an almighty thud, leaving bruises that Kean knew she would be feeling for a week. Lyri continued to kick and scream like a petulant four year old. By now the audience was going wild, chants of "LY-RI" and "JOY-CE" reverberated around the room. Out of the corner of her eye Kean saw Buffy and Faith racing from backstage. In seconds they had Lyri pinned to the floor despite her protestations. Kean took the Class Protector Award from Lyri's iron like grasp. Trying (uselessly) to retain some form of dignity and grace despite her rumpled dress and dishevelled hair Kean made her way, minus a shoe that she had lost is the scuffle, back over to Joyce who had gotten to her feet.
Kean hugged Joyce and apologised for Lyri"¦profusely.
"It's the meds, when she doesn't take them"¦" Kean trailed off, sweeping her arm out in the direction of Lyri as she was bodily removed from the stage, ""¦things like this happen."
Kean turned back to Joyce and smiled warmly.
"Congrats hun"¦enjoy it cuz you really deserve it". Kean turned and waved at the crowed sheepishly, leaving Joyce to bask in her glory and hoping that when she got backstage Lyri would no longer be psychotic and there would be a spare pair or shoes.
