So, The Gift was originally going to be the series' finale. How would you have liked that? Would you rather The Gift being the finale, or are you happy it was Chosen two seasons later?

I would have loved "The Gift" as the series finale. Mainly because I think "Chosen" is an awful ending, it's just some generic giant battle, and a unnecessary conversation with Angel (i'm a huge Angel fan, but that whole scene should have happened in the previous episode), Buffy deserved a better send-off than that crap...

I would HATE HATE HATE HATE it!!!!!!

BtVS had more to say, and they said it. Although there were some dud episodes in 6 and 7, there are some GREAT episodes too. OMWF is usually listed as one of the Top 5 BtVS episodes. That's enough to justify Seasons 6 and 7.

BTW, we're talking about this in hindsight. But we've "lived" it when it comes to Angel. Angel's Season 5 Finale is actually better than The Gift (IMHO), and Angel still had a lot to say. The thought of Angel ending after Season 5 still depresses the heck out of me.

Quite honestly, I don't understand how any BtVS fan could "wish" that BtVS ended after The Gift. I just don't get it.

Because the show couldn't handle it's characters. Giles and Xander were ruined in Seasons 6 and 7, they didn't have anything to do. Xander stood around and made jokes and Giles got written out of the show in a terrible way ("Hey Buffy, I know you just died and got resurrected...but i'm leaving"), they turned Giles into a jerk (something I didn't think was possible)

So I do "wish" Buffy ended with "The Gift". OMWF is amazing, I love it, but I don't think 1 episode can justify what happened to these once-great characters. And it sure as hell can not justify the "flying pile of garbage" that is Season 7

Side note, I do agree "Not Fade Away" is amazing 😀

I do get our points. But for me, Bad Buffy is better than just about anything else. :)

ANGEL's finale is so not better than The Gift.

I would've LOVED it. Not that I'm happy with Buffy dying... but it's just such an epic ending. I feel like her death doesn't make as much of an impact on repeated viewings when you know she's going to get brought back to life. With that said, I don't know how I'd be able to live without seeing "Once More, with Feeling". If they would've incorporated some of the stories/arcs that I liked into the previous seasons or switched season five and seven, I think it'd be perfect.

Yes it is. hehehe

NFA is definitely in my Top 3 Whedonverse episodes. It's probably tied with "The Body" as my favorite episode of television ever.

The Gift is pretty darn amazing, but it's not my favorite Buffy finale. My favorite has to do with a broken yellow crayon.

I don't agree with the Giles and s7 parts, but I do agree with the rest.

I thought the season finale of Angel was boring and rushed. Even Wesley's death felt like it could have been better.

No way it was better than The Gift.

Wow, I thought it was brilliant and perfect. And Wesley's death was the most powerful death in the Whedonverse. I loved every minute of NFA. There is not a thing I would have changed.

No. It was certainly better crafted and better written than Chosen... but I'm a Spuffy, so I obviously wouldn't end the show at S5, for the Spuffy in S7. Plus, even though all of you say that one great episode doesn't justify the show continuing... for me it does, in this case. Because as a huge musical/music/singing fan, OMWF was amazing and fantastic, and I wouldn't give it up for anything. Even pod!Giles. Also, there're other great episodes like After Life, Normal Again, Selfless, Conversations With Dead People...

I think The Gift would have made a terrific ending, but I'm glad that it didn't end.

There was so much that wasn't resolved. What about the Hellmouth? Something had to be done about it since the whole show is based around the Hellmouth. Also, what about Xander and Anya's wedding? Surely people would have wanted to see that. And what would happen with Dawn?

Like I said, it would have made a great and epic ending, but if it really was, it would have felt so rushed. We don't get any good conclusion.

I'm happy Chosen was the finale. I happened to think that it was totally epic, I get goosebumps throughout the whole battle each time. And I'm glad Buffy survived, it was the right thing to happen. Buffy was the hero, and although her death in The Gift made her the most heroic ever, it just didn't feel right for her to die at the end.

Plus, we wouldn't have gotten some amazing episodes like OMWF, and of course Spuffy. 😀

Totally agree. S7 Spuffy is amazing. BTW, I really really hate musicials, yet OMWF is one of my very favorite BtVS/AtS episodes (Top 5, without a doubt). It's even on my iPod. And that Robin/Spike episode is brilliant. Holden and Buffy in CWDP... wow!!!

There are many things to criticize about Season 7, while Season 5 was almost perfect. Yet Season 6 has so many great episodes, and so does Season 7. I can't imagine a world without them.

Wow, so many great posts! I have to respond!

One of the sad things about AtS is that they never battle the Partners. It ended before the huge epic battle with the ultimate villains. I'm glad Buffy got to battle the Hellmouth.

And of course, Spuffy goodness. 😛

I hate musicals also, but I really love OMWF.
I prefer The Gift as a season finale and I think it would have ended on such a high! But to end on the death of Buffy, I don't know! It's my favourite episode but I am glad the series ended with a smile from Buffy!

Plus yes there are great episodes to come from both S6 and S7 so I'm glad it continued!

🙂

Everything could have been wrapped up on Angel. Characters who still had stories could joined the Fang Gang
