I also think its good to separate the actor from the role they play; I can't stand Sean Penn and yet he's in some decent movies. I will continue to enjoy many Kevin Spacey film roles despite those characters looking like creepy-Kev.
I totally agree in general, but some people just get to you, y'know. I don't wish Brie Larson ill or anything, but I won't pay to see her. Since I don't have a previous impression of her or her work to build on, the marketing of this movie is all I have to go on.
I think its a problem when Hollywood tries to (or even seems to) heavily cater to an agenda.
Agreed, I think people today are pretty hungry for something that is less politicized and therefore when something, even if it just seems like it's there, smells of agenda, there's a quick counter-reaction to it.
However, I don't think Disney did itself many favors in this case and Youtube was open about changing their algorithm to feature "authoritative" sources when you searched for BL's name which rankled people, in combination with the changes to Rotten Tomatoes and their glitch which lost thousands of reviews and bumped up the ratings of the movie, ... I'm just saying, I've seen conspiracy theories built on a lot less. If the next step is believing that they're buying out empty theatres to boost their numbers, it only seems natural. If the handling of the bad press of Captain Marvel had been better, essentially, I think this would've been shrugged off more easily.
Trasherpix has a point though, all of this drama is mostly a concern online, not to regular people who go to see movies without being heavily involved in fandom. So the number of people who are genuinely upset about it, or believe in the conspiracy, is probably vastly overstated. From both sides.
