The Horrendous Fashion on BTVS

Not ALL of it obviously, some stuff was really great (like most of what Faith had going on!) but especially earlier seasons (IE: 1& 2).

For example: (and ill try to find as many screencaps to go along with as i can)

What were with THESE shoes with her white dress:

Big black and clunky! I know that was in then (trust me, in 99 i was 13 and i had them, strappy, chunky heels) but man did i not realize how UGLY they were. A pair of cute stilletos would have made the outfit bangin'.

And we all know Kendra's dreaded outift which i can vouch for the shirt...but those pants... and shoes? I wish i could find a screencap of when she steps out of the plane at first and they show the shoes...eep!

And then what was with the eye sore buffy was wearing at the end of What's My Line pt 2?

I mean, what were the people in wardrobe thinking? I cannot forgive those green pants. (though maybe my adversity to weird colored pants is being a new yorker, after all, they say all we wear are jeans and black lol).

I understand willows kitschy style (though sometimes that even went too far) but come on, our heroine out to be more... not that haha.

Ok I'm really ragging on the show but really it's all in good fun.

Then there's the super short dresses that just look ridiculous, and the terribly high waisted pants. Even back then, hip huggers (or even just low rise) were in. She had like, old woman pants.

Any other eyesores anyone wants to mention (on Buffy or anybody else, even Cordy had some "yeesh" outfits esp in seasons 1 & 2 i just can't find them right now).
 
Ok, considering I was 16 in 1997 when the show first aired I can personally attest to the styles Buffy wore being in fashion. Chunky shoes, short skirts, and Xander's 70's style button up shirts, yeah all in teen fashion in 1997. Now, in later seasons, they let SMG actually be more involved in "Buffy's" wardrobe. So anything past Season 2, I think, was inluenced by SMG's personal tastes. There is an extra on one of the dvd's where they talk about SMG becoming more involved in the wardrobe and how Buffy's attire became more adultish.

BTW, the white shoes with her dress, I had a pair of tan colored ones that I wore to my Freshman formal in 1996. It was just the fashion. Granted I gave them to the dog as a chew toy a couple of years back.:whistle: I think everyone has a moment of "What was I thinking?" when they look back at pictures of themselves or they dig thru their parents attic to find some horrendus shirt that used to be the choice wear.
 
I'm totally with Evilyn. I was the same age when Buffy aired (16) so I went through the same fashionista things. I was pretty much a follower of fashion (as long as it looked good on me that is, hehe) and had my very own huge collection of short skirts and dresses along with knee high boots for every occasion haha. They were utterly in. And even looking back now, I think the look (skirt and knee high boots) is still pretty good and could pass for teen fashion today (as the 70s influence is back in again all round)
What makes me go 'what were we thinking' is the color 'co-ordination'. I personally remember wearing something that involved orange pants and a red top. Both of the bright variety. *Hangs head in shame*
I think it's all part and parcel of the whole 'time changes and so does fashion along with it' deal.Let's just take comfort in the fact we all looked good and very much in when we wore them. Haha.
But I don't think anything on Buffy was the uber horror. Except maybe those olive green pants Buffy wore in 'When she was bad' because they just hung terribly. And the color was very blah.
 
oh im not saying like, none of these were in style at the time! nor am i saying we wont be laughing at what we wore today in 10 years. i just thought its funny now.
 
You know what I hated? In "Touched," Buffy wore a white shirt with a black bra. It was totally tacky looking and distracting. I kept thinking, "Oh my God, just go change clothes, woman!" I mean white shirt = white bra. Is it really that hard?

And preggo evil Cordy? That black dress thing with the tacky necklace was sooo not Cordy. Come to think of it, preggo Cordy was never a good thing. Remember those awful overalls that she wore during her first pregnancy?

white shirt, black bra was also in a season 1 ep... though i cant think which. she had a white lacy top on and bam, black bra. yeah, really distracting.

That was actually in 'Reptile Boy' I think...and yes it was very distracting

Edit:

Things that I take issue with are stuff like her pants being too short...really really bugged me cuz it happened alot. Oh and did anyone else notice how she sometimes went waaay Simon Cowel wearing her pants up high, like really high, 'Anne' springs to mind.

To be honest, low rise pants weren't "in" at that time. Wow, that makes me feel old
I can honestly say I have never taken note of the shoes on the series, or the fact that she wore a black bra with a white top.

Yeah, low-rise pants weren't that available for us petite gals. I think all my jeans were wide-leg and rested at my natural waist line. As a matter of fact, it took me a little while to get used to low-rise jeans.

I know, she only started wearing low-rise in S7...but some of the stuff she was wearing were looking positively 70's they were so high...it just looked wrong to me
 
Ohh, I totally agree. Like the shiny shirt and pants combo she wore in "Never Kill a Boy on the first date" disturbs me.

I wore a lot of shiny shirts and pants in the 90s. Shiny was good. After the obligatory Nirvana T-Shirt and flannel phase, it was shiny stuff all the way for me. And animal print. I even had one shirt that was shiny, glittery snakeskin print. I wore it with pleather pants.
 
yeah animal print was in, but i never wore it (even in 2000 when i first went into high school, it was still around). i didnt like a lot of trends (still dont... the oversized sunglasses and the skinny jeans? yeck). Anyone remember the giraffe pants she wore in Reptile Boy, when shes hanging outside and first meets Tom (i think that was his name). They were... odd. not the worst thing ive seen but just odd.

Trust me, I wore lots of shiny stuff, LOTS. Just the combo of the silvery tye-dyed top and brown pants that came up almost to her chest was not my favorite outfit she wore.
 
I have to say one of the worst outfits ive seen on BTVS was in the Bargaining pt.2 at the very end. Willow has on a nice skirt if i remember coerrectly but a horrible bright reddish-orange puffy jacket.
 
Fashion wise, all I know is that Willow had the worst wardrobe ever. It kinda bothered me she didn't get hot until she turned lesbian.

Buffy was usually dressed pretty hot after season two, especially in her tank tops. (yum)

Xander dressed like a loser IMO too.

And Cordelia...wowzers she was always dressed hot except maybe sometimes in season one, but I never really paid attention just because season one was soooo freakin 90s I overlooked everything.
 
I just watched the first ep in season 7 and i really hated that huge white shirt that Buffy wears! Its really wide but dosn't reach all the way to her pants! The entire time, I just wanted to jump in the screen and get her to change her shirt!!!LOL
 
When the show aired everything was in fashion now it's just out dated.. some outfits are just plain scary, but i love all the characters anyway!
 
yeah, it doesn't matter what they wear because all the characters in buffy are GREAT!!!🙂
