The Most Terrifying Big Bad On Buffy.

Well, if they are looking at that then I would say Darla.. as she had two guns and a vampire! I would take a vampire with two guns over a nerd with one.

hm. i don't like the utilitarian approach and i don't think there's much difference between Lawful Evil and LG so i'd say it's a toss between
the initiative and the watcher's council.
 
I can understand the point of the article. Despite all the fantastical, unreal, otherworldly aspects to the show, Warren is completely human, and he's the one aspect of the show that could happen in real life. I mean, no Hell God is going to come down and try to rip a portal in reality trying to get back home and the mayor of a small town isn't going to be an immortal monster bend on destroying everything he built (that makes no sense to me).

But a guy who was rejected by a girl and going down a darker and darker path looking for revenge until he goes on a shooting spree and kills innocent bystanders?

How many times have we read about that? Or seen it on the news?

Warren might not be the worst villain on the show, but he is the most realistic.

I dont get the author's point. For me the big bad wolf in little red riding hood isn't walking in four legs and the big bads in buffy are out there in the real world.
And buffy did die at the master's hand or could have died from a missfired crossbow bolt / poisoned claw / or choke on that ghastly cereal bar Xander was selling. Warren just surprised her, that's all. It could have been Glory with a throwing spear or something or Kendra shoting buffy instead of the lamp.

So what was Joss' point beside the anti-gun statement? Can someone explain?

Maybe cos warren had a soul? But dark will also had one and she counts as supernatural threat coz of her mojo.
 
Warren is scary. He could be that guy on the street and you can't say that about Angelus, Glory or The Mayor, so from a realistic point of view, yes, he is totally terrifying. But when I look at Buffy, I can't look at it with the same dose of realism, because there are vampires and demons and hellgods. So while I completely get what the author was trying to articulate, I don't think you can bundle Warren in with the most terrifying big bads in the Buffy universe.

But yeah, Warren was super creepy and slightly deranged.

I vote Angelus - he did more harm, and was far more difficult to fight on both a personal level, and because of his strength. He deliberately killed Jenny - it wasn't a stray bullet. And he tortured Giles - a subject of some debate in the news.
 
I'd agree that Angelus was the scariest. That article did link to some other interesting ones, though.
 
In terms of what they can do, then I'd say Glory. Glory is by far the most powerful big bad of the series. If it weren't for Ben's humanity and Buffy's knowledge of The Key, then Glory should've slaughtered the Scoobies in one episode as she clearly had more than enough power to do so.

Overall though, my votes goes to Angelus. The fact that he could have killed Buffy at any moment but decides to torture her mentally is beyond creepy and because he would act like a hero to someone and then kill them before they react, it just seals the deal. I found Angelus to be the most terrifying.
 
I found Warren terrifying. He's not the most dangerous as far as being able to cast the world into hell and kill all the people, but his character seriously haunted me, probably because he could sorta happen. Not the invisible ray gun and some of the campy stuff, but people like him exist and tear apart lives.

Danger wise, clearly it was the first..seeing how even defeated it actually swallowed and entire city.

In my mind, fear itself is the constant and most dangerous Big Bad. It was the thing that could cripple them and keep them from fighting the good fight. Fear and emotional pain....they had to keep pushing past.
 
Yea I can see why Warren was a bad person, and his lack of morality and empathy can make him a real threat. But the most terrifying villain of the series? no. I'd give that to either Angelus, who is like Warren but a superpowered vampire! Or Dark Willow.
 
I don't know about me personally, but possibly a vote could be made for Wolfram and Hart, if we included AtS(?). They are the most mysterious, inscrutable, successful (look how long they have been plotting the end of the world without being thwarted, their influence on other planets, etc.) and sinister big bads by far. Trying to take them down would feel hopeless and despairing I imagine, after awhile. Where does one begin really?

I like it. Good Point at the end of the article, because there could be a Warren everywhere. And that guy was a true psycho. The show becomes very (scary) real at that point.

But I wouldnt call him a "Big Bad", because the Big Bad in Season 6 was Dark Willow (more or less accidental created by Warren). Warren, for me, is more like a semi-Big Bad. 😉

If I had to pick a Big Bad, I dont know. They all (except Adam) had their charm. 🙂

Warren is the only Big Bad I know for a fact I could wipe the floor with and enjoy it. He was a woman-hating man-child who killed one of the nicest characters o the show through sheer incompotence.
Cowards with guns just make me angry, they don't frighten me in the least.

Angelus was scary, Dru could be scary, Faith in 'Five By Five' was scary, Caleb was scary, Dark Willow was scary. This scrote wasn't.
 
I'd go with Angelus, followed by the Mayor. The presence of both are towering. And the respective performances are just so sinister and layered. I tend to think of them really touching on real life emotions and pushing Buffy and co buttons on those levels more than any other BB's.
 
I would say the Mayor over Angelus . The Mayor took his time while Angelus got bored easly .
