The Pack (Season 1)

But, there was piggy death. That's always sad!

Did you know that they got more complaints aboput the students eating the pig than they did about the students eating the pricipal?

that so doesn't surprise me, vegetarians *sigh* :D
The Pack was one of my favourite episodes in this season. But I feel sorry for Willow every time I watch this episode... and for Xander because of the *eating the pig* thing! urghh But i think it's a good and funny episode. 😉

Ah, and how could I forget! Poor Herbert and principal Flutie!! 🙁

I ahve to say i do like this episode quite a bit, besides the fact that xander looks incredibly sexy, all in all it is a really good episode (okay besides the piggy death).
I love one of the songs in this episode too its by a band called 'far' its amazing.

I just watched this episode last night. It's not one of my favorites but I do think it's a good episode. I love when Buffy goes 'Are you gonna say anything to me??' Haha, no!! I was pissed seeing Xander act that way but the ending was really cute when he said 'Nobody hurts my Willow'. Awww 🙂

I love "The Pack!" While it isn't one of my all-time favorites over the entire series, I think it's one of the better Xander episodes of the series, for sure. I think it was very on pointe as far as showing how Xander could be if he turned to the dark side. Think of all the cutting, nasty things he's said all in good sarcasm over the years. His comments about Angel, Cordelia, etc... And he meant them with all his heart! He could definitely be a good villain. And I think whoever said he might have given Angelus a run for his money was completely on. I totally agree.

I like this episode. I loved the scenes between Giles and Buffy when Buffy is trying to tell Giles that Xander is possessed and he's just fobbing her off saying that Xander's acting like a normal 16 year old boy and then he realises he's wrong!! Its a typical Giles/Buffy moment.

Plus I love the fact that Xander got the chance to play a more dark, dangreous character and that he reverts back to being dorky Xander at the end. It was a nice bonding scene between Xander and Giles when Giles mentions that he's never read anything about loss of memory after a possession!!

And you have the whole Willow/Xander relationship coming into play. I felt so sorry for Willow. But it was great how Xander saves her at the end!!

Well, having just seen this ep again, I was going to comment on my favorite parts, but you said everything I wanted to say, so I just reposted your post!

Is this the episode in which Xander tried to rape Buffy? Strange that she wasn't uncomfortable around him, following the incident.

Well, he was under a spell...and everyone in the show has done questionable things under spells before 😉 Besides, he was very embarrassed... "Shoot me, Stuff me, Mount me" lol

Because she knew it wasn't Xander. If Xander wasn't posessed and tried to rape her, then her reaction would A LOT different. 🙂

As for Xander raping Buffy, we have the answer in BB&B, he had the chance and didn't take it. As Buffy said, he was a gentleman.

For me this was one of the weakest Buffy episodes ever, bottom top 10 for sure. Surprised to read so much love for it. Guess it has some charm.

Ah, I see. We're making excuses for Xander's attempted rape of Buffy by claiming that "it wasn't really him". Ri-i-i-i-ght. I'm sorry if I find that hard to believe. Personally, I suspect that the possession merely brought out Xander's darker side or simply lifted the restraints. After all, he DID want Buffy, regardless of whether he was possessed or not.

But a possessed Xander is not the same as a souless Spike. Hmmm . . . I still find that hard to believe.

I'm too disgusted beyond words.

I've never really cared much for this episode. Them eating the pig and poor Flutie really erked me. BUT! Something good did come from it. Like Faith after Kendra, we got Snyder after Flutie! (Are the principals chosen ones too? 😛) And GOOD GOD did I hate Snyder!

Uhh, the definition of possessed:

influenced or controlled by something (as an evil spirit, a passion, or an idea).

In this case, Xander was possessed by a hyena. Okay, it's a little stupid but obviously the intention of the writing was not to say that, "this is real Xander. He gonna rape himself some Buffy!" As someone else pointed out, the real Xander was given the opportunity to have his way with Buffy and didn't do it. I think that's a pretty clear sign that the possession didn't just bring about "the real Xander." And your logic about Xander wanting Buffy doesn't follow. Yeah, he wanted her. So what? Almost every human being wants someone at some point in time. It doesn't make us all rapists so it doesn't follow that Xander would rape Buffy just because he wanted her. Especially not given the way he behaves in other episodes, when he is not possessed. And if we are going to say that Xander is guilty of everything possessed Xander does in this episode, then I guess Cordelia is responsible for everything "she" did while her body was hijacked by a demon, and Fred is responsible for everything Illyria did because Illyria happened to take over her body.

That's not an excuse, that's the truth. Do you believe that Xander would have raped Buffy, ate an uncooked pig and treated Willow like dirt if he wasn't possessed?

Okay, I know your love for Spike is speaking for you, and hey, Spike is my second favorite character and if I'd compare him with another character it'll be Angel. We say Angel isn't to be blamed for what Angelus had done, then Souled Spike isn't to be blamed for what Soulless Spike had done.

Spike's situation isn't the same as Xander's, simply because Spike WAS'T possessed when he tried to rape Buffy. He was the same Spike we knew from S2 to S6, no possession or anything taking control of his actions.

Now Xander wanted Buffy, but that doesn't mean he's gonna rape her if he gets a chance, we've seen Xander getting his chance in BB&B, but he didn't rape her.

You can't blame a possessed guy for the things he did while possessed, it's like blaming Jenny for trying to kill Giles when possessed or blaming Spike for killing those people when he'd been controlled by The First.

If you wanna blame Xander for something, how about ditching Anya at the altar or summoning Sweet, because he did those things without being possessed. So they're fair accusations.

Well, it's not really much of a secret that Xander wanted Buffy for a long, long time, nor that he was uncharmingly jealous. That said, I don't think Xander in his normal, unpossessed state wanted to rape Buffy, that would be the animal taking over.
I think "The Pack" is a good episode. I loved seeing Nick Brendon play the ruthless baddie, and was charmed exactly as I should by Xander saving Willow in the end. It's a shame the zoo keeper was killed, though. He was a neat baddie who could have been funny to see again. Also, I like the Xander-Giles moment in the end. I imagine Giles thinking of his Ripper days there. Because there's no doubt that Giles has done some Very Stupid Things in is younger days.

It was a cruel end to a principal who seemed like a pretty nice guy. However, it was Flutie's own fault because he was so very crunchy! 😀

Kinda liked evil Zander, except for what he did to Willow and Buffy. Nicolas Brendon must have enjoyed playing against type for this episode.

Pooooooooooooooooooor Principal Flutie and the Helpless Pig.

R.I.P.
