I was going to start a thread for a band that I've recently become a fan of but I thought it would be a better idea to start one where we can all put the word out for any new bands that we think deserve more exposure.

First up then, and the band that nearly had a thread all of their very own, Flyleaf! An incredible new(ish) band from Belton, Texas. I only discovered them about a month ago but in that time I've really got into what they do.

Their music is just incredible, showing definate metal, punk and grunge influence. Their lead singer, Lacey Mosley, has the look and vocal ability of a metal edged Avril Lavigne. Really powerful voice from a really tiny source.

The standout tracks I've heard so far are I'm So Sick and Fully Alive, both of which can be heard at the official website. Have a listen and see what you think.

So anyone else got a band they want to pimp? 🙂

We're definitely getting married. Like, soon. BECAUSE WE'RE THE SAME.
Haaaaa, funny......I can't stand Flyleaf! BUT, they are from nearly my hometown. Belton's about 15 minutes from where I hail.

What IS it with you and the female singers with huge voices? LOL! I admit, the tunes are catchy, I love the 'feel' of them, but their singer gets on my last nerve. Odd that, because I completely LOVE Disturbed and Flyleaf is very similar in vocal styling.

Oooo, I forgot to pimp my fave new band, AFI. They're not new, but they're new to me.....where have I been all my life? I'm filled with anguish that I didn't discover them years ago!

Pretty much every girl I've dated since college has been a singer in a band. Who would have thought? :D
How can they be like Disturbed if they have a girl singer?

Also, AFI suck. I saw them a few years ago when they were supporting The Offspring and I was really upset when they did an awful version of ToatalImmortal (a song The Offspring do on the Me, Myself and Irene soundtrack). I then found out that it was an AFI song and The Offspring covered it. The Offspring do it better.

I can't imagine anyone being able to to a better version of an Offspring song than The Offspring. That said, a mate of mine has a band who do a really good version of Self Esteem.
ILED hasnt posted yet? he loves flyleaf...almost as much as me 😀

i got into flyleaf like....a year or two ago. i love how hardcore they are for a chick band.

ok..here's my band pimp: Modern Day John

that's a fan myspace... Sigh and Breathe is probably my favorite song on there

Returned Flyleaf kudos... plus extra for the Manchester United mention in your slayer stats :)
im actually not entirely sure they're still a band anymore. they havent had anything new in forever and their official website isnt up anymore 🙁

Really? That's a pity. From the three tracks I just listened to they had a lot of potential.

I've known way too many really good bands fold before they became famous though. Sometimes the passion that creates the music is the same thing that forces the band apart. I know a local band that probably won't survive that much longer because the lead singer can't get on with the rest of the group any more. Real shame.

Hey, the vampire thing works for me too. Which probably accounts for my taste in goth chicks too! 😉

I am noticing a pattern!

It IS a shame! I've seen so many great bands at music festivals and while out with my friends that are never heard from again. And I like that stuff that falls between the cracks (read: not force-fed by ClearChannel Comm.), {{japanese punk bands}}, but it's not 'mainstream' so doesn't get the attention it deserves. I think that's another reason that some bands implode, the pressure of trying to make that 'one big break.' That's partly the reason I like going to see bands live, especially at things like music festivals where there's a lot of different styles and bands that are trying to get their names out there, because I know I'm never going to hear that stuff on the radio. I think they need the support of the audience, too, that instant feedback.

I remember going to see a band way back in 1992/93ish, quite a small gig but really packed. I thought they were fantastic but not long after that the mate I went to the gig with told me that he had heard the band had split because the lead singer had got pissed off with being in the same band as his brother.

Not sure what happened to them after that. What were they called again... Oasis? Wonder if they made it? 😉

ahh I saw them too - bit of a loudmouthed lead singer.... I don't think they did anything after that did they?
Arcane agrees: I can't imagine anyone being able to to a better version of an Offspring song than The Offspring. That said, a mate of mine has a band who do a really good version of Self Esteem.

I agree, but the point was, it was an AFI song originally, not an Offspring song. They just did it better 🙂

No, I did get what you meant. I just meant if the situation were reversed... never mind, my point sucked, lol! 😉

oh PLEASE do not tell me you like Oasis. it would cause me to die a horribly painful death...

Hehe, not exactly. I LIKED Oasis up until around the time they released their third album, by which time Liam was so far up his own arse he didn't care whether or not he had any fans left anyway.

They never topped Definately Maybe and I lost interest in anything they were doing a good while back. Except for the ones Noel sings for some reason, those ones I still seem to get into. Masterplan is still far and away their best song.

Babe, seriously, your music taste sucks. I really don't think you're in a viable position to be mocking a band that has created some of the greatest songs of the past decade.

I don't agree, but it is a better song than the shower of shite 'bands' make today.
