I once had the most horrific nightmare of being chased by a mob of people in the dark who were trying to hurt me, only to wake up to a crowd of people standing over me who I didn't recognise. Surprised I didn't pass out again in fear. Turns out the crowd I didn't recognise were my friends, just my brain hadn't kicked back into gear and in the few seconds it took to get my bearings I was confused over who they were.

What is fainting like?

Like @Spanky I've never fainted before either, I consider myself lucky.

Probably depends on the person. I have lucid dreams occasionally so maybe that contributes to faint dreaming.

I guess it depends, I tend to see stars and then have this abstract awareness of ”existing” and in a state of concern/knowing something isn’t right but not knowing what. I never really have dreams per se, more like a nothingness but with company. That sounds creepy, lol. I don’t know how to describe it except that there is always a vauge something... almost like right before you come out of anesthetic actually. It is unsettling and disorienting because there is no sense of time.

I've never had those dream-faintings before, they do sound far more interesting than my own. I used to faint a lot during my adolescent years, still not sure why, but it was always for between 15 seconds to a few minutes at a time, and I never remembered the blackouts. I just fainted and then woke up and the time in between was gone.

My copy of Querelle of Brest arrived last Thursday, which is my payday. My next order is Charles III, a neo-Shakespearean drama about a certain large-eared fellow whose Mum dies after a long time on the throne and who stirs up a free speech and constitutional controversy when the UK Parliament tries to quash freedom of the media. Looking forward to it. Am running out of tempting unread books to read, however.

I just looked up the symptoms so I'm pretty sure that wasn't it. I'm not too worried about finding the cause (more curious than anything) because they stopped over a decade ago 🙂

Oh I want those instead, but essentially the same thing, the using up of the ingredients before giving it up for Lent. We had pancake races here too on Sunday, it's become quite a big thing here.

I hope that the ice cream/pancake place doesn't shut early today like they usually do on a Tuesday, I'm tempted to go, but end of the month and I can just make my own

Yup...final blow out and an opportunity to use up rich foods before the fast. In the UK it's also called Shrove Tuesday (from "shriven" - penance, confession, absolution etc). I'm not having pancakes and I'm not giving anything up for Lent, although I've bought two Easter Eggs for my lads (because they're cheaper at the moment and one son will whinge if I don't).

I may have some regular cinnamon buns because I can’t imagine making my own Semla, or I’ll look for a place that doesn’t have any almond filling in it (and veg cream, I’m so high maintenance!)

I think a lot of countries call it Fat Tuesday, which is basically true, it's a food day!

Have worked out solution to my book shortage problem. Will head off to Wellington on business tomorrow, so I might check out a used bookshop there and see if they've got a copy of Genet's Thiefs Journal while waiting for Charles III.

I'm starting to get a little concerned about this Coronavirus thing, especially since I'm now encountering A LOT of different people at work. Plus, my immune system isn't exactly used to fighting off many things; haven't been around masses of people on a regular basis for quite awhile.
