yeah and its that attitude that gets you no where.

Get me anywhere where?

I have a very fullfilled love life, but I'm not gonna have someones name branded on me just in case things go wrong because who knows what will happen tomorrow.

There are plenty of less cliche ways to show the girl you love that you love them, without doing something that could potentially be a mistake.

Also, Cangel, yeah names are fine but just suppose you have the name of someone you loved on your left tit and you broke up.

Your next partner isn't gonna exactly be over the moon having someone elses name in their face, telling you that the person you are with was in love with someone else - especially if they broke up with you.

I just feel that someones name, save maybe your childrens, are silly.

Why not 'buy' and name a star that she can have forever or take her on a wonderful mini break or even try something even more amazing that she'll never forget.

I wouldn't mind if i started seeing someone with an exs name tattooed. But i like the star idea, my bro done that for his ex and it was a cool idea.

Sorry I forgot to tell you think of My Little Pony before I made my joke! Is that why you disagreed? :p

a tit is just a wierdplace to get a tattoo
RE:

Tattoos really aren't permanent these days anyway. Sure it costs some deniro, but you can always get them removed. NOT SAYING you will ever want to, just saying. And I think it is a romantic gesture. Good for you. But on a personal note I myself would never do it, but then I don't see myself ever getting married either! *shrugs*

And DO NOT drink before you get branded sweetie! It thins your blood and you'll bleed something fierce. If you bleed too much chances are the tattoo artist will stop and you'll have to go back to have it finished. 😉

A tattoo is cliche but buying a star and naming it after her isn't?! 😛

I'm not a tattoo person anyway, and I wouldn't get my boyfriend's name tattooed me regardless BUT I think its a really sweet thing to do and I wish you lots of happiness 🙂

He obviously wants to be cliche so I gave him another option!

ILY..do i need a better reason than that to give you karma :)
I've never had a tattoo, so I can't really help with the whole pain side of it, but I'd say only you can judge if it's right for you as a couple. So long as she knows about it and is happy with your decision, it is your decision. Some people like flowers, some like chocolates, and some like tattoos. Who cares if it's cliché if its what you want? Like VT said, it's really not all that permanent. Only you can judge the status of your relationship, and if you have one that you truly think is forever...well then I envy you! 25% of relationships do last, and if you don't have any doubts except about the pain (and who wouldn't worry about that!) then I'd say go for it.

If you do have any doubts, however, then you really do need to think carefully about it. But only you can know about that, so any of us telling you what to do is pretty much useless! Whatever you decide, I hope it works out for you and your girlfriend.

Which means: If you just think about asking us what to do you know you shouldn't go through with it. 😉

I'd say no to it.

a) You will regret it when you break up. Ok, you might say that you're love is forever etc...well if thats the case, why not wait until your married and then get it? ..Even then your looking at statistically 50/50.

b) You dont care if you break up, its only a tattoo...What about your next girlfriend? Or your future wife? Do you think they'll appreciate...i dunno...getting it on with you...looking into your eyes all romantic...then bam she has to stare at the name of your ex every time you do it.

c) I know I would find it really lame if a girl i was seeing got my name across her chest. Obviously you know your girl better than us so you can gauge her response better than us. But by getting a tattoo of her name, your basically proposing. Your telling her that she is the one that you want to be with for the rest of your life. She's not going to understand it any other way than that, I highly doubt she'll be as casual as you and just say 'no prob if we break up, its only a tat'.

Its a commitment your placing on her as well as yourself.

As for your original questions, i wouldnt know if they hurt. Though I am planning on getting a cross between my shoulder blades so ill let you know! 🙂

A cross between the shoulder blades... Hmmmmmm! (sw)
Everyone is different. I for one, wouldn't give a toss if a girl i started seeing had an exs name tattooed on her. Its only a tat. As i said, if i met a girl with a ex tattoo id feel lame for judging her. If you did break up and a new gf had a problem with your tat then thats her lame ass problem.

I agree with you on your points and personally I don't think it's a good idea. But what I think really don't matter. And they are getting married so the signals such a tattoo makes doesn't care in their situation. Which could be difficult for you to know of course. And as been stated before. A tattoo can be removed even if it costs a lot of money. For the people that would want to keep such a tattoo after breaking up if one does I really don't get that. You might not care but a future partner probably will.

Exactly. Its almost a very selfish decision when your only dating imo. Yea, you can demand to have the perfect girlfriend who understands all and is perfectly accepting of your imperfections, including your ex etched into your skin staring her in the face...but thats not really the point is it?

Of all of the statistical lifes regrets, im pretty sure getting an ex's name tattoo'd on you is pretty high up that list.

Since you are getting married (still, remember, 50/50) ...IMO, how much better of a gift would it be to do this whole name tattoo thing as a 1 or 2 year anniversary?

The tattoo for me would be like putting on the ring before you've had the wedding...sortof meaningful yet superficial.

See I love tattoo's. I don't know if I would get a girlfriend's name, but it's your skin. Some people don't like the idea of having them, but I figure my skins worm food anyway, so might as well make it pretty. 🙂 And on that happy thought 😀
They do hurt, but it's not agony. I just pick a picture on the wall, and focus on it, zone out and you're done.

I'll continue to go off topic. I'll just wait for a mod to delete this post. 😉 But I think we've answered the original question haven't we?

Since you are getting married (still, remember, 50/50)
The thing is love has little if any to do with logic and when you're (truly) in love you don't care about stuff like that. You "know" everything. He/she is the one for you. Bad things will never happen and you can get married after two days. You know it'll last. That the majority of people that has felt the same way has been wrong (think relationships not marriage) doesn't bother you at that point. Should it? Yes. But it don't. The brain isn't running the operation... Hmm, feels like a few people will take that as something else. I'm talking about the heart!

haha, yea ive been there, probably close to the point of a tat now that i think about it! ...I think the 'voice of logic' saved me on that one
Meh, it's on topic enough for me not to care.

Also: 50% of marriages DO last. Only DM can judge out of all of us which camp his will fall in. Of course, it's not certain or anything, but I don't think it's fair to assume in the negative without knowing anything about them. Of course, giving advice and warnings is cool, as is hypothetical debate, so long as we remember that DM didn't actually ask for it.

Oh, and don't take that to be Mod-Mandate or anything, I'm just expressing my personal opinion on this one.

Hlaf empty or half full.
The 50/50 statistic isnt really to scare anyone, more to elevate my point about making it (an awesome in my opinion) anniversary gift.

Is she British? If not, why not have the name done in whatever her native language is? That way if things don't work out, you can just lie about whatever it says to any future partner and you might even find out that the artist f***ed it up and it's just jibberish anyway

Harley
lie to your next significant other? if you're ok with that, might as well just keep the tat so everyone can read it

If I'm missing the irony I apolgize. It's late and I should be in bed. But you do know that Christina/Kristina and Sarah/Sara (just to make a few examples) are spelled the same way in a lot of languages that isn't english right?

The solution?

Klingon.
