The Tattoo Thread

I was planning on getting a tattoo this past fall, but my finances have been really tight lately and there were more important things to spend my money on. I think eventually though I'll get some kind of song lyric on my arm, something with a personal meaning.
Me too. I've been entertaining a few ideas, mostly from poems. What lyric(s) do you have in mind, revolver?

I already have four tattoos, but you can always have more, right inthedoorway? 😉

Totally. I plan on being pretty much completely covered (besides my face, hands, and a few other choice areas). I think Im doing pretty good so far 🙂

Are are mine:

My mother's name. Pretty basic old-fashioned flash sailor-style thing:

My friend Johnny drew this. Two koala bears with the littlest one holding a balloon that's a sun.

And I have two others which I don't have pictures of. My late friend Tyler's signature on my lower back and "Respice Finem" on my lower arm which means "Look to the end" in Latin.

🙂

They're really pretty!
I have 5 tattoos and of them the one on my calf hurt the most (the bottom of it is close to the bone.) The rest are on meatier parts of my body, shoulders and chest and they hurt, but not bad. It's all relative, some people have very low pain thresholds (as do I) and some don't. It's like Nix said, tho, it's a good kind of pain. It'll linger in your memory for a while, but a couple months will go by and you'll have forgotten all about the pain and be thinking about what you want to get next. They're addictive! Generally, ones that are on very sensitive parts of your body; stomach, underarms, back of the knee, etc., and ones that are on bony parts, hurt the worst. I have a friend who has an awesome butterfly on the top of her foot, and she says it hurt like a ***! I can believe that! Anyway, before you do it, make sure you REALLY want to.....that's kinda what makes the pain bearable.

As for after-tat care...you'll need some kind of ointment, I always used Bacitracin, it's an antibiotic ointment. I've seen people use PrepH, too. The main thing is that you keep it moist while it's healing. Crusty = bad. You don't want it to get scabby, it'll cloud the colors later. Think of it this way, the tattoo is a scar, literally. When you get a cut that forms a scab, that skin that grows back underneath the scab is not the same as the rest of your skin. That's what you're trying to avoid, that scar tissue. Usually takes about 4 - 7 days before you can kinda ease off on the ointment. The artist will give you tips on caring for it while it heals, tho. Or at least he/she should, if it's a reputable shop.

Dude! Awesome!
is the inside of the forearm one of the less-painful places? i've wanted a tattoo for about 4 years now and i know what i want and where i want it, i'm just holding back because of the forever-ness (to make sure i really want it) and the pain.

inside the forearm hurts a it. The closer to the wrist or the elbow trench, the more it hurts. But its not unbearable, especially if its not that big. I'd suggest you stay away from the elbow trench though, I hate getting that place tattood

yeah...i don't want it near the elbow or the wrist actually. i want it pretty much dead in between the two on my forearm. maybe it's time to suck it up and go for it haha.

I have four...I'll have to get pics. But honestly, Inthedoorway, I thought this was you finally deciding to start a thread solely expressing yourself. I want to see every tat and hear the meaning behind them.

I love your tats and I want to live in your room!
Nice! I love tattoo meanings. I'm so sorry about your brother though. It was good of you to get one in his honor. Trevor is a great name. I wanted more but decided that four was my limit. When I turned 29 I woke up one day and started an internship so I took out my tongue and lip rings and decided it was time to appear more my age. I started to feel ridiculous with all of the metal. I have my kids names tattooed on my wrists, a dragon on my chest and one on the back of my neck. Maybe I'll post em...I don't know...but I would like to see more of yours. You don't seem like the kind of person to get a tat just for the sake of, well, getting a tat. I love the beauty fleeting one. That's deep.

I'm glad you like them. Maybe I'll post some more tomorrow. You should post yours too 😀

Nix I have a question. If I put the thin Raiden banner in my sig will I be over limit?
I've seen NIX's Buffy-inspired tattoo. It's pretty cute.

Sorry about your brother, friend. A close friend of mine died when I was 17. I was pretty messed up about it. I have his name tattooed on my lower back, but I don't have a picture.

My other ones, the meanings behind them, are pretty self-explanatory I guess. One is for my dear and awesome mother, and I got the other one one because frankly, I really love cute little animals. I intend to expand on it, maybe into a sleeve but who knows. And the "Respice Finem" on my arm, which means "Look to the end" in Latin (Roughly translated to mean either the end of your life or the end of the world) is there to constantly remind me that my actions have consequences and affect the rest of my life. I got it after I did something really stupid - call it a near-death experience.

yup you will be over the siggy limit unless you reduce the height by 20pixels and then add it to the bottom of your siggy as one piece
