This is far from my first forum, but this is definitely one that I like and want to stick around in (obviously, I'm still here after a few months -- usually people leave within a couple weeks of signing up for forums).
Now, just to put my perspective into this, so people know where I'm coming from, I started getting into fandom in late 2004 with Harry Potter -- yeah, that was kind of a crazy place when it comes to fandom, especially when it comes to the worst aspects of fandom: shipping wars. I was on multiple forums during that time, and seeing the bile and hatred and everything that was thrown at people... well, that was more than kind of terrible. I come here, and what do you know? It's actually a civil place where people are respectful and can have actual discussions.
Now, what I think is the real thing that causes that is the fact that we're almost a decade removed from the end of the show. But what is really amazing about that is that this site is still alive after all of that. All the people who are still active and posting here are so into the show, have had significant time for more perspective, and are still passionate about the show that, so many years later, they can talk about the show in more measured, civilized ways and not be caught up in the heat of the moment.
So, the real accomplishment and thing to be thankful for? The fact that this is still an active forum years later, after the shows have ended. The rereads and rewatches are, I think, a large part of this, as it can bring back the feeling of the shows still being active and bring back the conversation that you have while things are still going on, only with some of the foreknowledge of having seen everything before.
I think all of that made sense. Definitely, thanks to the admins running this site, for keeping everything here going so many years later.
