So after posting on a different thread how interesting the "The Wish" alternate universe is, I was wondering if anyone had any fun theories to throw around how each character got there or why they were different.

For instance, as you can tell by my sweet avatar, I'm a G/J fan. =p And in season 3, Giles got different glasses than he had in seasons 1 and 2, but he has his old ones on in The Wish. I read somewhere that the costume designer sort of restyled Giles' wardrobe from seasons 2 to 3 because one of the things that people do when the lose someone they love is change their appearance to show everyone around them that they are OK. So, since they thought enough to change his glasses back to his old ones for this episode, I assume it was because he didn't go through losing Jenny. So maybe, in this world Jenny is alive and well (as much as anyone could be in such a crappy world) and her and Giles are together. Or it's possible she never met him. Maybe Jenny died anyway, or that when she saw Angel was captured by The Master and his co-horts, she saw he was misrable and went back to Romania.

I don't know, it's interesting to come up with stuff! 😀

God I never noticed he had different glasses :D

Neither did I
Since Angel was captured and being tortured by the Master (and subjected to some kinky stuff by Willow and Xander), there would be no reason for Jenny to watch him. I think she was sent to Sunnydale by the gypsies to monitor his happiness (or lack thereof).

Right right, I was thinking timeline-wise, maybe she got there, saw he was captured, then left. Or got there, saw he was captured, met Giles, and stayed.

Since Angel was captured and tortured By Willow and Xander I highly doubt Jenny would be watching him. She is either dead or left Sunnydale in the alternative universe.

Well, the Master would rise in 'The Harvest' and Jenny first appears in 'I Robot, You Jane' , but it's not clear whether she's a new teacher or that this is just the first time she interacts with Giles. I agree about it being a missed opportunity, since the actress appears in the next episode 'Amends' anyway.

Here's a thought: where are Darla, Spike and Drusilla?

And did Larry ever gather up the courage to come out, like in 'Phases'? 😛

Yea, I'm always in the camp of "Should've had Jenny is this episode." It would have been an added impact with being in a really different world.

Yea! I mean, Drusilla still would've needed Angel to cure her of her weakness. I wonder if that ever happened. Hmm, maybe vamp Xander and vamp Willow took them out!

I would have loved to see have seen a revamped (pun intended) fanged four, with Dru, Spike, Xander and Willow. Would have loved to have seen the interaction between a vampire Spike and Xander.

Well, I'm not so sure about that. I mean, part of the reason Spike and Dru went to Sunnydale was because the Slayer was there. Maybe they would've gone looking for Angel anyway, but considering they'd been without him for 100 years, I doubt it.

On a different note, why was Angel in Sunnydale? I doubt Whistler would've sent him there if Buffy wasn't going to be there...

I always thought the whole point they came to Sunnydale was because they needed Angel for the spell they did in What's My Line part 2 to restore Drusilla to her former strength.

Right, and the same logic would apply to Giles. The way I took the whole episode was that Buffy was supposed to be in Sunnydale. They say that a couple of times throughout the episode. You have people like Giles and Angel who are sent there to fulfill their duty but because Buffy never arrives, they just sorta wait for her I guess. Take Cordelia's wish as literal as possibly, "I wish Buffy Summers had never come to Sunnydale" means the only thing that changed was Buffy getting to Sunnydale. Everyone else was en route to Sunnydale and was lost to not find Buffy there as well.

I don't think Giles and Jenny ever met.

Jenny was sent to Sunnydale to stop Angelus from rising again. Since Buffy never came to town, Angel was locked down by Master, he never became Angelus, so there was no threat of the curse, so there was no need for Jenny to come in Sunnydale, so I don't think she and Giles ever met.

I don't think they found out they needed Angel until they'd come - they first of all had that vamp with glasses steal books and find stuff out, and then he had to steal the DuLac (?) cross to read them, and then they found out they needed Angel. I think. That's how I remember it, anyway.

Yup your exactly right I just watched that episode a few days ago. They didn't realize they needed Dru's sire until after the studious looking vamp deciphered the readings.

In The Wish, when Buffy gets Angel out of lock down doesn't he say "I've been waiting for you" ??

So yeah it's clear that everyone went to Sunnydale to wait for Buffys arrival but she just never showed up, so the master rose and all he'll broke loose.

Ahh yes I found it:

"ANGEL: Buffy. Buffy Summers.

ANGEL: It's you. I mean... you don't remember. How could you?

BUFFY: How did you know my name?

ANGEL: I waited. I waited here for you. But you never... I was supposed to help you.

BUFFY: You were gonna help me?

ANGEL: The Master rose. He let me live... to punish me. I kept hoping maybe you'd come. My destiny.

BUFFY: Is this a get-in-my-pants thing? You guys in Sunnydale talk like I'm the Second Coming. "

I've always wondered how different Kendra and Faith would have been in the Wishverse. I imagine that Kendra, if the alternate Buffy is any sort of example, would have been more forceful, outgoing, and dynamic, whereas Faith would have been sort of shy and introverted. The Watchers' Council would have been actually dedicated to helping and supporting the Slayers, and Principal Snyder, a highly decorated former Navy Seal, who helped patrol the hellmouth with ex Green Beret and current Mayor Wilkins and a squad of Initiative commandos, would have been a caring father figure to the students at Sunnydale High, loved and respected by everyone.

There probably wouldn't have been any closet to come out of for Larry, but Oz, the class clown, would have had a deep crush on Giles, who, in turn, kept an autographed picture of Rock Hudson on his mantle.

Willow would no doubt been the class slut and airhead, and Xander was the school drug dealer and loan shark.

Jonathan would not be in town, since he was living in Japan, studying Zen Philosophy, Aikido, Ninjitsu, and Kendo with his mentor and best friend, Wesley Wyndham-Pryce.

Andrew and Warren, his best friend and co-captain of the Sunnydale High football team, are in South America in the Peace Corps

(I've been thinking about this stuff for a long time, now)

The Wishverse isn't opposite land, white avenger. Cordy's wish didn't change anyone's personality, it just changed one past circumstance, which snowballed and resulted in a very different present day. Wishversse Buffy is the way she is because the last couple of years have been very different for her than they should have been. Her parents might be dead, she doesn't have friends like Willow and Xander--she might not even have any friends at all--, she doesn't have Angel, and her relationship with her Watcher is obviously very different from the one she should have had with Giles. Just as they've shaped everyone else into different people than the ones we're used to, the different circumstances have shaped her into the irritable, apathetic girl who shows up in Sunnydale two years too late.

Also, Buffy never died at the Master's hand in '97, so Kendra never got called, and by extension, nor did Faith. Actually, there's a suspiciously Faith-like girl getting drained just outside the Bronze when Willow and Xander first saunter in after running into Cordy and the White Hats on the street.

I think Darla is off somewhere looking for a way to get rid of Angel's soul, because I highly doubt that she'd be content to let two glorified fledglings play with her darling boy indefinitely. She'd consider it insulting.

I'm sure Spike and Dru are still out there, and if the rest of the world is as crappy as Sunnydale (which would explain why Buffy's Watcher doesn't really care what's up in Sunnydale), maybe they found another way to cure Dru. I doubt they'd be interested in living in the Master's town, though.

I don't think Jenny was ever even sent to Sunnydale in the Wishverse, because she was only there to watch Angel after there had been warning signs--meaning, after he and Buffy had met. With Buffy in Cleveland and Angel locked up and getting tortured regularly, there's nothing to worry about, curse-wise.

The original question described the Wishverse as an alternate reality, and asked if we had any fun theories about what happened there. I had fun coming up with my theories, sorry that you found them not so much fun. Your choice entirely.

And, no, obviously, Buffy wasn't killed by the Master in Season 1, but she was clearly shown as being drained by the Master in "The Wish," which would result in a new Slayer being called there. The speculation of Kendra, then Faith being called there, as well as everything else that I mentioned, was, once more, just fun speculation, neither more nor less valid that anyone else's here. As I said, I had fun with it, and, hopefully someone else will as well. If not, well, I STILL had fun with it.

Maybe your theories are fun for you, but I don't think they're at all plausible, which was what I was getting at. For me, a "fun" theory is the one that offers a logical explanation. (It's very possible that I'm a boring Vulcan.)

Also, the Master snapped Buffy's neck in "The Wish", he didn't drain her.

Vulcans are always fun, they're absolutely hilarious, in fact. It's just that they don't know how to express it.

And the Master drained Buffy just before snapping her neck, he was just so super fast (vampire speed, you know) that you never saw it.

(See there? You just helped me come up with another "fun theory.")

"Fun." You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means in the context of this thread. Everyone else has been having fun coming up with plausible theories about the Wishverse or pointing out other things that weren't explained in order to encourage further plausible theorizing, not spouting highly illogical and irrelevant crackfic ideas that provide no insight.

"I do not think it means what you think it means" karma... gotta love some PB quotage.
This is what Webster says:

Definition of FUN
1
: what provides amusement or enjoyment; specifically : playful often boisterous action or speech <full of fun>

That's exactly what I thought that it meant. My speculations provided me with amusement, whether you saw the humor there or not.

Maybe you're a Romulon who only THINKS that she's a Vulcan.
