Things That Don't Make Sense

(okay, I went through the entire forum looking for topics but I couldn't find a thread about this. If there is one, I apologize and would like to ask the mods to merge this thread with that one)

I'm currently rewatching Buffy right now and I came across something that doesn't make sense:

In "Innocence", Angelus entered Jenny's uncle's apartment without being invited, yet in S1 of Angel, he could not enter Trevor Lockley's because he wasn't invited.

How is this possible? Also, do you guys have similar questions about things in the show(s) that make no sense to you at all?

For me, there may be more, so I'll come back to this later. 🙂

Good observation. Maybe he was able to enter since it was a hotel room? Just a guess. The main thing that doesn't make sense is how Buffy and co keep their anomenity (sp?) and why people in Sunnydale are so quick to "forget" all the supernatural phenomena that happen as well as Buffy's role in stopping them.

Yes, me too. I wonder how Angel found Enyos, though. Or why Enyos was dumb enough to stay in Sunnydale after he learned that Angel had lost his soul.

LOL Really... Unless he was planning on trying to help in some way, I don't know why he would have stayed. But then, there are a lot of stupid people who stay in Sunnydale despite a lot of stuff!

Another thing that doesn't make sense is how, after three seasons, Buffy 'ran' into the Initiative for the first time while out on patrol. From what I gathered, the Initiative was in operation for quite some time, as in way before S4.

I'm super OCD about little mistakes in just about anything, so I make up the whats abd whys for every little detail that doesn't make sense, no matter how crazy my explanations are. So this is the thread for me!

To answer the Initiative question, I just figured that they had just been more careful before this, but they bumped into her because they were rushing to find Spike, who was probably the only demon that had ever escaped them. Either that, or pure chance.😀

I don't think the Initiative had been in operation for more than a few months. Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense.

The only thing that really bothered me was the uber-Vamp. Buffy struggled to beat one, and yet they were dropping like flies in the finale

I've mentioned this before in my own thread, but Spike's chip didn't activate when he fought his way out of The Initiative base. One possible explanation I got was that the chip needed some time to be fully functional.

Have you ever watched episodes of S3 of Buffy where Faith was no in them and go huh? Take "Band Candy" for example. You'd think Faith would be involved in stopping the wackiness. Or even "Gingerbread".

There is one thing in Season 3 I cant get my head around! In "Enemies" how did the whole cover up work in relation to the demon? The Mayor called a demon to remove Angel's soul, but then co-incidentally Giles knew that very demon. Did the demon approach Giles? If so how would he know Giles would want to know something like that? Alternatively how did Giles know The Mayor called the demon? Thats the one thing I dont really get - it might be a mental block!!

It was a hotel room? It's been a while since I watched that one, but I don't remember anything about Giles going to a hotel. If he did, that wouldn't make sense either. Giles and Jenny worked at the same school, presumably they lived in the same town, Sunnydale, which is not a big city. Why go to a hotel? Besides, in my limited experience, I've never seen a hotel room with a dining room downstairs and a bedroom upstairs.

Maybe I missed something. If you can tell me where to look, on the screen or in the script, I'd appreciate it.

As I remember, this problem didn't bother me the first time I watched that ep. The emotional tone was so high, I didn't have any brain cycles left over to think about the problem. It does bother me a little, now, but I love this show, I'm forgiving of things like that.

About Sunnydale people not seeing what goes on, I have an answer that makes sense to me, but it's not the kind of answer most of us seem to want. If you listen to installment 16 of my podcast, Buffy Thoughts, you'll hear me explain it in detail.

I think this actually helps illustrate that Faith was never really one of the "scoobies," and the isolation she probably felt which helped fuel her downward spiral.

Yeah, the only way to explain this is to say that one of the scoobies was eavesdropping near the mayor's office, (which would make plenty of sense considering they did that in later episodes--or at least had Buffy observe the delivering of the box), so they were aware of the mayor's plan and could contact the demon Giles happened to know and have him offer to do the job.

I thought that the demon was told the job by the Mayor, then it went to Giles as it knew Giles was in town, and as he owed Giles a favour he faked the spell for him.

Excuse me... I never saw where it was SAID it was a hotel room, but most of the time when the bed and everything is all in one room it's either a studio apartment or a hotel room. I assumed it was the latter.

*EDIT* I'm talking about Jenny's uncle's place, not Giles' apartment. I'm not that stupid to think Giles lived in a hotel.

About the demon who was called to get rid of Angels soul. Giles introduced the demon to his wife. The demon went to see Giles, being as he was in the area and together they planned the fake soul removal. It was simply the demon returning a favour.

So how did Angel get into Kate's flat (ATS) when she was unconscious?

About Angel getting into Jenny's uncle's apartment, I have a vague memory of it being said to be a temporary rented place. If not, use the scriptwriters 'get out of jail free' card - That is what happens when you live on or near a hellmouth.

I remember vaguely something about the PTB intervening. Like how they obviously still thought Angel was a champion, or wanted Kate alive, so they bent the rules (thinks it's the former). Anyone can verify for me?
