This question is more for those of you who've been watching the show for a long while. Because even if we've seen something many times and for a long period of time, we still don't catch everything, sometimes for many years.

So this is my question. Are there things you just found out about, that you were surprised not only to find out, but also surprised that you didn't know that before?

Like in another thread it's been mentioned that originally they planned to hook Spike and Willow up. That surprised me as hell! And I did not know that until now.

There are also things that you might be embarrassed that you didn't know about till now, so these are the juicy things I'd like to hear. It can be facts about the show, or details in episodes you didn't notice, or things about the cast, etc.
 
Spillow....sounds like a name for an oil spill, not a wonderful epic ship like Spuffy 😀

^that's something I just found out lol. Though I've only been watching the show for about 6 months.

Sosa lola mentioned in another thread that Xander was originally supposed to be Glory's other half! I never knew that before. So weird. Now I can't stop thinking of what that would be like.

That would be pretty cool but then they would have had to kill Xander 🙁 and we all know how Joss loves to kill main characters off. Luckily that never panned out.
 
SMG has said in a lot of interviews that she thought they were going to get Buffy and Xander together but that was just her opinion.
I've heard that Joss didn't know if he was going to make Xander or Willow gay until the fourth season.
Joss originally intended to have no parents but decided against it as he felt too many other teen shows simplistically made parents "the bad guy".
I've heard Joss never intended to kill off Doyle but fed the press that story to protect Glenn Quinn's reputation for being unreliable because of a drug problem (which he later died from unfortunately) That's just a rumour but it was mentioned on a E news special about Glenn Quinn.
I also have heard that they originally intended for Cordelia to be the "big bad" in Season 4 but her pregnancy interfered with it.
I've been watching Buffy since 2000 but unfortunately can't remember which interviews I've read information from.
I've also heard Oz's season 4 arc was supposed to be dragged out through most of Season 4 but was shortened to help Seth's movie shooting schedules.
 
I never heard that Spike and Willow were supposed to be together, but I did hear someone (I think it was Skitty) mention that James Marsters said in one of the interviews that he was brought back to be Xander's boyfriend, but when Seth Green left, they decided to make Willow gay.

What I recently learned was that Firefly was written for Nicholas Brendon and that he was going to be Mal.

I can't imagine Nathan Fillion not being Mal. They just fit.

it's not recent but I did read that Cordelia auditioned for the role of Buffy and SMG auditioned for the role of Cordy
 
This is what SMG knew in advance about what was going to happen in the show: “Joss has had certain episodes planned from the get-go. I knew Dawn was coming two years in advance… Willow was always supposed to go bad. Willow was supposed to go bad a year before she did, but Joss loved Tara and Willow, so that story line was pushed a year… I honestly believe his original intentions was to put Buffy and Xander together. I really do believe that.”


This a very old news, Xander was supposed to die in Chosen instead of Anya, but what's new is the episode script here:

Well this I just learned... hm, I think I prefer the set-up we got though with Ben. (Would Xander have been killed off similiarly otherwise I wonder?🙁)
 
Season 2 Episode 18 Killed By Death Willow pretends to be crazy and starts yelling that frogs are all over her, and earlier in the season (I don't remember when exactly) she told Giles about her fear of frogs. I just caught it...lol

I want to see some references on this stuff... Otherwise I think this is just hearsay.
 
Anthony Head said in an interview (I think it was on Jonathon Ross?) that Joss originally intended to come to Ireland and film some of Angel's human flash back scenes but the budget wouldn't allow for it.

I think I would have exploded if this had actually happened lol

I honestly don't know if Xander/Spike is true, but did hear about it from a fan who said she heard James Marsters say it in an interview. I did hear James say that "Spike came back to Sunnydale to kill Xander" which was a slip, he should have said Buffy. I thought it was Spanderly adorable. Never heard of Willow/Spike, though.

The Nick as Mal bit is true, Nicholas Brendon even mentioned it in the last Phoenix Comic Con.

I've been watching season 2, and I just noticed for the first time that Angelus kept wearing the Claddagh Ring. I thought that was really interesting.

I also jsut recently learned that Mercedes and James dated for a while during the filming of season 4.
