This has got to be too young, surely? 13 year old Dad

Oh see I would think it would be a reverse and people would be all "Oh he PRESSURED her POOOOOR girl" and all that crap and call him the freako.

You. Win.
Ok seriously, other than how old the girl looks do we have to comment further on her appearence? I think it has gone beyond a joke at this stage.

H
Harm
it's not a joke, it's just a comment on her looks. why is everyone freaking out. if I said it about anyone else nobody would care.

I think you should start banning people - I've already compiled a list

What Kean said. Come on, people!
Banning for stating an opinion? classy.

Anyways: While looking at that site I saw like a side story for like some 17 year old with triplets. It's pretty sad that I felt good about that. Obviously it was just because I just read about this whole mess.

Nope, I don't care about the opinion, I just people that bug me! Though its amusing you've taken a comical comment and made a deal out of it. Talk about being a troll.
Partly. I am inclined to agree with Harm over there

ANYWAY!

About Sex Ed. I'm in my 2nd year of high school, and last year we learnt about nessacary protection to stop from getting pregnant. Also to protect from STDs and the like, but that's besdide the point.

I'm also inclined to agree with BoF

The legal age is 16 here in New Zealand aswell

What is it that you ACTUALLY agree with in both cases?
It is a terrible indictment of our society that (A) this actually happened...and (B) it's worthy of headline news treatment.

I don't find the fact that these two children...insert derogatory chav comment here...have had a child of their own unusual...I just don't think it is particularly newsworthy, given the world financial crisis, Australian bushfire crisis, NY state aircrash...Jeez, a couple of silly kids played mummy and daddy and the worst happened...it's sad but is it worth reporting?

what makes it worse is that one of the families lives on benefits. the "parents" are so NOT helpful by having extra kids.

TY so much!
Like normally I don't have a problem with teenage pregnancy, I mean one of my good friends just had a baby and shes only 17. But sometimes I'm like eek for some reason, like I was watching Tyra the other night (yes I watch Tyra, she's annoying but she's hott stuff!) and there were a bunch of kids on there that were like trying to have babies and take fertility drugs and she was like 15. So I don't like know where I stand on it at all.

But like these from this story just seem so much younger. It says he's 13 but he's like he's the same height as my 8 year old cousin. I kinda wish the media didn't know about this story haha.

Yeah, he's shorter than my son!
Harm's Way agrees: what makes it worse is that one of the families lives on benefits. the "parents" are so NOT helpful by having extra kids.
Now there you go losing me as a fan...how does it make it worse than one of the families is unfortunate enough to be in the position to be on benefits? Why is it not helpful that they have extra kids? Would it be OK and therefore un-newsworthy if they were from 'decent' families in full-time employment? Perhaps you need to walk a mile in their shoes...

Don't double-standard this issue with ill-judged comments like that...thanks.

Edmund Blackadder agrees: Pointy for Prime Minister!
Al, my friend, you would not believe the changes that would occur if ever that should happen 🙂

Let's just say the term 'benevolent dictatorship' would become common currency...and distancing oneself from the likes of Blair, Mandelson, Cameron, Boris et al would be a fine idea...I'd be approaching Tony Benn and Dennis Skinner for advice 🙂

yea I would never make fun of people on benefits just so you know.
I can't post comment on your user profile so I have to do it here as I have already repped you.

Pointy for President of the WORLD!

Mr. Pointy
flattery on this scale will get you pretty much any where in the Pointyverse Benevolent Dictatorship (TM) :)
^^ If I was a Brit, I'd vote for you!

I live in a small, redneck town...I think the youngest girl to have a baby in my town, so far, was 12. Sadly, this is not NEWS. It's the Sun sensationalizing a statistic. Young teens and even PREteens have been having babies for years! I can understand everyone getting all bent and I'm not condoning...as a matter of fact, I think it's VERY wrong, but it's not new in any way, shape or fashion. Wanna do something about it? Volunteer! There are lots of opportunities to make the difference in a child's life that will prevent this trend from continuing, believe me, and social programs are ALWAYS hungry for volunteers.

As an aside, Harm's Way, I think the girl is ok. She's not GROSS or GROTESQUE or HIDEOUS or whatever else you can heap on her head. She's not a beauty queen, no....but she doesn't deserve the abuse you're shelling out, either.

abuse? please

I'm not making fun of them for being on benefits. I'm saying the 15 year old girl shouldn't be having kids ESPECIALLY if her family is on benefits, like she's not helping them out at all. There isn't anything wrong with being on benefits...

That's probably true, but the girl made a mistake. Oh. Em. Gee. A 15-year old kid made a mistake? Why...that's NEVER happened before!

Yes, abuse. If it's not abusive to call her names and malign her looks, what constitutes such in your world?

Mr. P, if I promise all the plantain chips you can eat (WITH the associated dipping sauces!), do I get to travel freely in the Pointyverse Benevolent Dictatorship (TM) too? 😉

Somehow I feel like it could have been prevented though.
hmmm why is nobody blaming these kids' parents?!

Oh, I'm sure there are lots of people blaming the parents (and if they're smart, they're cursing the fact that here is yet ANOTHER drain on taxpayers money!) I don't feel comfortable blaming it ALL on the parents, the kids are culpable, too. This could have been prevented, you're absolutely right, just like it could have been for the thousands of other teen parents out there. A little education, a little supervision, a little less me, me, me and a little more time spent making our kids feel like they're not alone. I can preach till the cows come home, but we all have our own ideas on how to make the world a perfect place. Me...I'm moving to PBD (TM).

Being on benefits adds absolutely nothing to this discussion.
She shouldn't have had a child ESPECIALLY because she was 14 and he was 12 when they had sex.
Its not like any of this was planned and as for not having an abortion, well as I am firmly against abortion I think the correct decision was made there.

I think people are losing sight of the fact that these two children did something very natural, even for their age and are dealing with one of the natural consequences.

Yes, maybe they should have received better sex education, maybe one of their daddies should have sat them down a couple of years ago and explained to them what happens if you insert appendix a into slot b, but obviously these children have been failed on that side.

They have done nothing wrong, and nothing that hasn't been done since humankind first climbed from the trees and started living in caves.

Ideal situation, they wouldn't have had a child, but they have and as long as that child is cared for, as well as the parent, thenthere ain't much more can be done.

A baby having babies...that's so wrong. His parents should be thrown in jail. 🙁

Why should the parents be thrown in jail? Throwing the parents of teen parents in jail would solve nothing and leave all three children worse off than before.
