Tillow: Loved because of the controversy?

I love Tara and Willow together, it's actually one of my favorite couples on the show, but lately I've been thinking that some people probably loved them for the fact that they were lesbians.

Do any of you Tillow shippers or otherwise feel that way?

I adore Tillow as a couple, not just because their lesbians. I mean I'm a straight girl so why would I like them just for being lesbians? They were two strong, beautiful characters that truly loved and cared for each other, yet they never bored me.

I do sometimes feel like a lot of Buffy/Faith shippers only like them cause they're two hot females though, so I do understand where you're coming from.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly, it just seems that them as a couple could be loved for the reason that they are lesbians. I am also a straight female, so them being lesbians doesn't factor in at all to my liking them, just saying that it might for other people.

Fuffy shipping is something that has confused me muchly forever..

I liked them because it was real love, but yeah, being a guy, I think the whole lesbian thing can only help matters.
But yeah, I hated Kennedy and Willow, so obviously there was other factors in Tillow's relationship that I loved.

I wasn't watching the show when the 4th season first aired and I live in Sweden, but was it really that much of a controversy ?

I was of course intrigued by the lesbian aspect much because that was something I was dealing with myself and because I hadn't seen anything like that in any other show I was watching at that time.
But it was the love between that made them special and not the gay thing, I feel just as strongly about some straight couples and I have nothing but contempt for the Willow/Kennedy relationship.

Okay, I TOTALLY get where you're coming from. I think that's why I might've liked them at first, 'cause (I didn't know it yet, but I liked girls) and well, I think deep inside. I knew that... some how. And that's what made me like them at first. (I had only heard the musical before watching) So, I watched from the beginning. And I did like Woz. It was sweet and they were a cute first couple for Willow. But once Tara came in. I could see Willow's light shining. She was SO happy. And herself. And I saw that you could ACTUALLY have a relationship with a woman. (If you're a girl, of course I already knew men could) And it was amazing and beautiful. I love them. Not ONLY because they are lesbians, but because they made a beautiful couple and had a beautiful relationship. I hate Killow and they are lesbians. So, that's what I mean about having a beautiful loving relationship.

I hope I said that right... I'm not so good with words and sometimes I go on a tangent..... lol

For Tara and Willow, nope! I loved them together because they really fit. It was one of the few ships that felt natural to me. Tara grew a lot around Willow, and Will did too(even though it took a dangerous road in s6). It's too bad that Joss had to destroy an happy couple again. 🙄

Nope. There are plenty other lesbian relationships I see on tv that I just can not stand!!! Like Shane/anyone else on the L-Word. lol Kennedy and Willow was just, no, never, eww, and gross, and not meant for each other. Although I do have to mention that as hot as that sex scene was for them, I was so upset Willow and Tara never had a scene like that. I think it would have been hotter 😀

I was mostly drawn to Tillow at first because of Willow. I had a huge nerd crush on her. Then Tara came along and I was like move over Willow! Tara was something special for me (yes I know that sounds sad, don't judge!). The fact that I love both characters, and they both have the greatest chemistry together, just makes me love them even more.

I do agree with Cait though, I think a lot of Fuffy shippers only want them to be together because they are hot. Pshhhh big deal. Might as well ship Jaith 😉

Tara and Willow are great because they're Tara and Willow. Not because they're both women. It's because they love each other and that love is beautiful. I do think some of that beauty comes from their both being women. They *are* gorgeous. But I think that may just be because their softer sides are more available, if that makes sense. They're both comfortable with expressing their feelings in every way- music, eyes, smiles, words. And that might have something to do with their being all doubleX. But then again, maybe not. Either way, I don't love them *because* they're lesbians. I love them because they're them.

And as many people have pointed out. Kennedy and Willow were lesbians. Enough said.

I understand that it was the one of the first lesbian relationships on TV and there was probably a lot of controversy surrounding it I don't remember because I didn't watch Buffy back then when it aired... But for someone who saw the show after it aired (like me), there was absolutely no controversy surrounding Tillow. I mean the characters on the show handled it remarkably without controversy at all. The biggest problem I have with a lot of the gay relationships on TV and in the movies nowadays is that they often become the point of the movie/show. Either they're not "couple-y" enough or they're too "couple-y." Or the other characters treat them differently. With Tillow there was none of that. Tillow was a normal relationship. The other characters didn't treat them different because of their relationship and they didn't act to each other in a way most couples wouldn't. I get that the normalcy of Tillow was part of the controversy way back when... but I'm not sure it still exists... because of the normalcy.

Kennedy and Willow are lesbians and yet nobody likes their relationship...

I am sure that at the time plenty of people desperately wanted to love Tara/Willow because they were apparently the only lesbian couple on TV with decent amount of screen time but I think most of the people who ended up liking it did it because they found it enjoyable, not just because it was the only option that fit their criteria. Many liked it so much they still hate Joss for killing Tara. 🙂

I loved them because, IMO, it was the only true love that lasted. Yeah, Tara died, but I happen to think, had she not, Tillow really WOULD have been forever. Right into little-old-ladyhood.

I don't love Bangel simply because they're a straight couple. I love them because they were a really great couple, until the end.

Call me weird, but I never saw Willow and Tara together as much two lesbians as I saw Willow fall in love with a gentle, kind, sensitive person. Gender never entered into it. Willow said it herself whan Kennedy asked her when she first knew that she liked girls. "It wasn't girls. It was ONE GIRL. Tara." That, to me, was why I never saw Willow/Kennedy as anything but Willow being confused, lonely, and vulnerable. To me, about the only difference between Kennedy and Parker is that at least Parker didn't drag anything out with Buffy. Willow and Kennedy would have been a great one night stand, with Willow waking up the next morning and realizing that, even with the tongue stud, there just wasn't any sort of spark between her and Kennedy.

I agree with your point about Tara being an exception, the Kennedy relationship definately came across as being forced.

The fact that BtVS had a lesbian couple on it and aired the first lesbian kiss on network TV may have sparked some interest in the show but I don't think it had any effect on whether or not people continued watching or became Tillow fans.

TheVoid68 disagrees: Faith and Buffy are soulmates. They'd be my BtVS OTP if they were as ugly as sin.

That's why I said sometimes feel like a lot. Not all. Not always. I can see why people ship them.

I found it interesting because it was such a normal relationship on a show filled with chaos, violence, and abnormality. The two of them just had a normal relationship, they just happened to both be women. I think the first half, the normalcy among the chaos, is what draws a lot of people to them. That and the tragic ending to the relationship makes you feel for Willow and that may also add to the mystique.

This is going to sound stupid but I honestly kinda forgot that Willow and Tara were lesbians.

They were just a couple. My mind never prefaced the word couple with "lesbian" or "same sex" or anything like that for them. There was certainly nothing salacious about them being together. At least not in my mind.

I can understand where Cait is coming from with Fuffy though. I can see them in some hot love/hate relationship but I can't see anything past that. I think they would burn out eventually.
