lol I would pay dam good money to see an 80yo Buffy use a walker to stake vampires!

To me, it just sounds like she's politely trying to say that there will never be a movie made though.

I can see her point. She's closer to 40 now than 30 and she's had two children - like it or not, her body just isn't the same as it once was. Though I will say that it would be easier to cover it up for Buffy than it would be for Angel, Spike, Illyria, etc. They managed to shoot around Scarlet Johanson's pregnancy for the Avengers, it wouldn't be any different to shooting around SMG for something like a Buffy movie.

I would like to see her go back to Buffy one day, playing an older version of the character, maybe guiding younger Slayers or something, someone not so in the field anymore, allowing Buffy to have the life she always wanted, which the comics sure as hell aren't giving her. And Joss did say he would be willing to kick the comics canonity out the window if a movie opportunity ever came up.

Well, Linda Hamilton was 35 when she did Terminator 2, Michelle Yeoh was 39 when she did Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Milla Jovovich is 40 and about to do another Resident Evil movie, Gina Torres was 36 when she did Serenity and Sigourney Weaver was 48 when she did the last Alien movie. Sarah's 37 does not seem particularly old in comparison.

It's just a way to dodge the question, IMO. "Oh, sure, I'd like to, but..." She wasn't too old when she first said that, which was years ago. She's not too old now. Buffy's human. She ages.

She probably just has no interest in it. The way Buffy fans are, you can't say that outright, though. I don't think any of the main players are terribly interested in it, including Joss.

This is definitely a contributing factor, and quite likely the major factor for Sarah. In the early years following the end of the show, she made a point of disassociating the role/persona of Buffy as much as possible, which is totally understandable. She wanted to be seen as a a versatile actor, able to play a variety of roles, not just the superhero demon fighter. She stayed away from Buffy and everything connected with it as much as possible, while hoping for the breakaway role that never came. Now, even if she wanted to play the role, I seriously doubt that she would be physically capable of doing it.

On the other hand, if Joss were to ever get enough free time and have the desire, she could furnish the voice for a full length animated BTVS movie, or even a series of them.

I don't believe for a minute Joss has any intention of doing a Buffy series or movie. Which is not to say he has no interest in the universe. Buffy Summers the character? Nah. He'll do Fray before Buffy. Sure, he did comics when he was at a career lull. He's since chased every shiny object on the horizon and has been 'too busy' writing, producing, directing any/everything else to even write an issue.

I do think she'd voice a character. The reason she didn't do it before (or so she claims) was they wouldn't show her the scripts before signing on. Legitimate complaint if true. But again, I don't see it happening. It's still owned by Fox and as you can tell from the farce that is their HD remaster, they don't care about the show.

Stories like this make me laugh. They're always played like "Actress destroys fans' hope" and so many people eat it up.
It's like when a load of people were having a go at Lisa Kudrow because she said a "Friends" movie wasn't happening. Like she destroyed it, even though what she said was totally right as nobody was writing it or had any intention of doing.

I think generally there's a belief that actors have far more power than they actually do.

Given the kind of Money that Joss is obviously making now, and the power that he has with Marvel Studio, I think that the only possible hope for anything new happening in the Buffyverse beyond the comics would be if someone else did it and Joss only served as Executive Director. If that should actually happen, I would prefer that it be with an entire cast, all new characters, all new story line, with no involvement whatsoever by Sarah, James, David, or any of the TV characters. Fray would be good, or maybe a period piece about some Slayer from the past. Whatever it is, it should most importantly be new, not something tied very closely to the original series.

I would totally see SMG play Buffy at any age! Like @Blaze said, I want an 80 yr old Buffy staking vamps with a walker. That'd be awesome! I think she just doesn't have an interest. After Avengers 2 Joss said that he wants to take time off working and relax for a while. So maybe with this down time he would consider coming back to Buffy. But it's not something we need, I just want it anyways. lol. What reunions is she talking about though? When Seth Green and Michelle Trachtenberg come over to hang? I want the full cast to do a reuion again.

I think she's too old.. plus, it would sort of be a regression. Considering Ringer and Crazy Ones, it might also seem like admitting the reason Buffy did so well was less about her and more about the material. Her going back to the role would further cement her forever as Buffy.

I wonder, if they were to do a Buffy movie, how they'd work around the comics' canon.

Joss has said many times that he would dismiss the comics completely if he ever decided to do a movie. He admitted that the comics were so big and outlandish was because they got carried away with the fact that they were writing their show without a budget. A movie would make them reign that in, which would mean a lot of the stuff in the comics would have to be rejected because it would no longer tie up. A cartoon, however, they'd be able to keep that same level of...outlandishness.

Ah okay, I figured that'd probably have to be the case.

Haha, this is just about the only thing that makes me want a movie.

There is two ways to look at this. Firstly like some have said maybe she is distancing herself from the role, or its possible that she is saying that because each Slayer has a limited shelf life that it would be hard for her to pull Buffy crediblly at her age. I don't think that of course. Despite agreeing with what Mr. Pole said (well there's a first time for everything😛) I don't think it would be the same if anybody else played the role. I thought there was already a Buffy movie in the works anyway, just that it was unlikely to feature Whedon?

They ordered a script for a reboot, but if I heard correctly they didn't like what they got.

She is not old . She could definitely do it. As long as she is healthy.

If Sigourney Weaver isn't too old to play Ripley, then Sarah isn't too old to play Buffy!

In this case, it isn't as much a question of Sarah being old as much as that she is oldER. Playing the Slayer is a very physically demanding job, and there is a limit as to just how much action can be performed by a stunt double without it becoming very obvious. Even a top athlete like Chuck Norris cut way back on his action scenes in the last few seasons of "Walker," plus completely changing his fighting style in the last few years of the series, almost completely cutting out his signature spinning wheel kick in favor of jujitsu throws and take downs and basic boxing techniques, leaving the spectacular stuff to his younger cast members. Buffy doing that just wouldn't be Buffy, unless, like Batgirl in "Birds Of Prey," Buffy had some sort of injury or ailment that kept her out of the fight.

Segourney Weaver's Ripley never has, and almost certainly never will, perform the kind of action scenes that we would expect Buffy to do. Once more, her fight scenes have always involved guns, flame thrower equipped exoskeletons. That involves more CGI than martial arts, and her stunt doubles are needed only occasionally.

Exactly.

Not to mention the 1000lb gorilla in the room. What would a Buffy (current universe Buffy) be like without Angel and Spike. Both Boreanaz and Marsters have said they can no longer play the vampers (even if they wanted) so their exclusion, even if written off, would still be the element to take you out of the movie. I do not believe, unless you reboot it, you can have a Buffy movie without either Angel or Spike.

Then of course, the possibility that Nicholas Brendon could have difficulty getting and keeping his part, you might have a Buffy movie without Angel, Spike and Xander. So... yeah, I think Sarah saying she is too old is a way to say it wont happen.
