Too old for Buffy

I'd like to think that you are right, but I just got the impression that Buffy was a much bigger show in the states than over here where it has more of a cult following. Plus it just would sit uneasy the norm of having special themed episode of Eastenders on the show. Not that your idea didn't at least catch my attention that is🙂
 
I was thinking along the lines of the Doctor Who ones, like the one where they brought in Peter Davison's Doctor to meet David Tennant's. Nothing terribly serious or meaningful to the ongoing story... just a fun opportunity for people to see old favorites one more time.

Also, the show was kind of a cult thing over here, too. It was on the #5 network and never had a huge audience.
 
Am I the only one that doesn't care if Marsters and Boreanaz look older? I'll just suspend my disbelief and pretend that they still look young.

Its not something which they couldn't get around one way or the other. But if the actors don't want to be involved then that is fair enough. And I still think you could have a Buffy movie without them.

Nah, I don't think I'd mind really. I don't think David has changed all that much.
Besides, we had to suspend disbelief as far as vamps not aging is concerned anyway. Any vampires that spanned the shows: Angel, Spike, Dru, Darla etc. clearly aged. We just ignored it basically.
But I can kind of get why they may not want to do it. They were both heartthrob characters and that's a lot of pressure to live up to. Plus I can't see James rushing for a bottle of peroxide ever again.
 
To the original post SMG is just saying politely in so many words that she has no interest in reprising the role of Buffy any longer. Joss isn't interested either, he has moved on to bigger and more exciting things, so this is all moot. It's in the past. Only a reboot is a possibility at this point, which I think most of us would agree. A reboot could definitely happen at some point in the future...but I personally don't think it is quite time for that yet.

No I don't care either. I just want to see them play the characters again. Besides Angel s5 looks a lot older than Angel in s1 of Buffy. Plus I still think DB looks pretty good. JM is still cute but he's no where near in the same shape as Spike was.

Sadly I'm one of those fans who would mind. To me it would just be absolutely ridiculous to have them play 20-something vampires, no matter the amount of make up or special effects... and I can't blame them for not wanting to go back to that either.

I'd love to see all of the cast together in other various projects but for me a real physical Buffy reunion would have to be some kind of parody, like a sketch.
The original cast in a movie is a ship that has sailed; in my opinion. And that's not saying that their age would make it impossible to do those kind physical parts (like people pointing out earlier in the thread that other older actresses have been kick-ass heroines) but that the actors have simply matured past these specific roles, physically as well as mentally.

It would be like the Star Trek movies where the cast were obviously older, it worked for some people, not for others.
Animated Buffy would be awesome.

Or, a spinoff in that universe. It wouldn't, or couldn't, be the same cast. Not exactly the same. If there was a spin-off in that universe it would probably be about different characters, with some of the older characters. Things change, in the series itself the cast changed and that's one of the only constants of the 'verses. Change.

I think that SMG could play an older Buffy, and I think that it could be interesting. With the vamps it might be pushing it a bit, unless they had a storyline that they turned human or something to that effect.
 
The time for film continuation of the series has long since passed. There are just too many reasons against it now. Not least being the same reason they've always said that Buffy works better as a series.

I've bought into the comics now so I'm happy with that continuation. I'd love them to adapted into an animated version and voiced by the original actors though though.

I have no interest in a reboot for the foreseeable future. Maybe in another 20 years or so.
 
I have no interest in rebooting anything, ever. People should come up with new stories and new ideas, not re-hash old ones.

Yeah I think this is pretty much the best option. I'd love to see the comics adapted into animated versions with the original cast giving their voices to it all. It's actually a realistic expectation, given everybody's busy schedules.
It would give the writers a chance to amybe tweak/clarify some of the storyline choices and give the actors to play their old characters again. 🙂
 
but animation takes a LONG time.. I thought Cumberbatch took a year or so to do Penguins. I remember him talking about ten months later he was going in a still doing lines and couldnt remember how he did them the first time. I think doing an animated 'series' would be very long process considering schedules.
 
I have no idea how practical it would be but it's what I'd be happy with. Like @thetopher says use the comics as your starting point, add in a bit more dialogue and smooth out some of the rough edges and I think it would be great fun. They did try the motion comics but that looked bad to me. Moving still images and different voice actors, no interest there for me.

Generally speaking voice acting takes no time at all. Seth Green does it all the time in 'Robot Chicken', same with SMG and MT. Eliza did 'Hulk & the Agents of Smash' in between doing other things.

When a lot of the cast (ASH, RS, ED, JM, NB) did voice acting for the video game 'BtVS: Chaos Bleeds' it just took a long weekend to read through the scripts and a lot of them seemed to have a lot of fun in the process. I can't see it being that much different with the comic book scripts; add some additional dialogue, a few extra quips/jokes, tighten the storyline in some places and widen it in others. I see real possibilities.

Thats what I always thought, so it really surprised me hearing all these actors saying it took so long to do... unless its just because it was a pixar dreamworks. And they wanted to take the time to do it right.

I don't know. I'm generally not a fan of reboots and agree that originality would be better. Sometimes it makes sense though. A good idea done badly could deserve a reboot, or just a great old show that deserves a new audience.
 
Isn't it just the animation itself which can take a long time rather than the Voices. I too wouldn't mind seeing a Buffy animation series.
