Second season of tru calling

I read on a website that Tru Calling has been picked up for a second season...I don't know anything about other countries, but the info I got was for the USA.

TC has not been renewed. I confirmed that the rumor on EDO was false with someone on the TC production staff. That person said back in march things looked good for a renewal as long as TC's ratings stayed at the current level or increased slightly. The problem is back in March, TC's ratings were increasing due to decreased competition on Thursdays.

Last week TC had it's lowest # of viewers since November. This week the AI lead-in will help, but there might be a huge drop off. That drop off killed shows like Cracking Up and Oliver Beene. After this week, Friends starts their final episodes, which will be hugely hyped.

Also, Fox is not announcing their fall schedule like everyone else in May. They'll be announcing their summer schedule. So there's a possibility that we won't even know if TC has been renewed. Or it could be renewed then cancelled depending on how Fox's summer lineup does. Fox is going to be launching 4-6 new scripted shows during the summer. Last year Fox had 3 shows they announced for their fall schedule that ended up canceled before going into production or never airing any of their episodes. So even if it is renewed, it's not all good. Of the 2 sophmore shows on Fox this year, both have been canceled.

Fox has also quietly renewed shows they haven't annouced renewed at an upfront presentation, since they wanted to avoid criticism for canceling critically acclaimed shows and keeping shows that critics hate. Several years ago a family member of mine spent two days thinking the reality show they worked on had been canceled just because Fox didn't have the guts to announce it was coming back at their upfront presentation. Fox is pretty classless about this.

If Fox cancels Arrested Development (after canceling Wonderfalls), then renews TC (which has lower ratings then shows like Firefly, Dark Angel, John Doe, Fastlane, Andy Richter, Family Guy, Futurama Lone Gunmen and countless other shows), they're going to get absolutely blasted.

A friend of mine who worked on Fastlane went into an obsenity laced tirade on hearing TC was picked up for 7 additional episodes. I can't imagine what's she'd do if she heard TC was renewed with lower ratings then her show. It's going to burn at lot of bridges with tv producers angry about double standards, so Fox is going to be very cautious about the announcement.

But Fox is down so far this year that they might renew bubble shows like TC and Arrested Development when most years they'd be cancelled immediately.
 
Jesus why don't they bring back Fastlane then? Now there was a good show...but I digress.

FF - so do you think they will announce a renewal/cancellation during upfronts and then if its a renewal maybe still cancel over the summer, or do you think they will say nothing at all?

I really don't know what Fox is going to do at their upfront presentation. They might renew some bubble shows, maybe for only 13 episodes for midseason, only for the sake of having backups if their new shows fail. If they don't, then we might end up with TC in a situation like Oliver Beene and Wonderfalls where there's no place on the schedule except bad timeslots where they're quickly canceled.

Fox has been burned too many times by not renewing bubble shows and having their replacements die quick deaths. So they can't put too much faith in all these new summer shows.

For example on Friday nights, they canceled Police Videos (averaging 8 million viewers), replaced it with Dark Angel (which averaged 6.5 million viewers) replaced that with Firefly (averaged 4.5M), then replaced that with Wanda at Large and Luis (averaged 4M). John Doe averaged 6M viewers, and now Wonderfalls only had about 4 million and Forever Eden 2.5M in that timeslot last week.

Maybe for once Fox is going think about keeping something lower rated to stop the downward spiral.

Fastlane was canceled because it was too expensive. It was made by Warner Bros, who didn't want to pick up any more of the production costs. If it was a Fox show, it might have stuck around. Why John Doe was canceled is the biggest mystery. It was a cheap show that did reasonably well in it's timeslot. It's premiere had the best numbers in that timeslot since X-Files. Had Fox kept John Doe around as a midseason replacement, at least they would have had something to replace their failed shows like Skin, Luis and Wanda At Large with when they flopped.

I think that could be the real saving grace of TC. Fox can't keep canceling shows.

The typically mentality at Fox is if something isn't an immediate hit, they move on to some pilot they think is going to be huge. I worked on the very unsuccessful Save Freakylinks campaign and was told by someone at Fox it was pointless. After 3 episodes and the show still being in production, Fox executive were hearing pitches for ideas of shows they'd replace it with.

Fortunately, there's someone at Fox keeping TC on the air no matter what. Hopefully they'll keep doing that.

Lone Gunmen (the X-Files spinoff) - 6.37 Million

Family Guy - 4.51 Million

The current average number of viewers for Tru: 4.52 Million. So it has overtaken Family Guy.

Demographics are more important than overall number of viewers, but it shows how popular the show was and the ratings bar Fox seems to have set.
 
I've been keeping track of TC over at futon critic as they keep a record of what shows have been renewed etc but so far there hasn't been anything.
 
It should so be renewed, after seeing 1 episode I am hooked and it should last more than 1 season for defaint!
 
It looks like Fox is close to canceling another show. Bernie Mac, which hasn't done very well since moving to Mondays, has been put on hiatus in favor of reruns of American Idol specials. Bernie had been averaging 7.8 million viewers, but only had 4.59 million last week.

So far, Fox has only officially renewed three shows - Simpsons, King of the Hill and That 70's Show. There's been market research about 24 Season 4, which will probably will happen but it's still up in the air since Kiefer may not come back. The OC is a lock to be renewed, as is Malcolm In the Middle, America's Most Wanted and Cops. After that, who knows what Fox is going to do. Most of their 2003-2004 lineup has already been canceled. So they'll either go to 75% reality, start over with a whole bunch of new scripted shows or be forced to renew bubble shows like TC.
 
i am getting different answers for a second seson of TC. TvTome seems to think it will happen (although often, they are wrong), as do others, even Eliza Dushku Online.

Spoiled Rotten is stopping our coverage of Tru Calling, since none of our editors are watching the show.

The consensus is that the writing of the show is so lacking in any regard for logic, that Tru Calling doesn't deserve any coverage by our site. The writers are clearly putting no effort into the scripts, so why should anyone put any effort into a spoiler site? They regret wasting their time even covering it to begin with. The show deserves to be cancelled.

Very very Uncalled for 😡 , If they don't want to support Tru-Calling Spoilers on their site then they can keep it to themselves, theres no reason they need to go around and bash the writers of the show. Frankly I'm glad that their not going to support Tru-Calling on that site, The show doesne't need to rely on Sites like that anymore

Thankfully that is not the opinion that is shared by the majority, I only go to one site for my spoilers and thats SpoilerFix, as I know there is a good team behind it who would not stoop to the level of the above.
 
That is pure cheek. After 1 episode I think it is marvellous how could people hack at it!

Fox's new fall lineup will come a little early this year. How early? How does "late spring" sound?
In a move that was expected though dramatic because of the sheer volume of new shows involved, Fox will launch a prime-time schedule in June that "marks the first full phase of a year-round plan that will include additional series launches in July, September, and January," the network said yesterday.
