Any "True Blood" fans here? I just started watching it, as I don't have HBO but Season 1 is now out on DVD.

I am LOVING it! -it's not quite Buffy/Angel YET.... but I am really digging the vampire lore & the way they're treating it & all the different characters.

Oh, & Twilight sux. :lmao: (just kidd'n, Twilight-fans!!!!):whistle:

I watch it but even though I wouldn't say that I love it I went through all first season just having to watch the next episode. So that's saying something. And a show that grows the love for swedes can never be wrong. 😛 And it's fun to even hearing swedish on the show. Give me a break. We're a small country, we find those things "funny".


edit: I think it would be fun if someone beats me to it. 😀

True Blood rocks! I'm still trying to talk the hubby into HBO and Showtime but I do get my fill online. Even if it is annoying trying to find a working link. But I love the raw feel of the show and how they can do damn near anything they like. It's absolutely refreshing!

Ok, now back to the real subject...
 
We don't have HBO, but there are several places on the internet where it can be see. I've tried watching it a few times, but for some reason, I've just never been grabbed by the storyline. Maybe I'm just getting jaded on heroic vampires.
 
Never read the books. Just recently started watching the series (have HBO, never thought to tune in). It's pretty good.
 
Aaaah, tonight's episode was SO GOOD! In fact, it might have been the best one so far!

Since I know a lot of people don't have HBO and haven't seen it yet, I won't say anything too spoilery and I'll post the rest of my comments later, but there are a couple fairly general things that I wanna address while I'm still excited over them. First off, THERE WAS ANOTHER BUFFY REFERENCE! Jason's friend called him a "Muslim Buffy with a dick" and I laughed, then squeed a little. Also, I've always loved Eric, but now, he's my favorite character by a long shot. He's totally reminding me of Spike, which makes me and my pants very happy.
 
Ah, I wanna see. Anna Paquin is one of my fav actresses. So how's the vampire different from in BtVS? It's important to know before watching it. 🙂

I just watched the second episode of season 2 and I wasn't sure I heard it right.

Was sure that someone at BB would have picked it up though 🙂

I have seen the first few episodes and love it. Very cool show with an interesting mythology. I love the idea of vampires trying to assimilate into human society. As soon as I get a job and actually have some money, I plan on renting and watching the rest of S1.

You should definitely check it out, especially if you're an Anna Paquin fan...in fact, I know a lot of people who can't stand her, but love the show regardless.

As for the vampire lore, it's not completely different from Buffy's, but it's definitely not the same. Like the Buffy vamps, they have super strength and speed, heal fast, burn up in the sunlight, and are killed by wooden stakes to the heart (although instead of turning into dust, they pretty much explode into a giant puddle of blood...it's really gross). The main differences are that the True Blood vamps don't get hurt by crosses, holy water, etc. (they are, however, burnt by silver), they have reflections, and there are more "good" vamps, since the soul thing isn't quite as clear-cut (they make it clear that they're pretty much evil by default, but some, like Bill, decide to "mainstream," meaning that they are pretty much "out" as vampires and live among humans drinking synthetic blood called Tru Blood). Also, in case that last little bit didn't give it away, humans know vampires exist...if you watch the show, they go into it a lot more.

LOL, sorry...putting my little bias in there. Anyway, if y'all knew already, ignore. I know some people have a different name there than here, I'm one of them. If you didn't know, then definitely check out the forum if you're in to the show!
 
I'm about 2/3 through the first book yet. Haven't really wanted to finish it; I guess because it seems to be getting into romance and stuff. Not that that's bad or whatnot, but not really what I wanted to read. I'll finish over the weekend though I suppose.

I watched the first episode and liked it quite a lot, but haven't seen anymore. I figured I ought to finish the book first. My dad, though, borrowed my copy of "Dead After Dark" before I finished it--he finished it in a few days. I bought him the 2nd book while I was in Target and he finished that one during his business trip, now he's asking about the other ones. That's another reason I want to get into it more: we typically have similar tastes (I still haven't been able to get him into Buffy much, although I think he likes Angel and Firefly).
 
Holy crap! Anyone see the last episode. I can only imagine the thing wont go off, else pretty much everyones dead. Unless they pull a little of hollywood and make the giant bomb strapped to his chest just a small explosion. Still....a GREAT episode.

Anyway, I think I best stay out of this thread since there is a book with all the answers and people are already hinting at spoilers I dont want to know.
