Trump - the Republican candidate

Blaze,
I hope you understood about the American voting system, if you did can you explain it to me.

I'm not fussed who gets in, Clinton or Trump. Either way America seems stuffed.
Thing is which country will take its place as world leader?

I think @Blaze is just pretending to understand like everyone else. The emperor has no clothes!

Is someone inferring the emperor is having a bad hair day?
I'd take Clinton over Trump, any day, but would prefer Sanders. Unfortunately even if Bernie were to win, he'd still have to deal with Congress & special interest groups. Even in this day and age where the president was broader powers, he would still be limited on what he could actually achieve. 🙁

Oh it went right in one ear out the other! Heck, who needs to understand the system, in Canada I just voted for the hot guy.

Oh, I didn't know a fireman had tried for office.
I voted for the guy with the bad beard, clearly the best candidate so of course unlikely to win. Hot guy was my second choice though so I'm not totally heart broken. I got my local orange crush on.

@Blaze anything but Harper, a national strategy to unify a country! I'm sure we can all bond again when we're out on the border building our wall to keep the riff raff out. But we should totally provide asylum for the sane ones trying to escape.

Actually I also wanted Tom Mulcair to win, I would have voted for him but there was no way NDP was winning in my district, and my #1 goal was to get Harper the hell out of there. Happy with Justin so far though!

Seriously! I've always been invested in politics (since I could vote at least), but I've never seen my generation so darn invested in an election, it's literally all that people would talk about. Who said that young people didn't vote again?

And trust me, I'll be the first to go and build that wall! And I won't share my heroin! (we'll offer safe passage of course to anyone running away from Trump)

In 2012 only 55% of American's voted. In 2015 68% of Canadians voted federally. Maybe the US system is so complicated people are losing interest? I thought the 68% was bad, but 55?

And I won't share my heroin!
well don't look at me, all we have in BC is weed.

I love John Oliver making fun of Canadians and our "grueling" 78 day election campaign.

68% is actually pretty average, much higher than the 59% in 2008!
People don't feel like their vote makes a difference, and most people don't really know what the candidates stand for, especially in the non-Presidential elections.

I'd take Clinton over Trump, any day, but would prefer Sanders. Unfortunately even if Bernie were to win, he'd still have to deal with Congress & special interest groups. Even in this day and age where the president was broader powers, he would still be limited on what he could actually achieve. 🙁

The president is limited by design. He is not supposed to be able to do whatever he wants through Executive Order, the way Obama does. We elect representatives to Congress for a reason, to check the power of the president and represent the interest of the people.

ILLYRIAN: Listen to his speeches, the media doesn't write his speeches they only try to make what he said sound worse.

I'm not saying he's not racist or sexist, I'm just saying, people shouldn't just parrot what the media tells them without seeing it for themselves.

Yes! Tax/immigrant/whatever policies are literally nothing, compared to the power structure. If the balance of power got ripped, no genius policies in the world can save a country.

Oh my... I just saw this.. it is a thing of nightmares and once you see it you cant unsee it... view at your own risk

The Slitheen's presidential candidate.
They say a goods politician is the biggest oxymoron there is. They're all dishonest and deceitful. And that's all politics, regardless of country.

I do have a soft spot for Obama though, he comes across as a genuinely nice guy just doing his best, but I don't live in his country, so maybe that's just his PR machine doing excellent work? 😉

Yes, it's his PR machine.

I have heard he is indeed genuinely a nice guy and he will actually go out of his way for his fans. But a nice guy doesn't mean a good president.

Marco come baaaaaack!

No, in all seriousness, Trump horrifies me because I have never heard or read a single thing from him (even before this election) that didn't make my skin crawl. The man makes me ill.

But people seem to like him - for different reasons, some genuinely seem to worship him like a god, some seem to think he's the lesser of evils - and for whatever else he's done he has certainly stirred the pot and made things interesting... in a reality TV show kind of way, but whatever engages people right? (Including me! I'm hooked, I'm gonna go cry bitter tears because Cruz has robbed me off a few more weeks of quality entertainment... although with Trump as candidate now the arguments between Kayleigh McEnany and Tara Setmayer might just reach soundbarrier breaking squealing so, I guess that could be something)

@Taake You should be feeling sorry for Fiorina. She is the biggest loser. Like I said, thats precisely why no one else wanted it! This is funny though.

Haha, the hand thing. You know that Simpsons thing... Buzzfeed got Cruz to twirl for freedom because he is in fact Kang or Kodos... Fiorina the other. Aliens unfamiliar with how humans touch each other...

It's a terrible state of affairs when Donald Trump gets to run for President and he was one of the more appealing candidates in amongst the Republican rabble. At least he's spoken out against the TTIP & TPP corporate power grabs and he's not entirely funded by special interest groups. Now we're left with a pair of liars. Hillary has taken huge amounts of money from banks and corporate backers who she will be working for. Trump will say anything and everything to get attention and votes. If he ever got to be President I doubt he'd even have a clue what he'd want to do.

Bernie Sanders comes across as a decent person with good ideas but he was always going to struggle. I've also seen suggestions that there's been some voting irregularities making it even harder for him. There's not going to be a good option to vote for if it's Trump v Clinton.

It's the first time I felt sorry for America. This looks like voting for the lesser of 2 evils, yikes. Maybe Trump has less chance because the last election saw women has the dominant voters. And he had insulted the 'woman card' in a speech already. Haven't a lot of republican politicians already said they will abstain from voting for a candidate if Trump is nominated?

Personally I just find it scary that both Trump and Clinton are even candidate material.
