True, but to the point where the author doesn't even have rules set up for her own universe? *shakes head* I really thought that they might've redeemed themselves, but nothing bad happens to the girl, she gets everything that she ever wanted and yet she whines and complains. Seriously.

Anyhow, Dawn isn't my favorite. I really like her in season five and six but in season seven she became really whiny and annoying.

Okay. All you Twilight haters, I understand what you're saying. Three weeks ago, I was a Twilight hater too. I'd read the first 150 pages and stopped, furious because there was no hint of a plot whatsoever--just a confused girl and a bipolar kid, doing the same things over and over again.
Through a long series of circumstances that will bore you, my friends convinced me to give it another go. On a day that I'd planned to spend studying for a test worth 25% of my final grade, I found myself taking more and more breaks, so I could read more of Twilight. Soon, I was reading over dinner with my mom on Parents' weekend, reading while walking to class, and staying out 'til 4 am... reading.
No, they're not classics, and they will never be classics. But, they are good nonetheless. They are slow to start, but when they pick up, they pick up. Meyer's writing style may seem elementary, but her ability for descriptions and for building tension is, I think, unparalleled (though I have to disagree with CF, the dazzling/dazzled line is meant to bring readers back to book one, where things were much simpler), and they are extremely addicting because of this.
So if you were like me and you didn't finish, know that you may not have seen everything there is to see. And if you're wondering about starting the books, accept them for the pleasure-books they are; don't expect them to be a work of great literature.
As for the movie, I can't wait to see it. It looks like it will be a good movie, from what I have seen. I plan on going into the movie not hoping for it to follow the book exactly, because that is next to impossible to do, but hoping for it to do the story justice in its own way.

I did finish them, actually. They were horrendous, though. Especially the last one. I banged my head on the table the most for that one.

She was just offering a little insight into the fact that you might hate them at the start and feel like you can't finish it, but if you continue on it, you might find you actually like it. That's all.
So she's like a normal teenage girl? Oh-em-gee, I hate when authors do that.
I've read the series about five thousand times (although I've only read the catastrophy that is Breaking Dawn once).
I went to the midnight release party for BD in Grand Rapids, MI and had a chance to meet Taylor Lautner (which I did not do, due to the fact that my most wonderful boyfriend in the whole world that hates every inch of books or vampires did not want to stay another hour, after sitting for three hours waiting for a book I could have purchased the next day)
I'll be sitting in the movie theatre the very first showing on opening day and I will probably watch it about five or six more times before it comes out on DVD, even if I think it has no resemblence to the book at all.

No, she's normal at first but once she comes to Forks she's the world's biggest Mary Sue, not to mention that she's interested in the Cullens only because they seem as hot as she is. Not to mention that the author over-exaggerates the weather in Washington. *rolls eyes*

She's actually interested in the Cullens because of the anomaly that they are. She originally notices the family and their appearance. But then, when she first has class with Edward and they have their first encounter, she is intrigued by what his problem is. She is not intrigued by the fact that he is good looking (and, by the way, she doesn't think that they are as beautiful as she is, because she does not perceive herself as beautiful.) She has definitely noticed that he is attractive, but she wants to know why his family looks the way they do.

I have to disagree with that. Sure, like Bella, most teenage girls don't go through any major catastrophes, but then again, none get everything they want like Bella does. She gets the husband, the baby, the family, the best friend, the sex, the looks, the superpowers, the immortality, the impossibly good resistance to the scent of human blood, the cars, the money, the dad...yeah. I'd like to wager that, even if Twilight mythology did exist, no one would ever be able to get all of that without having to make any major sacrifices.
That said, I never really said I didn't like Twilight. In fact, I love it. I just don't respect it. And I wouldn't consider myself a Stephenie Meyer fan by any means...I couldn't get into The Host at all.

I personally liked the books really. I thought them in a way trivial, but there was still something that urged you to read to the end and see how the story goes. It's obviously very American in style and a bit cheesy in a way, but it's okay and I would recommend reading the books, perhaps maybe having a look at the film first. For some odd reason I find the trailers look really impressive, but they give a way a lot about the story of the first book,

Yeah...I'm surprised by how spoilery the trailers have been.
I was surprised at how much the trailers give away as well, but since the plot doesn't pick up until the second half of the book, and plots are key for trailers, I've assumed that's the reason why. If it was a "what the heck is wrong with this bipolar kid and his weirdo family" trailer, it wouldn't do anything justice, you know?

Okay, I just watched two new clips...one was about one minute long (it's the one where Edward says, "What if I'm not the hero? What if I'm the bad guy?) and the other was eight minutes. (it's the scene where Bella first meets the Cullen family). Hurray, two new scenes that aren't the same James and Edward fight that they keep adding about three seconds to and calling a "brand new scene!"
The first one was pretty good. The dialogue fit the characters (although they did create a slightly edgier Bella, which was good. She was a definite pushover in the books), but Kristen sounded like she was about to cry the whole time. Rob was good, but he reminded me so much of Angel (especially when he first shows up and says "Bella" in a sort of hushed tone). I suppose that's a good thing, since Edward is quite a bit like Angel in his Buffy days. And, even though I usually just think he's okay, I have to say...he looks damn fine with the Edward hair and makeup. His American accent is a little bit spotty at times, though.
Now, for the 8-minute clip. As much as I'd like to say it was good, it was sort of...well, horrid. It was nice to see Jasper and Alice, but that's the only real redeeming quality. The acting was rather cringe-worthy, especially on Nikki Reed's part (well, Rob was pretty good...I loved his facial expressions), Robert and Kristen don't seem to have much chemistry (the scene where they dance together is a bit awkward, but to be honest, I'm not sure if that was intentional or not), and the "flying through the trees" thing after Edward grabs Bella and jumps out the window looks absolutely ridiculous, especially in a quick close-up shot that made me feel incredible amounts of second-hand embarrassment. Also, the sudden cut from the two of them in the trees to Edward playing the piano to her is way too cheesy. Let's just hope this is one of the worse scenes in the movie.

I have tried to resist from watching that 8 minute clip! It's killing me to not watch it!
I am liking the tv spots that were aired last week. There were 6 of them. As you said CF, a lot of them are the same scenes repeated and all that, but the 5th spot is awesome!

I am so excited that I finally get to weigh in on this one. So listen, when everyone was blathering on about Twilight I was all "what's Twilight" and then I would get shocked gasps that I truly had no idea what they were talking about. I want to take a quick side note to say that this so reminds me of the Harry Potter delirium that swept the nation. Oh how fickle we are 🙂 Anywho, my friends were like "why have you not read them" and I calmly explained that I had never heard of the books and had no idea what they were about. At this point I pretty much got hit upside the head for being so stupid as I am a huge fan of pretty much anything vampire related and how dare I not know about the series.
So, with that being said, I did some research to kind of get the gist of the books. My dear friend Britney explained that the books are geared towards younger readers but I was cool with that because I have loved/will love Harry Potter and that was meant for kids to so there you have it. She explains to me that she likes the books because she is a hopeless romantic and the tension between Edward and Bella is palpable. Also, I love teenage romance (Angel/Buffy duh) because it is so raw and at the same time can become so complicated because kids just don't have the maturity necessary to handle those kinds of really intense relationships which pretty much makes me love it even more. I totally love how when you are a teenager you can become so "in love" with a boy that you can't see straight. Ah, I remember those days. Anyway, I am totally into it.
I decided to jump on the bandwagon with the rest of the country and read the first book. Also, what is the series technically called because I know each book has a different title, just wondering? Anywho, I am at present about 240 pages into the first book and here are my first thoughts. Bella is annoying. I hate how she is so clumsy and awkward and weird and yet somehow she is attracting like the key guys at her new school. I get that she Is new in a small town but I am picturing someone who is more Willow season one versus Cordy season one, you follow. I do love that she seems very independent and somewhat mild mannered but at times angsty and I love angst. Now Edward is a whole different story. I will say that I love him so far. I love that he seems to really have these random conversations more with himself than with her and he is a delightful tease. I love the buildup. Side note, I like the actor they got to play Edward not only because he is heart throb worthy which is perfect considering the crowd these books were mostly intended for but he played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. Hooray!!!!
I have many unanswered questions at this point seeing as how I have not finished the book but I can tell you first, the book is very easy to read which is a nice departure from the more serious stuff I have been delving into lately. I welcome the change. Secondly, I cannot wait until they finally give in to carnal desire because when you are young and angsty it always leads to getting groiny. Or atleast it does in my head 😉 Thirdly, I will definitely see the movie not only because I want to see Robert but also because I live in Oregon which is just like a three hour drive from where the location of the book is based. I have even been to Forks which kinda makes it even cooler. So yeah, gonna go see the movie but I will finish reading the first book before I do so. I once made the mistake of seeing a movie before reading the book (Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and was horribly disappointed. And I'm spent.

Bella gives too much description of everything that happens. It would be better if it was toned down. Also I am not so convinced that Bella and Edward love each other, I think they are obsessed with each other. Bella hates not being around Edward and there is no moment that clarifies why they fell in love.
