I am surprised by how incredibly popular the series still is. I thought it would be dying down, but I guess not. I see someone reading one of the books on the bus at least every other day. It's crazy.

That's what happened to me with Harry Potter back in the day...she took SO long to release the fifth book after the fourth one that by the time it came out, I didn't care and still haven't read it to this day. 😛

Although maybe I just didn't care for Harry that much...since I can wait for pretty much anything else without my enthusiasm dampening...

I actually refuse to read these books, simply for the fact of how popular it got out of nowhere. I have no interest in taking part in another "Harry Potter" franchise money-gobbler bull honkey ordeal. Basically, if Hot Topic starts to sell it, I tend to STOP having interest in it because then it becomes about how popular it is instead of a genuine interest.

Hey, do you all know about the leaked draft for Midnight Sun? Apparently, some dumb kid hacked into Stephanie Meyers computer and posted the draft of the 5th book online. So, in response to this, she's so upset that she isn't going to finish or publish the last book. Midnight Sun is apparently Twilight from Edwards point of view.

She says on her website, "This has been a very upsetting experience for me, but I hope it will at least leave my fans with a better understanding of copyright and the importance of artistic control."

So my question is, fan or not,: Do you guys respect her decision to not publish the book because of this? Or do you think it's wrong for her to be "punishing" her fans in regard to this?

I'm just curious. Just found out about, found it interesting, and wonder what you all think.

It's like a whole publicity stunt so that all of her squeey fangirls can sign a petition to have it published and show the world their undying devotion. *rolls eyes* She was a really sweet person when she started out... and now?She's all about how much money she can make and the publicity and the "I want this CGI for the movie and only this actress to play Renesme." Honestly? *sighs* I hate it when fame does that to nice people.

We weren't expecting a classic, but honestly? We have enough wimpy heroines and Mary Sues in the books that we read nowadays, especially in YA novels. What Meyers's is doing is not only degrading to women, but takes feminism a huge step back for about 200 years. I'm too tired and sick to do the whole 'splainy thing all over again, so I'll get to that later.

Fame and fortune do that to people, but honestly? It would help if she at least tried to make it not so obvious. I mean, JK Rowling's famous and everything, but even though it gets to her, at least she has charities and all that. What does Meyers have? Funds to her own things and squee-ey fangirls? *snorts*
I dunno. It'll be so weird... and creepy... I read in the news she already has one actress that she wants to play the child... talk about obsessed.

Yep. I saw her on some TV show too, and she seemed really unintelligent and vapid. I can't recall anything memorable she said, actually.

I think the opposite, actually. I've always thought she came across as taking her books WAY too seriously...it seems like she doesn't realize that they're mindless, rather poorly-written teen romance novels and instead thinks that they're future classics. Oh, and I felt immensely uncomfortable watching her interview on Ellen.

I think people should try everything. I thought it was gonna suck simply because everyone else liked it, and I'm not much for the bandwagon, but I tried it and ended up liking it. It's really good, and it would make me feel all giddy inside if you read it. 🙂

Haven't you ever thought, "Huh, I wonder WHY this is so popular?" Well, it's gotta appeal to some people. Maybe you're one of those people. 🙂

Ferg, I have read the books. All four, unfortunately. As a result of this, I choose to make a informed judgement of them; they're poorly written, cliche, anti-feminist, and mind-numbing. I'm not saying I did not enjoy them in a self-involved perverse way, but I am aware of their many, many flaws.

I hope someday I write a better saga and make tons of money lol

"People like me"? Categorize others if you want but I just think it makes you look rude, and I don't care what you think. I know what I like and don't like and even if I hadn't done my research of the books/movie before now then this thread has shown me all I need to know TO KNOW that it's NOT something I would personally be interested in. You really don't have to be the books advocate, people will make their own decision without ""People like you"" disapproving with their reasons to not like it.

I was very upset about Midnight Sun. I mean, I've never had anything published, so I don't know a lot about being a writer, but I felt like it was a total slap in the face for the fans. Her original statement was along the lines of... "You guys read my personal manuscript because you want to read it so bad, you don't care about my feelings, and so now I'm not going to write it to teach you a lesson." It was total crap. I am sure that Little Brown will make her write it and publish it because they are going to want all the money.

As for her personally, I do not care for her. I watched several interviews around the time Breaking Dawn came out. She really is a weird person, the way she talks about her characters and writing. And making up a bunch of garbage about this crazy kid that came into the series, even though she stated many times before that vampires cannot have children. Plus, I cannot stand her novel The Host. I guess you could say I like the Twilight series and that's it. 🙂

Spuffyy disagrees: Everyone is an individual and while I agree that people can't speak for others, I believe people can be ready that young.

I'm sorry Spuffyy, but as someone who has been in that age bracket not too long ago...17-year-olds do not have the maturity, the worldliness, or the life experience to REALLY be ready to make a life-long commitment. There's a reason why there's a higher divorce rate among people who marry young.

Also, I was simply saying that before "refusing" to do something you should try it first. It wasn't a personal attack, and I'm sorry if it came off that way.

I just witnessed a disturbing conversation I felt compelled to stop proofreading my paper to tell you all about..

I just overhead a girl saying she was reading Twilight in her Classics of Modern Literature class and that she thought Twilight was "definitely a new classic in the making".

AHH.

I am so....disturbed. Calling Twilight a "classic" is like so, so so wrong. What professor would assign that book as an example of good modern literature???
