BD Horror News - New 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Feature Film a Possibility?

"TWILIGHT has either done us a major service or disservice, depending how you look at it. Courtesy of the success of Summit Entertainment's teen vampire drama, it looks like a brand new BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie could be in the works, according to a newspaper in Australia (hard to consider it a credible source, although they have broke a few big pieces of news in the past). Read on for the news and feel free to chime in on the story - is horror heading in the wrong direction?

Our good friends over at Moviehole.net discovered the following in the Herald-Sun Newspaper:

"The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role."

We'll keep you posted if anything new develops..."

OMG Im so exicted thank god for twilight but hopefully its Buffy Buffy and not some new chick.
Hopefully Joss doesn't read the comments there and actually does a remake cause my god i'de be horrified lol i really want this to be a S8 film more than anything how about you guys.

Thanks hun! :)
See, that's the problem. The way I heard it there is no way SMG is ever going to resume her role as Buffy, and without her...I'm sorry,it's just not the same. Although we might of course maybe still hope for some other familiar faces.

If it's not SMG it's not Buffy!
I don't think the Twilight success will directly affect the production of a Buffy movie, but, combined with the success of series like True Blood, it is possible that teenagers' increasing interest in vampires will lead to more people discovering Buffy, falling in love with it, and eventually lead to more interest in a movie. Still, the idea of the series being rebooted in movie or TV form is becoming more unrealistic as time passes, and right now, it seems like the only way we'll get more Buffy is if, in 20 years, someone decides to make a new, much crappier version of it.

That said, if some miracle happens and a movie is made with a good script and the original cast, I'll be able to die happy.

The last we heard on the subject from the horses' mouths Whedon said he wouldn't do anything Buffy without the original actors. SMG makes ambivalent statements, but reading between the lines they interpret into "No Way". This rumor therefore sounds less than credible at this time.

However...there's this guy who interjects himself into Whedonverse rumors from time to time. I forget his name...Richard something or other.

His last scam was, he said Fox owns the TV series rights to Buffy, but the guys who made the original Buffy movie (the Kazuis) own the movie rights. He produced an outline to a movie he claimed he was working on for the Kazuis, and said he would make it without SMG, or Whedon.

That was years ago. It never happened. It looked like another one of Dick's frauds. He's had others including Spike returning to Angel as a male slayer. But what if there was something to the idea of the Kazuis holding the movie rights. Often lies have a germ of truth at their core. Could the Kazuis do a Buffy movie? That would suck.

I just read this on BD and came straight here to see if it was posted lol. Anyway it's a little light at the end of our tunnel, but i donno if it will happen, i bloody hope so though. SMG still looks really young and would be awesome if she reprised as Buffy, JM looks older, but could still pull it off, everyone else looks good though, but who knows, we can all just cross our fingers anyway.

Not to mention NB looks older i mean he already has some gray growing
Didn't SMG once say she'd only be Buffy if it were a film just like DB said for a Angel film?

Not exactly. During her promo tour for the Grudge she was looking to reconnect with Buffy fans, and she said something like if Joss wrote a script she'd read it. It sounded more like diplomacy than interest in a Buffy movie.

She said something recently at Paleyfest. I forget exactly how it went, but it sounded to me like "Nah...not interested."

*weeps* ive not seen the Twilight movie I really hope they ain't guffed it up or I will be sad . I think if they where going to make a proper Buffy movie it would have been done by now.

I think Sarah would return if the script was good. She was willing to attend the paley event which was a surprise. And not like her movie career is huge right now. I say she would stick to her word about the script being good=her returning for the role.

But ofcourse its more up to Joss than anyone else and I dont think he is interested in making a Buffy feature film right now. He is the one who always goes on about the stars will never align correctly for a film to be made.

And if James returned, if he dyed his hair back to plat.blonde it would make him look so much younger than the brunette curly hair he has goin on.

IMO if SMG is willing to do these really bad pointless horror films she's been in i think she'd be willing to do something
like this that us fans want.

From what I've heard on the TV, quite a few of the main actors talk about the TV series as it was good, so why risk spoiling a good thing, and they'd like to progress as an actor.

Will they make another Buffy movie? good question, if the promo is good enough - maybe along the lines of, ' after Buffy there was .........'
It doesn't have to be called Buffy it could be called Faith, if there's any similarity the critics will call it a Buffy film.

It might be me here but didn't Dollhouse have a break to improve the scripts? was the break long enough to make a film? [that just a wild fanciful thought, I mean would Joss do that to the fans of the show? ]
If it does or doesn't happen, there's still the memories of the TV series or the comics.

(7) The old ones of the past to hear did wander,

I keep reading BD wrong, it's getting mondo confusing. It would be awsome if they finally sorted out this Bangel/ Spuffy crap, it's really starting to get on my nerves, despite my willingness to get involved in the arguments.
ooh. I would LOVE it to be about Faith!!!

anyway...I'm off to watch E. Daniel Radcliffe complaining about Twilight....

Don't get me wrong, I love SMG. She is a brilliant actress, hot, and incredibly smart. Despite this, I so badly want to say GET OVER IT. Ya, we understand you don't want to be type cast, and that you want to mature into better roles. Honestly though, there has not been one single good work from SMG since Buffy. It isn't her acting ability, it is just that the movies are terrible. Going back to play Buffy for at least one more time would be good! It would get her name back in the press, it would allow her to show her chops again, and I am sure she'd get paid big bucks for it! Plus, entertainers are always talking about how important their fans are. Well her fans want her to be Buffy! She can obviously play a myriad of roles, but she has type casted herself as a scream queen. Buffy didn't do that, she did it. I am not bashing SMG. She doesn't do herself justice. And a Buffy movie would be her chance to shine again!

Plus the movie would have to be made quick. Cause honestly even though they are all beautiful actors...age is becoming a factor. It was already obvious at the end of Buffy, that a few of the characters where showing their age. Again, it isn't a criticism everyone ages, but for a Buffy movie to happen it would need to be soon.

That's what I always say. Love SMG, but come on!

Same here, I greatly dislike how anti-(buffy)fan she seems to be, I think as an entertainer she's rather unfair to her FANS. I mean, hello, FANS!
Whilst I've got my fingers well and truly crossed that this comes off, I'm not going to hold my breath or start any time soon. Until somebody from within Joss' small circle lets it accidentally slip that production has actually started then I'm not going to get even the slightest bit excited about this rumoured project.

Don't get me wrong, I more than anyone else on the planet would love to see a BtVS / Angel based movie with all of the usual suspects, err... characters in it and if I had the skills to write a script for the thing myself I would have done it by now (same goes for a Ripper, Spike, Illyeria or any of the other characters from either series to be honest). Here's hoping though that somebody with the skills has already written a masterpiece of cinematic delight for us to drool over in the years to come and if they haven't started yet, let's hope that they pull their finger out and get cracking!

^^^I was watching A Hole In The World the other day, and I thought the exact same thing, Db and JM are starting to look their age *shakes bitchy thoughts about peroxide away*

I mean, don't get me wrong, they still look great. And true Buffy fans could probably easily look past that. It was just a thought 😉

Well its not really working against any of them since the movie wouldnt have to take place directly after S7. Make-up and blonde hair will make James look the same as he did in Buffy. And since David lost majority of the weight he put on during Angel he looks younger then he did during S4-5 of Angel.

Yeah just look at DB in BONES he looks young in it.

He looks SUPER HOT in it!
I want I want I want I want. *no coherent words* If this does happen, it will be the one good thing that Twilight has done.

Never heard the saying "I want never gets."? Almost never happens, well... not unless you're a good girl! ;)
What we need for a Buffy movie to go ahead.

Sarah Michelle Gellar to star in gawd awful movies so her career takes a downward turn - check
David Boreanaz to star in a TV show that gves him 3 monthsish off a year to make films - check
The rest of the cast to be free - check (inc Hannigan on the above Boreanaz proviso)
Whedon's new TV show to be a failure AND nothing major in the works- not quite check but we can see that coming
The comics to be a roaring success - can someone check that one for me?
Fantasy to be a very profitable genre - check
Heres the big one though:
The studios seeing this as a viable way to make ALOT of money - sadly no check and this one supercedes all the above.

Yeah but what I don't get is why on earth would Twilight and those cheesy little pre-teen books could equal success in film but Buffy wouldn't...
