ahahahah at least someone admitted it
I guess some of the outfits are a little *cough*...Okay, I have no word for it other than ugly. But, that bad clothes make the characters. Or at least, that's the excuse now.

I was the ep that had Xander in the bad orange top a view days ago! i was like what happened. What did happen to Xanders "style?" it went crazy after season 2 like they didn't really know how what look he was going for. That annoyed me -.-

What Lindsey said. Clothes on Buffy can be extremely, well, ugly but it's a combination of what was fashionable back then and an attempt to make them look more normal. I think a whole lot of the appeal of the charachters is that they look no different from the rest of us. If they were prancing about in extremely fashionable clothes, them hating Cordelia, for example, would be rather pointless as they would look like all those cool kids themselves. And it would be a lot harder for us to identify with a bunch of people wearing clothes we probably aren't even able to afford.

Actually, it's probably due to a lot of what my Mum always tells me when I'm leaving the house; school, or life for that matter, isn't a fashion parade. You don't dress up in your best and prettiest clothes just to leave the house; defiantly not for school, or to fight etc. And yeah, probably to do with making them normal. And about Willow and Tara's clothes, well that's kind of a pagan style, flowing skirts and stuff. The floral patterns and stuff, not so pretty, but ya know.

I actually like some of those pieces like Xander's striped sweatshirt, and the shirt Buffy has on in the first pic, and the shirt Willow has on in Chosen other than that yeah not so good wardrobe choices but hey it was the 90's and so I mean everyone wore clothes like that.

Oh I've seen worse than that for what those guys wore on Buffy, I think season 1 and 2 had some bad outfits like Buffy in the smallest dresses and skirt and for school I thought it was a bit trashy. But that was the fashion back in the 90's and as for the clothes in later years I think they were trying to keep them looking modern and fresh but without putting them in designer clothes. They wanted to keep it real, Im sure if the show was on the air now they'd be in very different outfits from that.

I think that for what it was and during the time period they actually dresses well. I've always found Buffy to be one of the best dressed shows on television. Each character had their own style and as the show progressed the better dressed everyone became.

Yes, good point, we all dressed like that. I remember one particular brown velour top Xander had on in an early episode that sent a bunch of painful fashion memories whooshing to my head.

Nah, everyone does it. It made them more real that they didn't look stunning every ep.

Totally agree on this one. I really hate that some shows have their cast all done up constantly, especially in clothes that the character could never really afford.

Buffy's shirt in that first pic is actually not too bad - I would wear that to work.

Agreed about the shirt, just don't wear the expression too!
I am recalling a particular red fuzzy "thing" that Willow wore in the last scene in the magic box in Dead Things... I can't post pictures yet... but yeah... I am the furthest thing from fashionable! But even I know that some of these outfits are TERRIBLE!

See-through shirt and bra...so classy! In the early episodes I did think that some of Buffy's clothes were a bit much, all the short tops and strappy tops. Maybe its becase i'm from a cold country that to see her dressed like that does not seem right.

Quite a few times I thought...how can she fight in those boots, those heels are not practical!

About that, I've always said that it's a missed opportunity: with big wooden heels, you could stake a vampire by kicking it. It would be so much more practical. I don't see why they never thought of that 😛

I remember watching extra thingies on the Season Three DVDs, and they mentioned that Buffy was a fashion icon and everything she was wearing this season was the top in fashion. And all I could think was, "....what?"
Most of the clothing decisions on this show...gahh. It got slightly better as the season went on, but only slightly.

Heh, remember in OMWF, when Tara is wearing that ridiculous outfit? When she asks why the boys are looking at her, I want to tell her, "Umm, because you're wearing a shiny plastic-looking blue corset with a hideous yellow skirt?" I'd be staring at her, too.
