Unpopular Opinons (non-Buffy) deux!

I couldn't get into Community. It didn't make me laugh one bit. Even though everyone I knew said "you'll love it!".

And I think It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is probably the best sitcom of the past ten years, maybe more, because it broke away from the traditional (aka boring as crap) sitcom formula.

Other shows I can't stand that others seem to love:
How I Met Your Mother
Gilmore Girls
Veronica Mars
New Girl
Family Guy
ER
Shameless
The Crown

Shameless US or UK? US version is fantastic
Am I the only one who never actually met a feminist who hates men, or believes in any of the ridiculous things that people accuse feminism of? I mean, I've seen some crazy feminists online (EVERYTHING is crazy online), but in real life, all the feminists I've met were very nice people. And I consider myself to be a feminist too.

I second this. I consider myself a feminist and all I want that both men and women are equal. I don't hate men; I really don't!

There is this idea that all feminists hate white straight cis men, but this is not true.

I see all this crazy shit online but never met anyone like that in real life.

@Xanderectomy you see men saying horrible things online about women, right? But you don't think those things. Does this mean that all men represent your thinking? You only hear the radical ones, because they are so damn LOUD.

It is the same with feminists and I admit there is a lot of disagreement among feminists what feminism is, but isn't this the same with every single thing? The feminists you see online or hear about in the news are the radical 1%.

The only thing we want to achieve is equality for all, for both men and women.

I know that there are tons of feminists who actually care about women's rights and stuff but personally i've never met one.
I've met a ton of feminists and when i asked them why they became feminists, almost 90% of their answers had something to do with a guy cheating on them and how men are the root cause of all problem in the world.

Wow. Seriously? Uh... I hope they were being sarcastic or something.

I think you guys misunderstood me.
I think feminism is a movement that is definitely needed in the world i mean there are still so many women who are oppressed and genuinely don't have as many rights as men do
but then again how many times do u hear about a feminist who actually helped girls in the east receive education or did something worthwhile compared to the amount of time you'll hear about a feminists trying to get books banned because they're written by someone they dont like or the time when the harass an award winning physicist or the guy who landed a ****ing spacecraft on a comet for very trivial reasons.

I guess what im trying to say is that Feminism is very much needed today just not the way we currently have it.

Why don't you like Himym?
Its possibly my favourite tv show ever.

But the news media does not present an accurate picture of reality.

First of all, the media would almost always publish BAD things, and not good things. A headline like "Feminists help girls get education" won't draw nearly as much attention as a headline like "feminists harass a physicist", and news outlets NEED attention to survive. But the fact that something isn't reported doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. You can rest assured that most feminists don't just spend their days harassing people.

Second of all, every news outlet has an agenda. Some news outlets paint feminism in a more negative light, while others paint feminism in a more positive light. It depends on the people in charge of each news outlet. For example, this website would usually present feminism in a bad light, while this website would usually present feminism in a good light. And that's because both of these websites have an agenda that they're trying to promote. They're both trying to convince you of something.
If you want to get closer to the truth, you need to read/watch as many different news outlets as you can - and take them all with a grain of salt.

This might be the most Unpopular Opinion but
Feminism is the ****ing worst movement ever.
Not because i hate women or think they're anything less than men (they arent) but because its turned into the biggest hate group on planet earth.
Feminism openly hates like half the ****ing population i mean if u are white,straight,male,able-bodied or not into one of the million ****ing 'genders' that exist now then ur a privileged asshole who got everything in life without working hard and u deserve to die.
Feminist openly make bogus claims like one out of every five women get raped?
like rape is a terrible thing and no victim of its should be discouraged to report it but that is insane, that is claiming over 900 million women currently living have been raped and i severely doubt so.

and lets not even get into the ****ing bullshit that is 'white privilege' or 'male privilege or 'manspreading' or any other bullshit things they whine about rather than focusing on actual problems women face.

So worse than the KKK or the Nazis?😉 I have more of a issue with modern feminism than the original movement. A lot of modern feminists create more problems than they solve and block a lot of the progress that has been made, but nitpicking rather focusing on where the important problems are.

So are you saying that the whole 'white privilege' thing isn't a problem? If anything its gotten worse in recent years.

Joss Whedon only made two good shows; Buffy and Angel. Period.

Political protesters who block traffic should be run over. Repeatedly.

The world is NOT a global village. We are NOT all the same. Thank God for that!

I really DO think that illegal immigrants should be deported. As soon as possible.

Brexit is one of the best things that could've happened to the UK. And eventually, most people will realise this.

Well two out of five isn't bad😉 Its debatable how much input he had into some of those shows. I think Dollhouse is a very good show too.

As long as its peaceful political protesting I don't have a problem with it. And the people protesting Trump I fully support. These are exceptional circumstances.

I don't think anyone has said any different.

Brexit can be a good thing as long as our hopeless government get the right deal for us. But at the moment I don't see that happening.

Well so does the Community. Its more surreal and pack full of pop culture references than most sitcoms. I'd say after the first four seasons it wasn't as good, but I do like the Community🙂

New Girl is kinda a return to the old sitcom form, just with a nerdy, hipster vibe to it. I'm not a massive fan either, but can watch it.

My unpopular opinion of the day is that Gary Lineker has gotten totally stale as presenter of Match of the Day and has been coasting for years. The BBC should make the smoother and more cultured Dan Walker his full-time replacement as soon as possible.

Obviously feminism isn't worse than the freaking KKK.
Well im an indian guy whos lived in the united states for about 4 years and except for a couple of incidents,i've never been discriminated against by a white person or for not being white.

Well let me give you an example.
Google feminism right now and see the results that come up.
90% are going to be related to the washington march, which is a march regarding people gathering the streets to protest against Donald Trump.
Now during this March women that were of a pro-life standpoint (believed that every child had the right to live or women who are against abortion) were booted out of the march and why because they had an opposing view to what feminists usually do.

Now this is why i hate alot of feminists.

1) As I said, the media distorts. Google isn't accurate either.

2) When I google feminism, I actually just get various definitions of feminism.

3) If you mean google news, then I get a whole bunch of different stuff. The march on Washington is part of it, but it's hardly the majority. I think that something Madonna said got more hits, actually.

4) I really don't wanna turn this into a debate about abortion.

1) well that is true but various credible sites reported it

2)i meant google news,my bad.

3)oh well uh my google mostly just showed the washington march,i think its different for different countries maybe thats why.

4)Neither do i,i just meant to say that Feminism is a very elitist sort of group where if u dont agree with their opinion then ur automatically misogynist.

I don't think it's funny. I actually think the humour is pretty cringeworthy.

Maybe in the later seasons but Season 1-5 are pretty great
as a person who has watched the entire show like 10 times
i recommend you watch the first season,it may not be ur style but if u like romantic comedy kinda thing you'll absolutely love it.

Finally! Somebody else doesn't think this is wonderfully funny. *hug in solidarity*

With the whole feminism thing you're going to get the whole spectrum of opinions and intensities, but like with a lot of movements (or political persuasions or whatever) the loudest voices are often the most obnoxious.

1) I'm not saying that it's not true (although, that's certainly possible). I'm saying that the news is distorting reality, by talking a lot about certain things, and not talking enough about other things. Did some feminists boot some other feminists from the march? Apparently so. But that's hardly the only thing that happens in feminism right now.

3) Which is another reason why these things should be taken with a grain of salt.

4) That's the thing - SOME feminists are elitist/exclusivist, and many other feminists are not, and yet the news makes you think that MOST feminists are elitist/exclusivist. THAT'S why the news should never be taken at face value.

Agreed. I've not seen Firefly but I tried Agents of Shield and just couldn't get into it. Also basically AoS are introducing mutants into the show but they can't call them mutants because Fox owns the rights to the X-men so they call them "inhumans" instead but they are, for all intents and purposes, mutants. However, they're not the decent known mutants which would've made AoS better. If you're going to introduce mutants, introduce the X-Men rather than cheap rip-offs, otherwise don't introduce mutants at all.

Political protesters who block traffic should be run over. Repeatedly.

Agreed. If protesters want to protest something, do it outside the white house or something. Don't make life difficult for normal working people who just want to go about their day as normal.

Brexit is one of the best things that could've happened to the UK. And eventually, most people will realise this.

Agreed. Europe is trying to employ bully-boy tactics towards Britain because they don't like that we voted out of the EU and they're going to try and make an example out of us to dissuade other countries from leaving the EU.

I like Family Guy.

HIMYM was okay but they completely ruined it in the final season.

Gilmore Girls was okay for the first few seasons but then Rory got annoying.

Never watched New Girl or ER but New Girl looks crap when I've seen some of the promos on E4.

Veronica Mars was fairly decent.

Shameless went on too long in the UK. I've not seen the US version but it's got Jerome from Gotham in it. Has US Shameless been cancelled or something because Jerome is supposedly going back to Gotham?

I've not seen the Crown because I've not got Netflix.

Disagree. I didn't care for Angel, but ♥ Firefly (Serenity less so).

I couldn't get into ASiP. On the other hand I ♥ HIMYM. I liked Veronica Mars first season, but got worse the further along it went.

STOP making films about the Holocaust and slavery. Yes, we get it. Those were terrible times. We don't need more reminders.

Eliza Dushku was entertaining only when she guest-starred on Angel...and in Jay and Silent Bob Stike Back. Otherwise...meh.

Non-smokers have become far too bold. If the smoke bothers you, walk away. Coughing loudly and waving your arms around won't make me put out my cigarette. In fact, I'll probably start chainsmoking just to piss you off more.

you should watch the episode 'butt out' from south park.
you'll defenitely love it.

I have met a handful of man-hating feminists who interpreted feminism as "men vs women" rather than something more about equality, but they were definitely the exception AND they caught flak from other feminists. (And NONE became feminists "because I was cheated on," and with all the feminists AND anti-feminists rants I've heard over the years, this is even the first I've heard of that one being the reason! I get the impression that the man hating kind are more asexual, even the ones who identify as lesbian.)

At least that's feminism offline, I'm not sure what to make of online stuff as that's where people really let their crazy out (or like one said, nitpick over trivial things to the point that actual important stuff is either overlooked, or dealt with in a counterproductive way). But even then they get called on it by other feminists, though I know of at least one (who basically called Joss Whedom a promoter of rape culture through not only Firefly but also Buffy, IIRC--just to be clear here, this wasn't a rational critique of JW works which also exist, this was the kind of unabashed ridiculousness that you'll typically only find on the internet rather than real life) who kept deleting any post criticizing her (especially criticizing her in the name of feminism), unless it was a "you're an evil bitch" type (I presume to show how men hate women so women had better hate men, or maybe men spewing hate at her made her feel validated in her beliefs while feminists instead debating her argument made her insecure).

Online, it seems more popular to hate on feminism. I emphasize "seems" as I don't plunge often into its depths of its madness often and tend to shy away from the ideological crazy (including both the warped feminism and anti-feminism), but it turns up consistently in surprising places, and I've encountered such sentiments far more than the rabid feminist kind even on comic pages, even when it had nothing at all to do with the comic (same for news articles and the like). Like the news, the comics site I visit canceled out all comments because of all the constant political (including lots of hate for feminists while pro-feminist was rare) and religious bile that people couldn't seem to keep themselves from posting. Plenty of times the comments made me want to weep for humanity more than even news of terrorism and the like, because it seemed so pervasive, like it was ordinary for people to think these things secretly whereas the evil people did seemed to be by relatively few (but then again many mistake the few extremists for the entire group which I suppose is the same as equating all feminists with the worst of them). I don't just mean anti-feminism, but all sorts of ideologies (and religion and anti-religion), heck even some identifying as feminist could be disturbing or annoying to me, when it was the kind of craziness that seems all too common online as opposed to when people at least try to fake sanity (as they do when face to face rather than cloaked in anonymity).

Years ago I was invited to join a message board that dealt with a lot of philosophy because the guy who invited me wanted to weigh in on a certain subject. So I did, but experienced weeks of demonizing females (especially feminism, but the hatred was against all females, and I don't see why gender mattered at all) and giving me a hard time no matter how friendly I was (though some, including mods, would tell them to cool it but it would always start back up), and yet had the gall to complain that women didn't like the board or them personally (they really had no idea why this was so? 🙄 ) so I just left. I went back a few weeks later but saw another anti-woman rant (and one I'd seen repeated in one form or another since I got there) so I left again. Six months later I visited one last time and found 3 rants against women or feminism. Now these did get argued so it wasn't like the entire board, but no one EVER (to my knowledge) ever posted a pro-feminism thread, and the hostility was so constant and I just felt unwelcome just for not being born male and have never returned, but those who constantly hated on females honestly don't seem to realize they're the reason why females stay away.

And YouTube has promoted various types of anti-feminism vids to me on multiple occasions, and I'm not even sure why (though I got a bunch once after I looked up game play vids, which I recall because I clicked on a few out of curiosity), but in all my years they have never promoted a pro-feminist vid to me (or if they did then it was so long ago that I don't recall--wait, there is Samantha Bee and Young Turks, but that's more generally liberal that includes feminism, and I'm sure pay to get extra promotion) despite that I know they have them (heck, I used to be subscribed to one feminist channel, but I still get anti-feminist vids promoted to me).

And with notable exceptions (like Joss Whedon's works), it seems most feminists portrayed on TV and movies are the straw feminist kind, and that even includes an episode of Eerie, Indiana I saw as a child (Reality Takes a Holiday in case anyone is curious). I think it's often done as a cheap laugh rather than trying to demonize a movement, but it wouldn't be so pervasive if it was costing them too many viewers, and I've also noticed that many people mistake what they see over and over in the media for reality as well.

Yeah i definitely agree with you.
the only thing is that the few who elitist are important figures who are heralded by stupid publications and given awards for basically man-hating (for eg - lena dunham)

it seems most feminists portrayed on TV and movies are the straw feminist kind
I would disagree with that, atleast in todays tv shows (for eg - parks and recreation, bojack horseman etc) Feminists are treated like the ultimate seekers of truth and the great saviors of humanity with MRA's are treated as women-hating misogynists .

Rather than give examples of what I'm thinking of, I'll just say I haven't seen those shows. Offhand I can only think of one movie that glorified feminism (and it was a low budget independent one), but I'll probably remember more after breakfast. ;)
