"Okay, okay" she pouted, quicker than normal people could have thought about it she leaped forward, with the stake in front of her. This time she hit her target. Dust.
"Ready?" Angel asked, Buffy was already moving.
It wasn't till they had moved out of Hammersmith and over to Restfields Cemetery that they met anymore vampires, three this time: one large over weight male, one over weight female and one normal girl that must have been younger than Buffy by quite a few years. Buffy went round to the left and he circled to the right, they still hadn't been spotted and they had been watching them for five minutes now, he would have been okay to check them out some more, it was rare to have such an opportunity. But Buffy was restless, so he gave in just for the peace. He smiled, she was so funny, so keen to get the job done and then get gone. He came to a headstone and knelt down beside it, noticing that Buffy had done the same he smiled again, great minds think a like, and Buffy did have a great mind, she often but herself down and said her only talents were her slayer ones but Angel knew better and so did Willow and Giles and Buffy's mom too. Buffy's S.A.T scores had been amazing, admittedly he didn't get the system but he knew if Willow thought they were good they would have to be, after all she was the genius of the group... well next to Giles.
The three vampires were bent over a grave. Helping out a new vampire, Angel thought. He saw Buffy make a move out the corner of his eye, she was standing... well crouching and making her way slowly towards them. He knew she knew they would know she was there in just a few seconds, but for Buffy that was okay she had never needed surprise her natural talent was usually enough. He could see the fourth vampire's body now in a few seconds it would be out and hungry. Buffy crept closer. The vampire pulled one leg out of the earth, the others were helping. Buffy pulled two stakes out of her waistband and jacket pocket she twirled one in her hand, she was confidence. The vampire was out, now the others were pleased there was a lot of snarling and gnashing, welcomes he thought. All of a sudden one of them stop; it was the over weight female, she looked around it didn't take her long to find Buffy. Buffy stood up.
"Hi" she said perkily giving them her best smile " I hope I'm not interrupting a heart warming moment. No wait I guess I wouldn't be, would I?" still smiling. Angel stood up too.
"No I don't think we're really interrupting" he didn't smile, good cop, bad cop, he smiled inside.
"I'm sorry honey" she directed her smile at him "And I'm being so rude" still smiling "This is Angel" she stopped smiling abruptly "And I'm Buffy the vampire slayer". That's when the first one lunged, Buffy spun into a vicious roundhouse; knocking her over a back to the grave the newbie had just crawled out of, the obese male charged her; head down, but Angel was faster; he raced forward and tackled the guy, they both went down, Buffy was there in a flash she brought the stake straight down, hard and fast at the ex-mans back, he noted the extra effort as it was always harder to penetrate the heart from the back, but as always she managed it, seconds later he was gone. There was no time to think about it there were still three more left. This time the large female stayed out of the way and let the younger one have a go. This one took more care she circled with Buffy twice and then without warning she whipped out a flip blade, he saw Buffy step back with shock, knifes were not something they usually dealt with, sometimes the occasional sword but he couldn't remember a knife ever. Buffy had to be careful.
The girl lunged, Buffy jumped backward, but she tripped and fell she landed hard, a little winded she tried to push herself up but the girl was still coming. Angel rushed the girl, but he was seconds to late. Buffy who was still winded sucked in air and screamed her hand went to her arm. The girl had slashed her in the upper arm, it was deep and bleeding quite a lot, she took the knife back and slashed again Buffy cried out in pain again; this one wasn't as deep but it was still bleeding as much as the other. Angel grabbed the girl through her off, Buffy stayed on the floor trying to stop the bleeding, Angel was angry, very, very angry, Buffy was hurt and that wasn't something that anybody got away with, Buffy through him her stake, and the girl didn't stand a chance she was dust in ten seconds. He turned scooped Buffy up in his arms. Without thinking twice about he turned and walked towards the library.
It was really quiet in the library when Angel pushed through the door with Buffy in his arm, she had lost a lot of blood but she was still conscious, just.
"Oh god! What's happened?" Giles stood up and rushed towards them "Quickly put her on the table" he worked quickly. He took of her jacket so they could see for the first time just how bad it was, and it was bad; both cuts were deep, but the top one was deepest it was still bleeding. Giles had to look away for a minute and compose himself. It was never said but there was a thing between him and Buffy, Buffy's father lived in L.A, well at least some of the time, and they never had any contact, Giles often found himself thinking of her as more of a daughter than his slayer.
"We were in Restfields, hunting when we came across three vampires, helping another out of its grave. Buffy was fighting this one girl when she pulled out a knife, Buffy tripped, I didn't get there in time to stop her." Angel sound a mixture of scared for Buffy, and angry with himself, the watcher understood. Giles ran into his office to get the first aid kit, which was fuller than the average.
"Quickly we have stop the bleeding, she's lost too much blood, we can't let her become unconscious" Giles looked at Angel his face was dark and he couldn't stand still.
"Maybe we should just take her straight to the hospital!" Angel said, he looked like he was trying not to panic.
"And are you going to try and explain what a seventeen year old girl was doing out this late at night, on a school night, and also why she was getting to fights" Giles snapped. "I'm sorry" he said "But its just going to have to are last resort". Giles reached into the pack took out a thick bandage and a small plastic stone; he put the stone in the long bandage and tied it around the top of her arm to stop the bleeding. They stood still whilst they waited to see if it worked and the bleeding would stop. It did. Giles let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. Buffy was becoming more with it.
"Hey guys" she smiled faintly, she turned to Giles "You should have seen the other girl" Giles smiled
"Are you feeling better?" he asked
"A little dizzy headed but I'll live" her smile was fuller than before. That was good. She sat up on her own, after glaring at Angel who had started to help her "I can do it, its not like my arm came off is it" but she kept smiling
"I still have to bandage it properly. So sit still." He said gently and smiled, he was so relieved. Buffy was playing it down but she had a serious injury, centimetres more one side or the other and she would have severed a major artery and then they would have been in so much trouble. As it was he didn't know how they were going to explain this to her mother.
"Oh no! What's mom gonna say?" Buffy cried out suddenly, Giles smiled.
"I think the hole truth may not be the best idea," he said
"No, probably not. If I ever want to leave the house again" her smile faded right out and she pouted "Ouch. Giles!" He was putting an antiseptic on and stung.
"Sorry, its just we don't know how many other people... or animals she stabbed with that knife before tonight" going all the way to grim
"Ich!" was all Buffy said to that.
He finished cleaning it then he put on a gauze bandage, wrapping in around and around her arm. When he was finished she stood up, pushed some hair from her face with her good arm, then she turned to Angel.
"Walk me home?" she smiled sheepishly. They turned and walked out, Angel keeping her up with an arm around her. Giles smiled again, that's how it was here a whirlwind of activity then nothing. Buffy would be completely healed by the end of the week and there would be no mark at all in a fortnight, for now she would be sore for a few days.
The Bronze was packed to the rafters, so to speak. To get a table Cordy had had to glare a geek from the year below for a minute till he gave up his, Xander almost wished he hadn't come Cordy had talked him into a shopping trip to get some more respectful clothes, she had tried itbefore "“ more than once "“ but it didn't work, he like his baggy look. Cordy didn't like baggy. She always wore something tight; tonight she wore a small black dress with little red straps and trim. He liked it.
"This band sucks! Why did I let you talk me into coming here" she whined
