Vampire shows since Buffy and Angel

What do you think of shows that came after B/A ,i.e
True Blood, Twilight,etc.? And could Buffy cut it against these
pretenders to her throne? As programs get more graphic,and
in my eyes tasteless,or is it just progression?::bbat::
 
Twilight is to me the most horrible thing ever created by humans. True Blood is an AMAZING show but I cannot say I like it better or less than Buffy cause you can't really compare the shows.
 
I have to say I'm not a fan of Twilight but I am a new fan of True Blood but have only just started watching it. I don't think you can compare the shows/films as they are very different. And i'll always be a fan of BTVS and Angel 🙂

I am also one of the people that doesn't feel to loving about Twilight, and I can't say I've seen Tru Blood.

I loved Moonlight when I first saw it, but after watching Angel through I just found to many similarities, some episodes seemed to be directly lifted from Angel.

Nothing will ever come close to achieving what Buffy, and to a lesser extent, Angel did for the modern day vampire tale.

First, pretty sure you're on the wrong track.

Twilight is a contender for Buffy in that it has the focus squarely on the teenage puppy-love angle. Blade was working on the superhero angle of Buffy for awhile, but fell short.

True Blood is contending with the more traditional vampire tales like Dracula and Anne Rice's Lestat, which have as much to do with Buffy as Vampire in Brooklyn does.

I think the point is there all vampire shows therefore theres always gonna be a comparison whether there supposed to be contending with traditional stuff or BuffY directly

So, Buffy is the center of the vampire universe against which all must be measured because vampires obviously never were popular before Buffy.
How could I have missed that bit of information?

Ditto on caitaintdead's comment. Natasha isn't saying that it IS the center, but that it is often percieved as the forefront of pop culture vampire...ology?

Who said Buffy is centre of the vampire universe?? They were popular before, yes but its been brought to more peoples attention as Buffy was a very popular show therefore why people do the compare thing!
 
Vampires were very popular before buffy,and will continue to be so.
Look how far we have come since the days of hammerhorror.

I love Twilight, the books expecially... i've never seen true blood but in my opinion Buffy is still at the top of the list and i'm sure she could still kick all of their Undead Butts 😀
 
well Twilight is only a movie (well to me) so if I compare it to BTVS movie in 92, i'd say it kicks Buffy's stylish yet affordable shoes. I enjoyed it anyway, but comparing it with the show isn't really fair, its a movie no.1 so it doesn't get very long to explain itself, and its marketed at young girls not the wider audience that Buffy was aimed at. Having said that, Buffy succeeded at gaining that much tougher wide audience so its fairly obvious its better than Twilight, in my opinion as well as others. Twilight just found its niche.

TruBlood is a little more comparable, but not by much. TB's great, its the closest thing to a S8 of Buffy really.... Everyone knows about vamps, vamps trying to 'get along', except for a fair few. I think TB's darkness, and the more sex-fuelled themes would have been interesting (though completely out of place to be fair) in Buffy. But yea, you cant really compare the two. Buffy will always be the original for me so it holds onto its throne.

That's a really good point, the Twilight movie really is better than the Buffy movie. I'd never thought of it that way.
Twilight...yeah. I won't go into it, but in a nutshell, it's total crap. Still, it doesn't really count, since it's a book series and a movie instead of a TV show.

As for other vampire shows since Buffy and Angel, the only ones I've really watched are Moonlight and True Blood. Moonlight was alright, but it was far from being anything special. The acting, dialogue, etc. were all pretty mediocre (and, at times, downright sub-par) and a lot of the storylines were blatantly ripped off of Angel. True Blood is pretty good and it's one of my favorite shows airing right now, but still, it's definitely not comparable to Buffy or Angel. It's pretty good, don't get me wrong, but it's not intelligent or artistic or anything like that...it's trashy fun.
 
I am muchly in love with Twilight..(only 117 days to go till New moon! 😀)
I dont think I would enjoy the movie if I hadn't have read all the books though. You really need to read all the books to bring the movies to life. It's hard to get used to tho, after being involved with Buffy and Angel for so long (why cant Spike just sparkle in the sun, instead of catching on flames :: vampire )

I haven't heard of true blood tho, I'll have to check that one out 😛
 
I've said it before, and I'll probably say it again, but I like Twilight vampires. (They're probably the only thing I actually like about Twilight, now I come to think of it, but since they take up a significant part of the story that's fine by me.) I like them better than Joss' vampires. They're more consistent. But Twilight was never meant to stand up against Buffy. The books are a fun, fluffy read, and the movie is as close an interpretation of the books as ever I've seen. It doesn't seek to do new things with the medium. It doesn't even seek to do new things with the vampire lore. It exists to tell the story of the book on the screen. And that's ok: if you like the books then you'll have fun with the film. But Buffy was never about any of that stuff. Buffy's core premise was to invert expectations, to have a character based drama with vampires. Twilight's is to play to expectations, to have a vampire based drama with characters.

Valuing one kind of entertainment above the other is silly - if I want fluff I'm not going to watch Season 6 of Buffy, am I? Of course, it's fine to say that you prefer Buffy to Twilight etc., but they are very different beasts.
 
For me, nothing can compare to BTVS. But I do have a curiousity about all vampire shows/movies so I ill automatically be drawn to them.
